That's probably as close as it gets, tempting us with a proven but young 1st line center on a good contract and an offensive D (with defensive issues, we know).

I can't say if I'd accept the trade or not if I were the Habs GM. It all lies on a discussion with my scouting staff: is there a BETTER center available?

Signing tavares is an even bigger reason to not trade monahan. The flames would have an incredible set of three centers. Get jt fill the roster best you can and if your that bad defensively or in net you can use monahan or backland later to get some help. Jt meaning more offense and puck possession will help the defense in itself. The trade value is pretty close but id decline of i was Calgary.

But then Cap gets in the way. This trade of Monahan and Brodie frees the space to afford JT. Jankowski is Cheaper, but he should really b the 3rd C and Backlund the 2nd.

No i agree the cap gets in the way of jt probably but i think theyd find a way without moving monahan. Buy out or cap dump via trade. Maybe move giordano or brodie for no cost youngsters.
