I see what your saying the media will be the problem. They will start saying why was he the only one to take a discount when the rest didn't and he could be the best forward.

I didn't say it was ideal I said it was to get under the cap. Most teams carry 22 they don't have to. They need to have 18 skaters and 2 goalies.

That's why Mathews makes more he know where to go and stay open Marner needs to try or and fight for the puck to get it. The puck finds Mathews this the difference between one making more and one will make less.

Tyler Ennis is a .516 ppg and .425 ppg this season mostly on the fourth line, give him and extra 200K and 2 years and he can play along Mathews. Cap problem solved.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jack_</b></div><div>i am a huge leafs fan but marleau's contract isnt good. he isnt producing as much and not really driving play at all. He is a solid 4th line/pp guy who can fill in up the lineup but he doesnt bring enough to the table to justify his contract. Its the same thing with zaitsev, if they were both making much less I would want them on the team but the cap space is much better used other places</div></div>
I agree with you but you cant just dumb the guy he has a no move no trade. Why would he want to be trade to a **** team in his last year if he has a chance at a cup just because you can need is money in other places?? Marleau is not going anywhere unless he really gets hurt and goes on LTIR.

Thoughts on These Summer Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>I don't see Carolina taking a deal like that when they have a ton of options in UFA for guys to sign. They can keep Pesce and sign someone like Kevin Hayes or Derrick Brassard or even go big for Matt Duchene.
For as long as they continue to produce, Johnsson and Kapanen are going to be paid more than that. If Jakob Silfverberg is getting paid $5.25M per season, Johnsson isn't going to take a deal where he's getting half that.</div></div>
if Johnsson wants 5M you trade brown 2M and you go for a Duchene or Panarin.

Kadri is not a 3C just because the leafs play him there. In Carolina easy second if not first

IMO we'll see a big move or 2 in the summer. Some $$ needs to be moved out to fit all the RFAs in, and everyone knows where the Leafs are weakest if both Hainsey and Zait are in the lineup.
Toronto has the biggest analytics staff in league, have to think they know better than anyone those deficiencies on the backend. Just can't overhaul the team all within the first 6 months.</div></div>
I didn’t say they didn’t know what they were doing or were the weakness is I’m saying there no money and Babcock like Hans. The only person that he inherited is Kadri with any value. I don’t know where this big moves are going to come from. The only thing that will change is Johnsson or Kap wanting way to much so he is forced to trade one of them

That may be how the dcore looks next year. I'm not that big into analytics, but I'm pretty confident thinking Dubas and his crew likely really don't like how that right side of the dcore struggles moving the puck.
Zaitsev's limited NTC kicks in on July 1st. I would be pretty surprised if Dubas is not trying hard to move him before then.</div></div>
I agree but I don’t know which team will want him. It will be interesting summer. I just get the feeling Dubus likes the team and will only add without subtracting.

2 or 3 spots opening up on the blueline next year. Makes sense to let Borgman play decent minutes on the Marlies instead of sitting in the press box to start the year like Marincin or Holl. I don't see him being on the Marlies as any indication of how Babcock or Leafs feel about Borgman.</div></div>
He was up and sent down Rosen was sent down for more time. I’m going with Rielly Hans Muzzin Dermott Zaitsev Rosen or Holl next year. Unless kap or Johnsson ask for to much then that will change things

Hard to guage value in the Kadri deal, as both pieces (solid 2C with good contract, solid RD with good contract) are both valued very highly these days. Make sense to add pick to bridge the age gap.</div></div>

Well you can go tell Dubus that. Marner, Nylander, Mathews, Tavares arent going anywhere as long as he is in charge of the ship. Kap and Jonson are also not going anywhere unless there contract demands are outrages then he will trade one or both.

I agree with you that he should have traded and I don’t see them getting past Boston. Boston and Tampa didn’t do anything either so he won’t look that bad.
