What if Dorion actually did get a top 6 forward
I think this team needs 2 top 6 guys in order to take a shot at the playoffs. It would surprise me if Forementon or Brown has to be included in a trade to land some of these guys. Out of all the rumours I've read about, these are the players I'd be most interested in (not in any particular order). Keep in mind I'm not saying these are all realistic acquisitions, but I have seen rumours that Ottawa could make a pitch to acquire them. The team also needs a RHD to play with either Sanderson or Chabot so that Hamonic is properly slotted in the bottom pairing.
- Alex DeBrincat
- Claude Giroux
- Kevin Fiala (his lack of playoff performance makes me a little nervous, still early though)
- Clayton Keller
- J.T. Miller (I know he's mostly a C, but he also plays wing)
- Mason Marchment
I've also read that Josh Anderson could possibly be coming back in a trade for Colin White with Montreal. I'm not sure if he would be a good fit.

If you'd like both of Ottawa's 2nd round picks, you'll need to take "elite defender" Nikita Zaitsev as well. That way you don't need to re-sign Stralman.

Yes. Ottawa could probably use Armia, but I think Ottawa would be more interested in Toffoli than Armia. Ottawa also needs defense, so you could probably include Chiarot in the deal as well without retaining any money and still get a 3rd.

Salvagable 2021 Sens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Even that makes no sense though. Zaitsev has a way more manageable buyout this summer, or at 4.5mil for the same term, is less onerous of a cap dump. Potentially adding a pick to turn Nikita Zaitsev into a player who is a marginal upgrade on Zaitsev, but with a worse contract, is absolutely terrible. After this season it's not acceptable to get by on slight Improvements on guys who are nowhere near good enough. They need a guy who is legitimately capable of playing in the 2RD spot.</div></div>
Honestly, I agree that Myers isn't that good. He's a 3rd pairing RD at best. The problem is that Zaitsev isn't even an NHL player. He can't keep up. I'd much rather have a serviceable defenseman playing 3rd pairing minutes for 3 years at just $1.5 million more instead of a guy that can't keep up at all. I agree the team needs a 2nd pairing RD. Melnyk isn't going to pay a guy for 6 years to not play for the team. They're also going to have to consider buying out White and probably Del Zotto as well. Unfortunately Dorion keeps making these stupid mistakes at the pro level that is setting this team back imo. Re-thinking my point about throwing in a pick though. It could probably be straight 1 for 1 since we're also doing Vancouver a favour in opening up the $1.5 million.

Salvagable 2021 Sens
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Here’s my steps to make this team better:
1) Do Nothing in season
2) pick up a top 5 pick
3) make a trade in the summer
4) Bring up Sanderson
5) Get rid of the depth players that suck
6) Try to sign a great veteran like Giroux</div></div>
Yes, this would be ideal. Unfortunately, it's hard to trust that management won't bring in another depth player that sucks. I get the sense they're just expecting all of the draft picks they've made to just turn into the players that will take this team into being a contender. You can really see that mentality with the selection of Boucher this passed summer. They definitely drafted for need with him. I hope that's not the case as they will need to supplement the draft picks with good vets.

Yeah, I would just hang onto Brown rather than putting the team in a longer term problem. Myers is definitely better than Zaitsev. They have a similar length contract and it would help Vancouver free up some cap space. I would try to send Zaitsev to Vancouver for Myers. You'd probably have to throw in a pick (nothing more than a 3rd).

Making smart mooves
This is very clearly a troll job. The use of "smart" is sarcastic right?
-The Sens should say no to the trade for Matthew. He doesn't fill a need.
-Hogberg isn't being qualified and has already signed with a team in Sweden. I don't see why Vegas would do that and Fleury wouldn't be the backup after winning the Vezina
-Tierney is likely going to the Kraken
-Johansen has no hockey sense at all. Plus he has 4 years left. Why would the Sens trade Dadonov who only has 2 years left for Johansen who is worse, more expensive and on a longer contract?
Honestly, the Sens would be worse after making those trades. I'd love to have solid goaltending from Fleury, but he'd have to waive his NMC and it just wouldn't be worth it for where this team is at right now.

If you take out the 2nd round pick and you take Zaitsev from the Sens and send the Sens a player like Ethan Bear (or another player who doesn't have a terrible contract) back to balance out the money (so that you're still under the cap), then I'd do that deal.

I wouldn't do this if I was the Avs. The biggest need would be in net or at C if anything. Newhook is going to be so good. I'd look at trading a different prospect if I was the Avs.

I would try to avoid trading Norris away. He and Tkachuk are best friends. Just look at what happened when Hossa was traded away for Heatley and Chara left the next year. Huberdeau also doesn't fill a need. Barkov does. I would look at just acquiring him. Also trading this year's first round pick without protecting it is not wise when it's very defense heavy and the Sens need serious help on defense.

What would you say the Blues would need? Like I said in my explanation. I have no idea what the Blues would be looking for in dealing him and I'm open to ideas. I do know that Dunn is a 3rd pairing guy who is a PP specialist. Wolanin is a little more well rounded, but isn't as established. That's why I threw in the pick and the Blues save some money on their cap.

Not saying they're quite there but *very* positive
Francouz was at an insane .950 in his last two KHL seasons before he arrived and has a cumulative NHLe over the past 5 seasons of about .920 so... yeah 🌠
At very worst it's Kuemper/Raanta|Bishop/Khudobin</div></div>
That's great in the regular season, but I doubt they get it done in the playoffs. It's the exact same thing that happened with the Nordiques before they moved to Colorado and they traded for Patrick Roy. Roy put them over the top. If they get a more proven goalie, I think they'll definitely go all the way to the finals. It's the only missing piece in my view.

Raymond was on Ottawa radio this morning. He says he models his game after Marner. That would be great for the regular season, but if your goal is to win in the playoffs, the smarter choice would be to take Drysdale. I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see Raymond being more than a perimeter player who racks up the points in the regular season, but disappears in the playoffs. Also, having 2 stud defensemen (Chabot on LD and Drysdale on RD) would be much better. Just look at Dallas with Klingberg and Heiskenen this year or Pronger and Niedermayer in 2007. Yes, next year is littered with great defensemen, but we don't know where Ottawa will finish next year. Plus, they may end up taking Jesper Wallstedt. Taking Drysdale would definitely make me more comfortable with taking the goalie next year.

Senators Draft Targets and Team in a Few Years
I'd be ok with Raymond at 5. I'm just not totally sold on him. If Raymond is taken at 4, Perfetti is also another option. Rossi is great, but at 5 my order of preference would be Drysdale, Perfetti, Raymond or Quinn (only because I don't see Dorion trading all the way down to 10-14 with the NYI pick).
My preference at 3 would be Stutzle. Stutzle can definitely be a centre. Both guys will take time to develop, so there's no negative to letting Stutzle develop in the AHL as a centreman for the first year. Byfield needs to be motivated by the coach, whereas Stutzle just has a motor that doesn't stop and he's extremely competitive. His skill level is there with Byfield. The main difference is 3 inches in height.
With the NYI pick, I'm really hoping Dorion will move up with that pick. If he can get all the way to the 10-14 range, then I'd love them to get Jack Quinn. If not, and he can get to the 19-22 range, then I'd like them to take a chance on Hendrix Lapierre.
As for the 33 pick, Foerster, O'Rourke or Neighbors would all be great choices imo.
The rest of the picks, I haven't followed as closely, so I'm not going to comment on those ones.

That's why I threw out the idea of the Sens adding a 2nd rounder. I think it would be accepted by the Jets with that added. White didn't have a great season, but he'd fit in well and he showed that he can be a good player when paired with good wingers. I think he'd thrive playing in Winnipeg either as an RW or a C.

It's definitely something to consider, but knowing that Ottawa needs a first line C, this wouldn't be accepted. Having Connor in Ottawa would be amazing (I'm a fan of both teams). If you're getting Cirelli though, the Jets then have their 2nd line C to replace Little. I think if the trade was 5th overall, Wpg 3rd round pick, Colin White and Vitaly Abramov for 9th overall, Mathieu Perreault & Kyle Connor. One of Ottawa's 2nd round picks could be thrown in if it needs to be sweetened. With 5th overall Winnipeg could draft Jamie Drysdale if he's available or Jake Sanderson to help build back up the defence.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawa67s</b></div><div>It’s a gamble, will that pick produce a better player than White? I’m guessing no. White still has room to grow. The other parts of the trade are filler</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Trading a 23 year old middle six player at this point is not a move that makes any sense to me, unless you're doing it to make an immediate improvement in the form of a higher skill top 6 forward or a top 4 D. White isn't a star, but he's a solid player, he's already here, and he's still got room to continue to improve. If you're going to trade a guy like that, you may as well just shutter the team, because what's even the point. The rebuild has to stop somewhere.</div></div>
I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see White becoming more than a 3rd line guy. I never liked him as a pick and I was disappointed when he was signed to that 6 year deal. Mark Stone was the reason he did so well. He had a terrible season, but his value is still somewhat high as you can see from the trade offer. It has been a terrible trend where the Sens hang onto players for too long and their value is essentially 0. I say take this offer and run because the prospect they get in the 20's with the Boston 1st could turn into a very good player. At worst, you could use this pick and the NYI pick to move to the 10-12 range and get someone even better. This rebuild is still early. We're looking at 2022-23 until we're even thinking about the playoffs.

You're both crazy! Take this offer and run. White could amount to something and be more than a 3rd or 4th liner, but I'd rather open up the spot for better prospects. Sell high on White with this, especially when this is a great draft year. You're still likely to land a good player, probably better than White. Ottawa totally accepts.
