Vancouver Canucks signed Elias Pettersson (8 Years / $11,600,000 AAV)
This is an excellent signing for the Canucks. Pettersson is the face of the franchise, and seeing him buy in for the next 8 years is super exciting. 11.6m is the perfect price for Petey, I am so excited to see this team in the coming years. Such a bright future in Vancouver, and they can now just focus on what lies ahead now that there is some certainty with their core.
Curious to see if the Canucks will be more trigger happy at the TDL now, obviously they already went out and got Lindholm, but now they know their budget for next year. This extension couldn't have come at a better time. So happy for Vancouver and the third Sedin brother

No one in the entire league has RHP OVERrated... all he's doing, since the first time he stepped on NHL ice, is exceed expectations.
He's a 7th round pick... plays with incredible energy and hocey IQ; but he's a 7th round pick. Does NOT have huge talent and no one in the league is seeing him as a saviour or star.
If we're talking 'RHP overrated', my question is: who in the world - even Habs fans - is OVER rating him? No one.

These fans are delusional to think that Pageau is enough when literally every insider including Lebrun and Seravalli are reporting that the ask is massive for Anderson and teams are offering up to the ask. Its like they believe feelings over facts. Cringe.
Its a bidding war. Hughes is smart he will wait it out til the draft just like the TDL with Kulak and Lehkonen

You sound like you might as well be his agent.
Bergevin isn’t Dubas. If the player overreaches, he’ll just let him walk. Jake Evans is already at least 3/4 of the way to becoming Danault. Might even end up being better offensively when it’s all said and done. Also, a player like Nick Bonino would be able to replace most of what Danault would do the next 2 years at a fraction of the cost.
$3.5mm is the right number for Danault on this team. It’s up to him to decide whether or not he wants to be here.

Laine trade to habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bunzy1034</b></div><div>Really? I don’t think so? That’s basically equivalent to the four first round package.</div></div>
Yes really.
Romanov is a nice prospect by the sounds of it but he's still just that, a prospect and an unproven one at that. The 1st is good but is likely a 15-20th overall pick so at least a season or two away and a 3rd is a 3rd.
Joel Teasdale is an undrafted prospect from the Qmjhl
that has yet to play a single pro game so he's with all due respect almost worthless, how much time did Yanni Gourde spend in the AHL before he amounted to anything? 3-4 and there's nothing to say Teasdale wouldn't need the same.
Sorry dude, this trade is just bad.
If you're trading Laine there better be at least one good piece that's playing in the lineup immediately, this trade as shown here has the potential to be like so many Laine trade ideas I've seen, Joe Thorton 2.0 trades. I don't care that Laine had a bit of a down year, goals win games and Laine scores goals! If you want my goal scorer you better be giving me something good, not hope and potential which is all Romanov, a 1st, 3rd and Teasdale are at this point, hope and potential.

We have everything to gain, and nothing to lose.
They match? We lose nothing...
They don't? We win big.
Well... they were offering him 6M... so I'm not sure it is a number they liked..

Carolina Hurricanes signed Sebastian Aho (5 Years / $8,460,250 AAV)
I think I understand the strategy from this “low ball” offer sheet. Lots of factors at play. One of the first things I was questioning was “why not give an extra $100k on the AAV and make the compensation 2 1st’s + 2nd + 3rd?” Literally no one will question that it would be overpaying for some like Aho, and it would make all the more enticing to let Aho go. So why just under $8.5mil???
This is just MTL <strong>literally</strong> trying to take advantage of <strong>what they believe </strong> is an Owner (Dundon) who doesn’t have the stones to pay 1 player a large chunk of the teams revenue of an entire year. Because if CAR matches this deal, this almost guarantees for the next two seasons they will lose $$$ and finish in the negative of their yearly earnings. <strong>Additionally</strong> , with a lockout looming, and the possibility of getting zero revenue next year. CAR will still have to pay almost $10mil, to 1 player. That’s big.
So if the Habs believe that actual “up front “ cash is enough to steal Aho from CAR (and I’m assuming that this is really their current belief, cuz why even bother then?), why give an extra 1st?
Historically speaking though... PHI tried this exact strategy on NSH with the Weber offer sheet, and it didn’t work.

The Canadiens still have over 4 mil after he would accept plus 10% in buffer room in the summer to adjust the cap hit before oct 6 (i believe) That is nore than enough room to sign a player or 2. Carolina can match the cap hit. But cannot match the signing bonus. The gm for montreal does have morals. This is a business and if theres an opportunity to get someone of that caliber. Then there is simply no wrong doing in it. Where would you think Aho rather be? With a bunch of people that dont have established names yet? or a team that has WELL established players and a bunch of fin's that will back him up and go play with in the national teams. Great offer Montreal, I hope we get him. Now sign a defenseman ?

it's not about capspace, it's about real money. Carolina barely made 23M from tickets sales, wich is 3M less than the year befor... Dundon is also in a 70M lawsuit right now.. the habs took adventage of a weakened owner

Canucks fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BlueSeeker</b></div><div>Juolevi has better numbers in the AHL than Juulsen. Juolevi hasn't even played a full season in the AHL/NHL yet. His ceiling is also a lot higher than Juulsen.</div></div>
AHL production, especially for defenders, doesn't frequently translate to NHL play, especially when the majority of it comes in the form of assists.
Consider this: Juulsen has played actual NHL games. 44 to be specific. The expectation is, currently, that he'll be seeing a full 82 games next season as his eye injury appears to be behind him now. Does the current 44 games plus 82 projected games bring more value than zero NHL games plus a projected 70 more in the AHL next season?
Consider that, despite the lack of production, Juulsen has developed into an NHL defender. Juolevi's production has been almost as stagnant (except for last year's injury-shortened campaign) but at lesser levels. Ceilings aside, you need to put more stock into the current value. If Juolevi is worth Evans and the CBJ 2nd Round Pick, don't give up Juulsen and Peca in the deal. If the Canucks' ask starts with Juulsen, they pay more, not less. Paying for what you think a player will be has cost certain NHL GMs their jobs for decades: it's a matter of getting good value.
Also, why piss assets away when you can have a better LD than Juolevi with the 15th Pick in this years' draft? All of Harley, York, Heinola, and even Broberg are likely to develop into more than Juolevi.

That's a big no from my standpoint. Brodie is the only guy Habs would be actively going after from that bunch. Im still not convinced Foo is even a prospect anymore. In any case doesn't entice me in the slightest. Sheary, if really wanted could probably be had for a couple mid picks. I know Habs fans on here are on Drouin rear now but he is by no means a easy trade target. He was lights out for 75% of the season but people dwell only on the other 25%. Just to put things into perspective, Spencer Foo is a year older than Drouin.......

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>math731</b></div><div>I think it's worth it. Nurse is the perfect guy to play alongside Weber and Kakko is a Rantanen type of player. Suzuki is great, Primeau is really great and Tatar is playing great too. The thing is, I don't think Tatar will have another great season such as this one and Price will still be dominant in 4-5-6 years. Suzuki is really talented but seems a bit slow. He thinks the game fast though. Also, MTL already have a lot of small wingers</div></div>
The longer into the future we go, the less and less of a factor size is. The Lucic contract is pure poison and Tatar has proven that he is a legitimate top 6 forward. Suzuki is one of the better prospects in the game and Primeau is also one of the better goaltender prospects. Nurse would be a very good 2LHD, but I just don't see the value in this trade.
