<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrewishTV</b></div><div>I don't understand why Smith is being signed to a 3 year deal. That would take him to 42 which is kind of nutty. That 100% isn't enough for OEL, it'd take at least a 1st in addition with retained salary.</div></div>

100% a misclick there from me, Smith would only get one year at that cap hit.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilnate</b></div><div>Detailed explanation and some interesting ideas. I don’t think you have enough for OEL personally I don’t think he’s a good move for the Oilers but he’s still a top 4 defenseman vs neal who’s been a healthy scratch and a bottom 6 forward when in and lagesson who is probably just a third pairing defenseman. I also think you need to add to get Patrick, feel like Philly sends him to ANH for Manson or CLB in a Jones package. Also no way we get Landeskog. That being said I enjoyed the read and the perspective, and could be some ideas</div></div>

The problem is that OEL has 0 value based on his season last year, and teams know that going into negotiations. In order to get rid of him, they are gonna have to take on a bad contract. I think Neal would be the contract they take, as their Goaltending is already locked up. Their only payoff would be Lagesson as someone that could play in OEL's place on the bottom pair, and has upside to improve (not much but its there, hes young). Maybe you can add a 4th - 7th round pick in there, but I doubt the Oilers give up anything more in value.

For the Philly deal, the difference is that one has a contract and the other does not. I think Patrick is probably the better player, but he doesn't have a contract. Overall it should be an even 1 for 1 at this point. Though i agree that Philly can use him in a different deal for sure. Also I agree that Landeskog most likely is not coming to Edmonton, but I had the cap space in this mock to get him, so here's hoping!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bringer_Of_Snow</b></div><div>I like the contracts for the most part.

Larsson is an egregious overpayment. For what he provides, he is not a $5M dman, let alone the fact that the cap is flat. Rumors are his deal is in teh $3.5-3.75M range. Anything over $4 is not great value for the Oilers.

But thats not enough for Kuemper. Im not even a huge fan of his, but a KHL-lifer, a young dman we are going to lose to expansion, and a 3rd string-waiver goalie isn't enough to get him.

Where is McLeod? He has proven that he is a regular. By no means should he be gifted a spot, but theres a 99% chance he is either our 3C or 4C, or 3rd line winger.

Gotta upgrade Russell there. He was resigned for the purpose of exposing to Seattle. I would hope he is no longer in the lineup.</div></div>

Larsson I heard he was getting 4.5-5. Even if he gets 5 this roster can still be made. Cap isn't really the issue in this mock, you can send his extra mill over to the collective pool of Martinez, Hoffman, Coleman.

Kuemper i think that the KHLer can be any forward prospect to make it even. I think it can be any throwaway pick. Jones i already stated we were not losing to the expansion draft, as i have Neal being taken. I think Stalock is actually a worthwhile asset. I think he played very well on other teams as a starter, and he's cheap for a team that SHOULD be heading into a rebuild. He has some good value imo.

McLeod i thought about having as the 3C but ultimately I don't feel he played well enough to get a spot. Unfortunately I think the RW spot is pretty locked up, and I dont think you are playing him as a 4C. I guess you can have him play LW on the 3rd line instead of Benson? I feel like Benson is due for a shot sometime soon, or else he should be traded while he still has value.

I think Russell is still very good. I think he was one of our best defenseman in the playoffs. Russell at 4 mil? no way. Russell at 1.25? I'll take it for sure! As a 5-6 that blocks the most shots in the league and is pretty defensively sound, I don't think you are gonna find much better.

Sujet: Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chigurrhh</b></div><div>Murray is the goalie the Penguins want to trade. Jarry is better, a year younger (a year further from UFA), and will be cheaper to re-sign. LW is also not a need.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oilfan1717</b></div><div>Lots to like here. My only criticism is that Jarry is unlikely to be signed at that pricepoint, and it’ll probably cost more than AA to acquire him.</div></div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>Sign and trades don't happen, and the Pens have no interest in the empty jersey Athanasiou.</div></div>

I think you could throw Puljujarvi and a 2nd/3rd rounder in the deal and you prolly get Jarry or Murray. AA could play all three forward roles. Also i didnt mean to sign and trade AA, I just gave him what I thought he'd be valued at, then decided to trade him afterwards.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kadooodle</b></div><div>3 things
1. Tristan Jarry is better than what AA is valued at, he is worth at least a 1st round pick and goaltender prospect.
2. If you're going to spend 7 million on a winger, don't spend it on Hall because of his drop in production in recent years and the fact that he's getting older. Rather spend that money on someone else.
3. If you don't have at least 1 million in cap space, you're most likely going to end up depending on this lineup throughout the entire season. You need some breathing room in order to make moves just in case you need to upgrade or fill in on injured players. If you dont have enough to spend in the season, you're going to end up in cap hell during the season.</div></div>

Answered the 1st point above. 2nd point id say that im a bit biased for Hall due to his time in EDM, though I can see the point youre making. However I also think the Oilers problems lie on the LW, and the other winger options (Hoffman, Dadonov) are RW. As for the 3rd point, I have 3 players on the bench, so there should be enough room to call players up if you put players on the IR.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ragsandbluesfan</b></div><div>bouchard isn't making the team?</div></div>

Bouchard probably ends up making the team in the middle of the season due to injuries, however I think they start him in Bakersfield. They played Broberg over him in the exhibition game, and Broberg is already signed to play overseas next season. I think the following season (with Larsson needing a new deal / leaving to expansion) is the season for him to start getting some time.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>As for consistent efforts russell Neal and chaisson deserve your be in the top 5 of the team. They all had a very good series. I don’t know how can consider moving russell after seeing the d struggle so much against Chicago. I’d look to move on from nurse before russell. Doesn’t defend as well as russell takes more foolish penalties and plays a more high risk game with very little offence to show for it. Neal I can’t see justifying a buy out he’s still a good player the term on that dead space isn’t going to help could easy retain a slight bit and collect an asset for him. I really liked chaisson this series I thought he was buzzing the entire series excellent example to be setting.</div></div>

Russell isnt getting moved because I don't like him and how he plays. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of the work that he does on that blue line and the amount of blocked shots he takes is unreal. However with the cap situation remaining flat, a 3rd pair guy cant be making 4 mil. Id much rather see that 4 mil be spent on a top6 winger to play with McDavid, and I think that Caleb Jones has proven himself to be a top6 d-man. I think Nurse provides more for the team than Russell, though i can see Nurse being moved out in a few years as well, just not now. Neal had to be a buyout because I dont think teams would take him in a trade. Chiasson, like i said earlier, is the odd man out due to him being on a 1 year deal. Id much rather move Kassian but it seems highly unlikely due to him just receiving a new deal.
