They would have probably beat Dallas if they had their entire team; maybe not but likely. Dallas ended up being the better team in the playoffs.
You will tell me CBJ was the better team last year over TBL? In the series, yes. The entire season? No. That's my point.</div></div>
Yeah you failing to acknowledge Dallas swept Colorado in the regular season and beat them in 67% of matchups over a 12 month period is more an indictment on you than anything else. Dallas plays the “Vegas style” better than Vegas. So yeah I’d say Dallas is the better “team.”
The TB situation from last season is apples to oranges. TB crushed Columbus in the regular season. For whatever reason, they were thoroughly outplayed in the playoffs.
This is not the case in the Dallas situation, who over the course of 12 months went 8-4 against a better Colorado team and 5-3 against a better Vegas team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jslongo</b></div><div>Honestly "Best" team seems to be very subjective. In sports when you have to deal with unplanned things, such as, 'weird' bounces, injuries, illness, mental state. There are so many factors when it comes to actually winning games.</div></div>
I completely agree. I know that unlike football (1 game) or even baseball (ace on the mound) it takes a complete team effort to win a hockey game / series.
I guess this is why I see the better team as the team who comes out of a head to head series (season and playoff combined) on top.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jslongo</b></div><div>At the end of the day it comes down to favourable matchups. This list is VERY accurate, when you look at the teams on paper.
A team like the Islanders are a great team, because they have SOME good players and the ENTIRE teams plays well together/has great chemistry.
You looks at a team like Carolina last year. Washington was the better team on paper, yet somehow the Canes reach the ECF.</div></div>
I don’t have an issue with the list. It is natural and just for people to evaluate talent on paper before there is any data.
After 7/8 of a season, and a bubble situation in which every single team was subject to the same conditions, I would argue there is plenty of data to analyze.
When you are attempting to evaluate two different teams is it more efficient to do so “on paper,” or based on the data that was provided over multiple matchups between the two subject teams being compared?
If you ask any GM or player, is the team that is “better on paper” or the team that wins the head to head matchups over the course of 12 months the better team, what would the answer be?
If a team has (some) talent, great team chemistry, and plays well together, would that not be the definition of a good team? One that people strive to build and be apart of? If you have a good team on paper but have unfavorable matchups, are you really an elite team? If you are on paper, superior to an opponent but they dictate the entire way a game is played and beat you because of it, are you an elite team? A complete team is one that can play anyone, at any style, and come out on top.
This isn’t football, you have multiple times to demonstrate your ability against other teams of ability. At the end of the season, no matter how it gets done, the better team presents itself.
It is amazing that when presented a complete set of data, anyone can come to a conclusion that Dallas and Tampa are not the two “best teams” in hockey this season.

What happened in the regular season meetings? I forget the matchups only matter when they play on Mars.
If a team beats another when “it’s all about who’s the best..” then is A, the winning team or B the losing team, the better team?
Sorry your team lost.

Yes, the Dallas Stars caught the bubble puck luck knocking off the teams they went 4-0 (COL) and 1-1 (VEG) in the regular season. 8-4 (COL) and 6-3 (Veg) against throughout the 2019-2020 campaign.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Phleb2</b></div><div>The roster changes that could be made IMO includes these players: BC, Cogliano, Perry, Sekera and Janmark. I do not mean to change them all but these are the one I would consider if I wanted to do changes. Player who could be coming in would be (in no order) Harley, Dellandrea, Robertson, Hanley, Kiviranta.
The problem here is that the players coming out are all Vets. So no easy hook here for Bowness who is a Vet coach first. A coach who gives a lot of importance in the little things that Vets brings instead of the energy that younger players brings. The ice time of Guri (our most productive forward in the PO) game after game after game is an indication of that philosophy.</div></div>
Yeah I’m much more inclined to play a young forward as opposed to a young defensemen, no matter how much I like Harley. Though Sekera has been slow and as uninspiring as it gets up until the last game or two, I’d rather make forward changes.
Perry has to go. Has to. He is a liability. I personally think he’s killed Hintz’s game too since he can’t keep up. Again, on Bowness to recognize this. I would rather sit Cogliano but feels like Perry has rubbed off on BC and now he wants to join the penalty party. Not a good omen for us that their power play has been quite and we insist on continuing to put them on it.
It’s just a bad, inescapable situation that will all be over by midnight (hopefully) Friday.

Especially when Bishop is back in the "unfit to play" category the day after. Clearly someone drop the ball here or Bishop was not honest with Bowness. You do not send an injured goaltender in front of the net in the PO when you have other and better options. I mean, it's not rocket science that it's better to have a not rested Dobby than an injured Bishop.</div></div>
Yeah I’m going to assume Bish and staff said he was good to go and he looked fine on the days he did skate. If that’s the case, I can move past it. If not then trade him and fire all involved.
What I cannot get over is how we watch the same thing night after night without a single adjustment or personnel change. If there are attempted adjustments, they current personnel is not capable of revealing them. Again, a personnel issue.

Which is why you play them far earlier and often. It’s no secret to anyone that the team has struggled to have an offensive identity for 2 years and has endured a 7 & 12 game slide. As a guy that has been around for a while, not recognizing this is flat out stupidity.
The reality is the guy was fired by one of the top GM’s in the game for being responsible for a unit that “just wasn’t good enough.” He can’t cut it as a HC, IHC, or even an assistant on a true contender.
Playing Bishop isn’t an issue, so long as Bishop said he was ready to go and wanted to go. Khudobin needed a rest, so why not try and steal a game with someone who finished in the Vezina hunt multiple times. Turns out we could’ve had a brick wall and still lost that one.
To run out the same ineffective line up night after night is a problem. That, is stupidity. He hasn’t been dealt an awesome hand by Nill, who also stinks, but have some balls and change it up. I’m not going to miss either of them.

Yeah I’m halfway excited the country (night owls) are seeing us get exposed. Hopefully that puts pressure on the right people.
I’ve heard from someone that cancelled some pretty prime season tickets that there have been a significant amount of cancellations. And it’s not because of the org’s support of BLM, though it was a clever spin by whoever said it. People are done with it all. Seeing how Cuban approaches his Mavs club, I personally think Gaglardi needs to sell and someone locally take over that has an ounce of care.

It’s stupidity on Bowness.
It’s inability on Nill and the front office to look at that roster and genuinely think it’s a contender. Slow, old, and reckless with regards to taking penalties.
They lose to Calgary if Tkachuk plays. They’re back down to earth now and should lose to a hobbled Avalanche team.
For the sake of all the young guys on the roster and coming up, just tear it down this fall and be ready to actually contend in a few.

You and I both, but I am so tired of seeing Janmark weakly flip a scoring chance into the stomach of the opposing goalie. Just trying to get someone else with a little more creativity/skill.
I need to see that top line turned loose against a different jersey before I’m convinced it doesn’t work.
Unfortunately, I don’t believe this team will find a fix until the front office and coaching staff is addressed

The general consensus on my post was stated above. If you take a look at recent TOR AGM teams, trades involving only Johnsson return a single draft pick (your most recent included). When taking all things into consideration, from a value standpoint it is pretty fair. If I wanted to make TOR better I probably would’ve made a leafs AGM.

That makes sense. I am a Dallas fan, so I was trying to make the best team possible. Wanted to be realistic with other team needs (cap help), but wasn’t too concerned if they were better or worse after a move.

Yeah they are, but they also play together and play very well. They are experienced enough at this point to play either side, IMO. Maybe it doesn’t work, that was just a shot in the dark. I don’t really like Lindell but he is a bargain so I’ll keep trying to get rid of him.
