<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMtommyhawk</b></div><div>Yeah that definitely makes sense, I’d rather have Guttman getting bigger minutes as a 2C over resigning Domi. Plus it’s probably a lot more entertaining to have Reichel and Bedard feeding passes to each other.
I don’t think we have to worry about them improving their standings that much though. I mean the Oilers finished 29th in the season after they drafted McDavid. That team had Hall, Draisatl, Eberle, and RNH to go along with him.</div></div>
True. But if we were to add Killorn AND Domi or players of their caliber, and rolling 3 fairly skilled lines under Richardson, they could probably do a lot better than most people would think. I'm not worried about making the playoffs. But, I am worried about slipping out of the top 5, or, god forbid, the top 10 next year. haha. There are still a lot of great players next year too. But the caliber and depth is looking to be significantly lower at every tier.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMtommyhawk</b></div><div>I like these moves a lot, although I would like to keep Kurashev and resign Domi. That Reichel-Domi-Kurashev line only got three games together last season, but they looked pretty good at generating offense. Although if the Hawks can get a second pick in the top ten and get their hands on Ryan Leonard that’s a slam dunk.</div></div>
Yeah. I've thought about that a lot too. But, with Bedard likely coming straight into the NHL and likely being utilized as a center, I'd rather not push Guttman (as well as Raddysh and Johnson) down the lineup. Because if you bring back Domi and want to roll that line, what do you end up with? A top 9 like this, maybe...
Someone - Bedard - Someone
Reichel - Domi - Kurashev
Johnson - Guttman - Raddysh
Idk... I guess KD will just give Richardson the bodies and let the coaching staff figure all of that out, anyway. But, I find it hard to strike that balance between creating competition to make the roster and being loose and not blocking opportunities for young players and prospects. I also worry that this would be too good of a lineup for the rebuild, thus lowering the quality of our draft capital.
Do you then start Bedard on the 3rd line and shelter him a bit while he acclimates? I don't know if that is possible. Like most people, I think he is going to step right in and be a threat and start the season on the top line.

Crazy idea
That's not close for Keller. I'm thinking it's at least two 1st's and at least one high end prospect (Reichel, Nazar or Kirchinski type prospects) and then maybe a guy like TRad to fill the lineup hole. Acquiring him is going to "hurt" whatever team that is.

I get the premise and I'm a big fan of Michkov, but that's a really potentially steep price to pay for a guy you're not getting for 3 years. We don't know how good the 2024 class really is yet, they still have another season to play.

Chicago is not in position to do that. Even with Bedard, this team is still 3-4 years away from contending. Can’t give up picks this early in the rebuild.

I will not "be better." Reminding people of what happened IS being better. The league swept this under the rug so fast it is sick. Don't forget, the Hawks knew of Aldrich's despicable acts, and wrote him a letter of recommendation.
The Hawks should have been punished far worse. If th LA Clippers owner can be forced to sell the team for saying racist things, the Hawks ownership should have been forced to sell for supporting a rapist.</div></div>
The way the league handled it can be criticized for sure, but that’s not what you are doing. You are bringing up someone else’s trauma when it is convenient for a quick rise from a group of people who are equally disgusted with what happened. The people who held the most responsibility have been punished, the franchise was able to reach settlements with the affected parties and while that does not excuse the actions that took place there should eventually come a point when healing can start to take place. Don’t misunderstand what I say, healing doesn’t involve the mindless forgetting of what caused harm, but it also doesn’t include tactlessness in reexamining the wound.
You can consider what you would do if it had been the redwings involved in this scandal, but it’s a pointless exercise because it wasn’t them. Instead I challenge you to look beyond the names and places and see that this atrocity was allowed to take place due to an overarching toxic hockey culture.

"value" is probably fine if you're going off of the athletic's pick value chart or whatever, but it makes zero sense for the caps to trade back from their highest pick in a decade

This is a bad trade for the caps. That is a significant drop in the draft. The quality of player you can draft at 8 is so much higher than 19. No reason to do this trade.

Pick value charts don’t work for Top 10 Picks because of how often these picks are traded. Here’s a hint, they’re basically never traded. No matter what the pick value calculator tells you, use historical context, the picks are simply not available and the calculator has practically no historical context to base its algorithm on, thus the algorithm fails miserably.
The Caps certainly don’t do this trade.

Last year #11 went for #27, #34, #45.
#8 for #19, #35, #55.
I know #11 to #8 is lower down the draft...so I get the increased cost, but #27 - #19 is large too. AND Mantha??? As a Hawks fan, I'd pass.

Building Around Bedard Look to the Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRevanchist17</b></div><div>You're dilusional for 2 reasons
1. You actually think VAN would be stupid enough to make such a terrible trade
2. You believe Reinbacher will still be available at 11
If VAN waits til July 1 Myers will be easy to move since he's only owed $1M in salary, Boeser is a positive asset and no way VAN gives up the 11th overall pick for cap relief. Replace Myers with OEL and VAN might talk to you.</div></div>
1. It's spelled "delusional".
2. Calling Boeser a positive asset at that cap hit is a stretch. Re: Myers, there aren't a lot of teams eager to add $5M to their cap this summer, period, regardless of actual cash owed.
3. I would be shocked if Reinbacher was there at 11, which is why I think Ryan Leonard is the more likely pick.
4. Trading OEL wouldn't be a swap of firsts, it would be you giving up your 1st++.

Oh, Murray stinks. He and Mrazek would be co-tank commanders. But the reality is it doesn't take anything close to a 1st to dump a 1 year $4.7m cap hit. If it's Murray and the Boston 1st, Leafs are getting back a late 2nd, early 3rd in return. From Hawks, mist likely Rangers '23 2nd (#56) or Hawks '23 3rd (#69).
My feeling is Hawks will be more aggressive than last season in free agency to support Bedard. Like I said, love the Domi idea. I'd like to see Hawks make a run at Bunting as well. Like his game and he has that edge to stick up for Bedard when necessary

Thanks for the feedback, while I agree there's no reason for Guttman or TRad to be included from a Hawks perspective, both of the teams could use those pieces, hence the draft pick compensation.

Like the Domi signing a lot. No way Leafs make that deal. Murray has more value than that. Hawks don't make the other two trades. Bailey takes a 2nd to move to the Hawks. And Hawks hang on to TRad. TRad going back to Isles costs a 1st plus. I doubt the Hawks would take Granlund for a single 2nd. Probably takes more. And Hawks are high on Guttman. They love his game. Guttman would be the 2C over Granlund even if Hawks did acquire Granny.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMtommyhawk</b></div><div>Trading Murphy is probably best for the Hawks. Davidson has talked about letting the young guys grow into leadership roles, so I could see Murphy being traded to clear the deck for someone like Vlasic or Korchinski to take the reigns. The Hawks also need to give more NHL ice time to their defensive prospects to see who actually has NHL regular potential. </div></div>
I've read that Murphy himself has embraced that role and isn't downtrodden by the prospect of a long rebuild and losing more than winning but I haven't read or heard if the Hawks plan includes him. Jones also seems OK with staying in Chicago through the rebuild.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMtommyhawk</b></div><div>Although I would like the Hawks to try and package Murphy with either Tampa’s 1st or a pair of their seconds to get Buffalo’s 1st this year (assuming it doesn’t move too high up in the lottery).</div></div>

One would think so even though he seems tied to Chicago even more after getting married this summer to a Chicago-born woman - but, if the Hawks come to him and want to deal him, Murphy's fondness of living and playing in Chicago would be moot. Buffalo's situation - not just their trajectory towards a likely playoff team next season and Granato connection but chance to play with Dahlin or Power as a partner - would seem to be the next best thing for him.

Fair enough. I'd assume the hawks would think about it for a pair of seconds if they really like a player in buf's 1st round. Just shooting things around. I imagine the hawks would either like to move up the TB pick at either 19-20th or at least add another 1st for this year even if it was at the end of the 1st.

My thought on Murphy and i like him, is they resigned Tinordi to be a mentor. The TJ trade is because when healthy he has produced at a very solid level, the avs need center depth and he has stanley cup pedigree i am TB would want him back if they could afford him. I was being moderate on returns because everyone on here thinks to dump players its 1st and 2nd round picks and if it is for this draft which is pretty deep, teams aren't going to be willing to just give those picks away. My thought on some of these cap dumps is they are only 1 year, we can provide some of these guys with top line minutes hope they can produce to flip at the deadline. All need good fun and great discussions from everyone.

You are spot on with your assessment that Hawks value Murphy as a mentor for their young D and as a team leader in the room. Only way they move him is if they get blown away by a trade offer in my opinion. I think Murphy wouldn't hesitate to waive for Buffalo. Not a bad effort! Kings won't want Blackwell - they have more forwards than they can play already. And Hawks keep that 4th. Takes Turcotte at a minimum to move Peterson. Murphy doesn't get moved for less than two 2nd's or a 1st. Not sure the Hawks take Mantha for that 3rd. They definitely don't send Dickinson back to Caps. Don't see why the Av's make that deal and not sure they have cap space for Johnson anyway. The trades all seem feasible as possibilities - just not built in a way that Hawks would make them as proposed in my opinion.
