Next season v3
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Holland loves his veteran goalies, I don't see him being comfortable with a Husso / Skinner tandem.
And is Husso worth that contract anyhow? He's had less success at the NHL level than Driedger, and that's already not looking like a good investment by Seattle.
Husso had one great stretch up to February 14 where he posted .941 in 15 starts, and that's about it. He was .906 after that in 23 starts and .890 in the playoffs this year. Consider he was .893 last year too.
He's a backup who will occasionally string together a few strong games. I don't see any value in giving him a 4 year deal.</div></div>
You also gotta consider that teams overpay in Free Agency a lot. Also I think Husso is the best player that will actually be available. Kuemper likely stays with the Avs. Fleury is only considering Pittsburgh and Minnesota. After that, its only Jack Campbell and Ville Husso, and I'm assuming Husso is going to be the cheaper of the two. We can compromise on $$$ and give him term. I think between Husso and Skinner you have 2 chances to have a starting goaltender emerge. The only other option would be to make a trade for a goalie, which i can explore in my next post. But in terms of the Driedger comparison, I think that he went from one of the best teams in the league (Florida) to an expansion team (Seattle), hence the decline. St. Louis to Edmonton would likely be a lateral move for Husso.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlackwoodForVezina</b></div><div>both teams reject</div></div>
Arizona wanted a young 1st round quality player (Yamamoto), a 1st round pick, and a high-end prospect (Konovalov). I think we paid that price so it would be an acceptable offer. Swap out Konovalov for Bourgault if it floats your boat. The other I can see Seattle rejecting, but its moreso a conversation starter than a legit trade.

Oilers Potential Roster With Rumours After Expansion Draft
I dont think I like any of the trades you made. Turris and Koskinen need untradeable, but if the other teams would do this then sure. I think Stalock and Kassian for Jarry is better than giving both up for basically nothing. I would rather we hold onto Archibald and Lagesson then trade them for a comparable player and scraps.
Ullmark contract is too expensive. He's like 3.5 mil at best. I like the Savard signing and i think the Hyman + Granlund signings are okay. I think Marody is assumed to already be gone, so maybe use more cap space on two more wingers and put Holloway in the minors.

You can replace Skinner with a 2nd round pick if you want. ARI needs to trade Kuemper or they lose him for free in expansion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrewishTV</b></div><div>I don't understand why Smith is being signed to a 3 year deal. That would take him to 42 which is kind of nutty. That 100% isn't enough for OEL, it'd take at least a 1st in addition with retained salary.</div></div>
100% a misclick there from me, Smith would only get one year at that cap hit.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Detailed explanation and some interesting ideas. I don’t think you have enough for OEL personally I don’t think he’s a good move for the Oilers but he’s still a top 4 defenseman vs neal who’s been a healthy scratch and a bottom 6 forward when in and lagesson who is probably just a third pairing defenseman. I also think you need to add to get Patrick, feel like Philly sends him to ANH for Manson or CLB in a Jones package. Also no way we get Landeskog. That being said I enjoyed the read and the perspective, and could be some ideas</div></div>
The problem is that OEL has 0 value based on his season last year, and teams know that going into negotiations. In order to get rid of him, they are gonna have to take on a bad contract. I think Neal would be the contract they take, as their Goaltending is already locked up. Their only payoff would be Lagesson as someone that could play in OEL's place on the bottom pair, and has upside to improve (not much but its there, hes young). Maybe you can add a 4th - 7th round pick in there, but I doubt the Oilers give up anything more in value.
For the Philly deal, the difference is that one has a contract and the other does not. I think Patrick is probably the better player, but he doesn't have a contract. Overall it should be an even 1 for 1 at this point. Though i agree that Philly can use him in a different deal for sure. Also I agree that Landeskog most likely is not coming to Edmonton, but I had the cap space in this mock to get him, so here's hoping!

Next Year - All in
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bringer_Of_Snow</b></div><div>I like the contracts for the most part.
Larsson is an egregious overpayment. For what he provides, he is not a $5M dman, let alone the fact that the cap is flat. Rumors are his deal is in teh $3.5-3.75M range. Anything over $4 is not great value for the Oilers.
But thats not enough for Kuemper. Im not even a huge fan of his, but a KHL-lifer, a young dman we are going to lose to expansion, and a 3rd string-waiver goalie isn't enough to get him.
Where is McLeod? He has proven that he is a regular. By no means should he be gifted a spot, but theres a 99% chance he is either our 3C or 4C, or 3rd line winger.
Gotta upgrade Russell there. He was resigned for the purpose of exposing to Seattle. I would hope he is no longer in the lineup.</div></div>
Larsson I heard he was getting 4.5-5. Even if he gets 5 this roster can still be made. Cap isn't really the issue in this mock, you can send his extra mill over to the collective pool of Martinez, Hoffman, Coleman.
Kuemper i think that the KHLer can be any forward prospect to make it even. I think it can be any throwaway pick. Jones i already stated we were not losing to the expansion draft, as i have Neal being taken. I think Stalock is actually a worthwhile asset. I think he played very well on other teams as a starter, and he's cheap for a team that SHOULD be heading into a rebuild. He has some good value imo.
McLeod i thought about having as the 3C but ultimately I don't feel he played well enough to get a spot. Unfortunately I think the RW spot is pretty locked up, and I dont think you are playing him as a 4C. I guess you can have him play LW on the 3rd line instead of Benson? I feel like Benson is due for a shot sometime soon, or else he should be traded while he still has value.
I think Russell is still very good. I think he was one of our best defenseman in the playoffs. Russell at 4 mil? no way. Russell at 1.25? I'll take it for sure! As a 5-6 that blocks the most shots in the league and is pretty defensively sound, I don't think you are gonna find much better.

It's not home to him and I doubt he feels loyalty to Edmonton and also they are really contenders. He could easily go to Boston, Colorado, etc and get more money on a one year deal with more of a shot to win</div></div>
Money is not the deciding factor for Hall here. He wants to win, and as long as the contract is in that range he'll consider it. Really think he's using this year and next to pad stats and potentially go far in the playoffs. Playing on the Oilers cannot be considered a bad idea at this time.

The only thing I’d like to add is I don’t see Benning as a 100% must go, I’d say he’d be good to keep around if Larsson is traded, and even more so if Russel is as well. Otherwise is leaves a gaping hole on that right flank</div></div>
I think that he has to go mainly because I don't see him as a top 4 option, and Bouchard should be playing on the bottom pair. If Larsson goes, I'm assuming someone like Barrie, Pietrangelo, Demelo, etc. is coming in for the 2nd pair. There's a lot of major picks for that spot on the market that would be better than Benning being there, and I think he would go a long way in acquiring a 3rd line center or Goalie.

Massive Winnipeg and Toronto Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>Both trades are brutal to the d causing a very unneeded turn over after a successful season. Team doesn’t need laine at that cost as good as he is removing enough from the team to make it more damaging than good. Johnsson in a top six role doesn’t help us anymore than throwing Neal there. Why is every leaf fan wanting to move Andersen? Same reasons we shouldn’t have anything to do with him. That blue line makes me think lottery is unavoidable next year and extremely hopeful that first pissed away to the Jets is lottery protected.</div></div>
Jones at the very least is ready for top 6 minutes. Klefbom -> Barrie is a sidegrade in my eyes. Johnsson provides the same element that Nuge does on that line and doesn't have anchors for skates like Neal haha. Andersen is a starting goalie that will get you into the playoffs. He might choke under pressure, but then you just throw Koskinen in.
This defense to me cannot be much worse than what we had this year, gives room for younger players to play, and the ones we gave up net us a starting goaltender, a 3rd line right handed center that's young, and a winger for McDavid for years to come.

Massive Winnipeg and Toronto Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trevor31lv</b></div><div>Good lord, did you ever do a job here
I'm fairly new to these, but this is absolutely one of the best ACGMs I've seen. You explained all the moves made terrifically and I think you did a great job both value wise and filling needs of the trade partners you picked. This team could seriously compete.
This team could seriously compete. The top lines are excellent, I don't think the defense really suffers from last year, and you made a significant goaltending upgrade.
They'd definitely have some issues resigning guys next offseason, but for the 1 year this would all be together, they'd be serious contenders.....and this is coming from a guy who has been super low on Edmonton.</div></div>
Thanks so much! Yeah the 21-22 season is rough due to Seattle coming in as well. My guess is they protect McDavid, Draisaitl, Laine, Roslovic, Yamamoto, Puljujarvi, Johnsson for forwards and Bear, Nurse, Jones for defense. Bouchard can't get taken due to not playing enough. So you probably lose Barrie / Gustafsson in the draft, but hopefully Broberg can make the lineup by then. Assuming we lose Gustafsson and don't resign Khaira, we'd have about 5 mil to spend paying Laine and giving a bridge deal to Puljujarvi and Yamamoto. Benson and Haas make prolly around the same, so its probably doable.

A 60 point second line center, a top 4 defenseman that helped quarterback the best power play in the league, and a first round pick is not enough for a 60 point winger with cold flashes? Laine has the ABILITY to score 50 and is still young, but the reality is that he only averages slightly more points than RNH the last three years. You get back a Center that you desperately covet, with Klefbom and a first to make up for the age gap.

I think you could throw Puljujarvi and a 2nd/3rd rounder in the deal and you prolly get Jarry or Murray. AA could play all three forward roles. Also i didnt mean to sign and trade AA, I just gave him what I thought he'd be valued at, then decided to trade him afterwards.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kadooodle</b></div><div>3 things
1. Tristan Jarry is better than what AA is valued at, he is worth at least a 1st round pick and goaltender prospect.
2. If you're going to spend 7 million on a winger, don't spend it on Hall because of his drop in production in recent years and the fact that he's getting older. Rather spend that money on someone else.
3. If you don't have at least 1 million in cap space, you're most likely going to end up depending on this lineup throughout the entire season. You need some breathing room in order to make moves just in case you need to upgrade or fill in on injured players. If you dont have enough to spend in the season, you're going to end up in cap hell during the season.</div></div>
Answered the 1st point above. 2nd point id say that im a bit biased for Hall due to his time in EDM, though I can see the point youre making. However I also think the Oilers problems lie on the LW, and the other winger options (Hoffman, Dadonov) are RW. As for the 3rd point, I have 3 players on the bench, so there should be enough room to call players up if you put players on the IR.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ragsandbluesfan</b></div><div>bouchard isn't making the team?</div></div>
Bouchard probably ends up making the team in the middle of the season due to injuries, however I think they start him in Bakersfield. They played Broberg over him in the exhibition game, and Broberg is already signed to play overseas next season. I think the following season (with Larsson needing a new deal / leaving to expansion) is the season for him to start getting some time.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>As for consistent efforts russell Neal and chaisson deserve your be in the top 5 of the team. They all had a very good series. I don’t know how can consider moving russell after seeing the d struggle so much against Chicago. I’d look to move on from nurse before russell. Doesn’t defend as well as russell takes more foolish penalties and plays a more high risk game with very little offence to show for it. Neal I can’t see justifying a buy out he’s still a good player the term on that dead space isn’t going to help could easy retain a slight bit and collect an asset for him. I really liked chaisson this series I thought he was buzzing the entire series excellent example to be setting.</div></div>
Russell isnt getting moved because I don't like him and how he plays. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of the work that he does on that blue line and the amount of blocked shots he takes is unreal. However with the cap situation remaining flat, a 3rd pair guy cant be making 4 mil. Id much rather see that 4 mil be spent on a top6 winger to play with McDavid, and I think that Caleb Jones has proven himself to be a top6 d-man. I think Nurse provides more for the team than Russell, though i can see Nurse being moved out in a few years as well, just not now. Neal had to be a buyout because I dont think teams would take him in a trade. Chiasson, like i said earlier, is the odd man out due to him being on a 1 year deal. Id much rather move Kassian but it seems highly unlikely due to him just receiving a new deal.
