You might want to watch Barkov play a bit more. Arguably the top player from this draft year.

What it would take to trade down to 2nd

Fair enough. Laine is a good fit in Winnipeg. Wheeler, Little, Perreault, Stafford and Burmistrov are all more set up guys than trigger men. Ehlers, Laine and Connor are going to be the cocked guns waiting in the high slot.

skip over matthews in the draft (trade down to 2 )
Jets are happy with either Matthews or Laine. They don't need to trade up as they have already won the draft by moving up from seventh. With Scheifele and Little, the Jets have two useful centres. Burmistrov, Petan, Lowry, Copp, Roslovic and Dano can compete for third and fourth line duties. If the leafs miraculously pass on Matthews, Jets will happily find a home for him. Although Jets would be more likely to deal with Arizona. Be funny if the Jets came out of the draft with both Domi and Tkachuk on their roster. Jets 1.0 and 2.0 collide.

Trade with Philly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JacLax</b></div><div><i>Nice lineup, and finally a trade that works for both teams and fills need for both. PHI has plethora of LHD but no RHD, WPG has plethora of RHD but no LHD.
Courtier could be just what WPG needs to be successful in the central, a top end defensive center man who can shut down other teams top offensive lines.
Only isssue I could see is who does PHI get to fill in the 2nd line center? Is Raffl ready?</i></div></div>
Schenn back to centre. Giroux and Schenn down the middle. Simmonds and Voracek on the right wing and Connor and Raffl/Read on the left wing.

Based on what I saw at the end of the year Reinhart can play 3rd pairing D.
I think by removing Trouba you get the extra space to sign someone like Backes which is probably one of the biggest needs on the team.
The only way you keep Trouba and sign a center would be to trade Stafford.</i></div></div>
Or dump Pavelec's salary.

Nielsons Oilers Jets Side
I've always felt that the Oilers and the Jets have what the other needs. Jets have size and tenacity and an abundance of quality young LW and RHD. Oilers have skill players galore entering their prime but lack a team toughness. They carry three scoring centres and have an opportunity to draft a fourth. Any trade they complete has to be with the intention to make them a harder team to play against and improve their defence to a point where they can get the puck out of their zone to their skilled forwards. If I were to break down this trade, I would rather have Laine under control for 6+ years (including 3 at entry level expense) than Hall at $6M for 4. I'd rather have Trouba than Reinhart but flipping Lowry for a first would be a small advantage to the Jets (although I think he is really appreciated by the team).
There is something there but I'm not sure if this is it. Connor instead of Laine? Klefbom instead of Reinhart? Not sure.

Nielsons Oilers
Hall is a great player but I'm not sure he is what the Jets would be seeking. Jets already have two of the top LW prospects in the game with Ehlers and Connor. If they were to even consider moving Laine (and/or Trouba) it would be to secure a dominant centre to complement Scheifele and allow Little to move back to RW. Draisaitl/RNH, Klefbom and Eberle for Laine, Trouba and Lowry/Lemieux??? Picks to balance out either way. Fills gaps for each team. Three guys averaging 6'4" coming back would go a long way to making the Oil harder to play against. Dave Lowry would be livid.

Trade bleu jackets
Interesting scenario on the Puljujarvi trade. Heavy price but that may well be the going rate. Not a fan of the rask trade. Huge contract for 5 years and goaltending is one area the Jets have strong prospect depth. Losing both Myers and Trouba also leaves the right side of the defence underwhelming.

Jets Thoughts
You are forgiven. like Palhal mentioned, the Jets are deep in goaltending prospects. They are definitely in the market for a left shooting defenceman. Patrik Laine is likely to be their draft pick and they have a prospect named Kyle Connor who is likely to have an impact this season. He put up Eichel numbers last year as an NCAA rookie. Like that Columbus fans have an interest. The Jackets could get the steal of the draft if Puljujarvi falls to #3 for them.

Win - Edm Trade
I may not be giving RNH his rightful dues but I don't see him as an improvement over Scheifele and Little. If they are all fairly equal, this equates to a third line centre improvement for the Jets in exchange for a top 2 defender on the Oilers. I believe there is a trade to be had between the Jets and Oil, I'm not sure this is the right fit. Maybe with the addition of Reinhart or Nurse it makes better sense???

Keeping the team intact
If the Bolts try to resign Stamkos, I think they are exposing themselves to a fistful of offer sheets for Kucherov and Killorn. Even if they found a way to match, they would be killing themselves for next year's signings.

What are some moves that make sense?
I tried earlier in the week to see if there was anything that Columbus could package to convince Winnipeg to trade their #2 overall pick to the Blue Jackets. Jarmo would love to have both Laine and Puljujarvi but I'm not sure what the Jets would need back for it to make sense to them. I had Murray and Atkinson going to Winnipeg. Still didn't like the trade from the Jets side.

All comes down to whether or not Tatar gets his mojo back. He wasn't great last year. Smith had all the potential as an 18 year old but taken a step back too. If they right their ships in Winnipeg, the jets would be golden. I like Helm but I'm not sure Jets need him. Backlog of bottom six guys fighting for icetime already.

The Big Winners
Kyle Connor will also contend for a top six role. Put up better numbers than Eichel as an NCAA rookie. Jets might have had the steal of the draft last year. Lose the goons and add in Connor and Armia and I hope that's where the Jets can start next season.

I would hope the Jets wouldn't accept that deal. Trouba and 6th overall (Dubois, Tkachuk, Chychrun) for Krejci and a late second rounder doesn't seem like a good deal. Krejci for Trouba straight up would likely be a tough sell to the Jets.

No 6mil players moved
Some nice moves and I agree that the Oil don't need to part with any of their skilled forwards other than to create a new dynamic for the team. Players would have to be moved to afford Draisaitl and McJesus' next contracts. Nurse spends a season or two in the A maturing his game? Oilers have a bad habit of wasting entry level contract years. Draisaitl last year and Nurse this year.

Chevy changes his Meds
Palhal, it is nice to know that the Jets have the wealthiest owner in the league. When the Jets need to spend to the cap to win, there will be no "internal cap". Peterman's comments are spot on. Jets don't need to do anything but be patient. They have the best crop of young talent in the division. I appreciate how much fun it is to see what the Jets could do to convert future potential into current roster pieces but there is a reason Cheveldayoff has an office and I don't. Maybe one of these trades to create a stir...
