As a Nashville fan:
I wouldn't trade Turris right now at all. He has looked very good so far this season and appears to be back to his old self. He's been the "3C" and has managed 1G 1A while centering Jarnkrok and Grimaldi. So he's basically having to do it by himself and has looked good doing it. Let him rehabilitate his career some and trade him if we need the capspace down the road which i don't think we'll need. I would rather trade Smith then Turris tbh.

What the Lines Should Be
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Docdave</b></div><div>Lindholm is too good on that line ...if ya get JP then cgy has lucic Talbot JP and Reider (PTO) .fire treliving for picking through edm's trash</div></div>
There's quite a few examples players resurrecting their careers or taking a huge step forward once you wash the Oilers stink off them: Hall won an MVP, Schultz is a top 4 defender on a team who won two cups, Dubnyk was a Vezina finalist, Eberle just had a pretty solid playoff performance when he was chased out of town for his last one as an Oiler.
I think Tre's expectations of them are pretty low so I'm not overly worried about them being former Oilers. Lucic just has to play decent defense (which advanced stats show he's capable off) and throw his weight around a little. He'll be a better fit on the 3rd/4th line that Neal who did absolutely nothing last year except for flub chances. Talbot just has to be better than regular season Smith was last season, who was actually costing this team points for the first half of the year. Reider maybe doesn't even make the team, but he provides some competition for Dube, Czarnik, and the like knowing their NHL spots won't be just handed to them. I don't think JP turns it around here, as our only other Finn on the roster is another young guy with a torn ACL. I think he would be a good to land in Carolina (Aho, Teravainen) or maybe Minnesota (Koivu).

Getting the Most Out of Lucic - Option 1
I’d like to get Johnson, NTC may make it tough though. That being said, Peters coached him, Calgary is one of the closer NHL cities to his home in Spokane and he also played with Ryan in Spokane so it’s possible

VGK MTL MIN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Frankyhabs</b></div><div>(Habs fan here) I'm asking you Calgary fans about TJ Brodie. Do you see him has a top 4 D. I know he is a lefty playing at RHD spot, but would Brodie be able to play 20-22 min at LHD spot with Petry or Weber and make the job ? Just want to hear you thoughts :)</div></div>
Definitely, he will be a top 4 guy for years to comejust because of his puck movement alone, personally I see him as a 3 - 4 guy that can slide up to the top pairing when a team needs an offensive punch, good secondary power play guy, not a quarterback but he will get the puck up the ice quickly and has great zone entries. Calgary is sitting on a ton of offensive defenseman in Andersson, Hanifin, Kylington, Valimaki, I think it is just time for Brodie to find a new spot. I would likely play him with Weber in MTL just because Weber would be more than capable to cover up for Brodie defensively.

Turning the corner CGY and OTT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames22</b></div><div>I never really understood what management's plan was with Lazar. We paid a second round pick to get him and we protected him from expansion, but we hardly gave him more than 4th line minutes. In fact, he was a healthy scratch quite often. This was back when we sorely needed help on the right side, so I'm not sure why we never gave him more of a chance. His underlying numbers left a bit to be desired, but I guess that's kind of expected with such little ice time.
He had always been regarded for his leadership, so I'm really not sure what happened. Maybe he didn't get along with Gulutzan? In any event, he's done well in the AHL this year. I hope he gets another chance one day, he did show a lot of potential.</div></div>
Thanks. I saw lots of him in Ottawa and have never figured out what went wrong.

Turning the corner CGY and OTT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames22</b></div><div>You raise some good points. Bennett is (unfortunately) underused in Calgary. I actually think that he should be playing on the first line with Gaudreau, but that's just me. He has a good shot, he has decent speed, he plays feisty, he does good work along the boards, and he is one of the only players who has actually shown up for the team so far these playoffs. Having said this, as it stands now, you're right: To the rest of the league, Bennett is probably worth around a 2nd round pick, so the draft picks included in your suggestion are about fair value. Personally, I would just rather see the team build around Bennett than trade him away for a chance to move up in the draft. He is worth more to me on the team than the chance to pick at #15 would be.
From the Flames' perspective, if I were wanting to trade a player, I would be looking a little bit more closely at moving Backlund. He's a good player, he has excellent underlying numbers, and he generally plays great defensively, but I think the team has other similar and more cost effective options at the position in Jankowski, Ryan, Dubé and even Lindholm. In other words, Backlund is a player who's trade return might be more useful to the Calgary.
You're also correct about Calgary's organizational depth at defense. Because of this, I think that Kylington is in fact a trade candidate. So, considering all this together, maybe I could see something like Backlund and Kylington for Drouin (I understand that Calgary might have to add, but this would be a rough framework).</div></div>
Thanks for the analysis and intel. Not sufficiently familiar with Backlund's game these days to say how he'd fit with the Habs, but it's Bennett's rawness that I like most. He's a lot like Gallagher in how he loves to piss off opponents while also being a slightly dangerous player in the "o" zone.
Since I have you on the line, what's your take on Lazar? What has gone so wrong that he's washing out at 24?

Turning the corner CGY and OTT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames22</b></div><div>Huge no from the Flames. Calgary refused to trade Valimaki for Mark Stone, no way that trade him because of an apparent glut at LD. He is the team's next #1 dman, so if you want him, you're talking Price with retained money just to start the conversation.
And don't sleep on Bennett either. He's better than his point totals suggest.</div></div>
Thanks!! I like this answer, but I want to tease it out a bit with you. First, I really like Bennett, but he is underused in Calgary (not undervalued) and is a depreciating asset. The Flames had no first rounder last year, so the chance to move up in the draft would be meaningful, I suspect, based on what I've read about the "depth" of the top 15 in this year's prospects. Realistically, on performance, Bennett is worth a second rounder, so the swap of first and a third would be a decent payoff.
Second, a question, if Valimaki is untouchable (which I get), would Kylington be available? I would think that might work, too. Unless Hanifin has run afoul of fans, he's still the best horse in the Flames stable. Giordano, though old on paper, is showing no signs of slowing down and is under contract for the next 3 years. So really there's only room for one rookie on the left side, so without a move, you'll eventually lose one to waivers or expansion. On the right, there's Rasmus Andersson but with Hamilton and Fox gone, there' no one else in the pipeline. Brook is a good Western boy who would fit the Calgary style perfectly.
As for Mark Stone, there was never any talk of him staying in Canada after this summer, so he would have been a rental. I wouldn't trade Valimaki for a rental. That's what picks are for.

I Highly doubt the flames give up Monahan even it they get JT
Also you are only able to sign JT for 7 years unless you trade for his rights then you can sign him for a eighth year

My Attempt at a Montreal Trade
That's probably as close as it gets, tempting us with a proven but young 1st line center on a good contract and an offensive D (with defensive issues, we know).
I can't say if I'd accept the trade or not if I were the Habs GM. It all lies on a discussion with my scouting staff: is there a BETTER center available?
Right now, since I don't know that info, I'd accept the trade. Thanks for the honest effort.

Ducks, Calgary, Sharks, Blues
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Flames22</b></div><div>Sam Bennett is one of Calgary's best trade chips, and still has a fair bit of potential. I can't seem him being traded for a 34 year-old winger who has fewer points, a 6th/7th defenseman, and a centre with 11 points so far this season. Also, Calgary doesn't really need younger defensemen (Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, Fox are already in the system), nor do they need cap relief.
I think any trade involving Bennett starts with Evander Kane or Sam Reinhart coming the other way. Even then, I don't know that Calgary would be prepared to acquire either of those players at that cost. They might be better off packaging Bennett for a guy like Mats Zuccarello or Max Pacioretty. Just my (perhaps biased) opinion.</div></div>
For Max Pacioretty you are absolutely correct and I think Treliving would be wise to investigate that avenue.
But I do not want to start a big fight over this but I just want to point this out:
Pominville:
Season Team Lge GP G A Pts PIM +/-
2016-17 Minnesota Wild NHL 78 13 34 47 4 2
2017-18 Buffalo Sabres NHL 63 9 13 22 6 -16
Mats Zuccarello
2016-17 NY Rangers NHL 80 15 44 59 26 15
2017-18 NY Rangers NHL 62 10 32 42 30 -6
So you would be OK packaging Bennett to get 3 more goals over the past 2 years, but not in a package that includes 2 salary dumps and 2 other young players being offered for Bennett.
You are most likely correct that I over reached, I just wanted to point out that the trade really is not that far out. Sure the Sabres would have to add, but even by your standards as you mentioned, it is reasonable and close. I would like to add that Pominville plays on the lowest scoring team in the NHL and scored well when he was paired with Eichel. But you are correct that it would be a waste of an asset to include him in this trade.
Finally, I wonder if Okposo replaced Pominville what would you think? Do you think Treliving would have to add?

Yeah, if I had to trade him, it’d probably be for a package like that, depending on what the other pieces are. He’s still very young, so it’s not like we have to move him yet.

Thank you very much. BTW I did say it was a crazy trade. I know that trade will NEVER happen. First, both Stajan, and Stone have NTC contracts. Second, IMO (and yours) Bennett would be traded to try to upgrade and included in a trade for a superior player. On the other hand, the Flames dump Stajan's and Stone's salary, the Flame do make a modest improvement in the current team. the over all ages of the players traded are almost the same, Pomenville helps them on the right side and Girgensons on the PK, but the trade will never happen, it was just a crazy post. BTW, I agree with you, the trade will never happen, I do not want to go to war over this, just those were the reasons I thought Treliving may be interested with the trade.

Pacioretty needs either a good centre or a smart defenseman. If so, he gives 30 goals minimum. Go check his stats, because he's top 5 in goals the last 4 years combined. He's not slowing down, our GM just let Radulov, Markov, Subban and Beaulieu out. They were the players with the most assists on Pacioretty's goals and he thought Drouin and Weber could replace that. Nope! There was Desharnais too. Sure, he's unidimensional and not such a playmaker, but he's a big big fish on top of what he's our captain and leading scorer for 4 straight years! MTL is not asking a Duchene return (who had less pts and seemed more like a winger than a centre) and we'd rather keep him than NOT trading him for a high potential young centre. So no, the trade is not fair.

A Hockey Trade With Toronto?
No thanks. I think it's becoming a bit overblown how much we need a defenseman. Would I like one? Yes. Do we NEED one? No. If we go the draft and develop route I don't think we'll have an issue at all.
The Leafs are middle of the pack for goals against, and sure Freddy has been good but the defense has stepped up recently. We shut out both New York teams 2 games in a row with our top pair injured.
I'd be quite content if the Leafs were to hold off on getting a defenseman, and am certainly not trading Marner to do so.
Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Liljegren
We could be looking at that as early as next year. That's not a team that "desperately" needs a defenseman. Look at PIT last year.
So I politely decline. Sorry for the long post. Lol.
