How many years until Nylander is UFA?
Is it 4 years of playing or 5 years of playing?
I am under the impression it is 4 years.

You gave up probably a little too light for Trouba, you won't get Alzner for that little, why are you taking Orpik? He doesn't do enough. Hyman is overpaid and you take him right to UFA status, either 1 year or 4, no way 2 years, you may as well flip him now.</div></div>
I might agree with the Trouba trade, though I would be willing to add another prospect. I am taking Orpik because he can still play on the third pairing and he would get them another 1st. As for Hyman, I thought 2 years would keep him in rfa status but is not go 1 year. And he gets overpaid because of the short term deal. If they give him a longer term deal than they can lower the aav. And given the current cap situation the Leafs can afford a little more on the Alzner deal.</div></div>
While I agree with your points Orpik is an expensive third pair that doesn't bring much to the table and isn't worth the cap hit.

I like how people bring up JVR is only for 1 more season but so too is Fowler.
Gardiner is worth a lot more than that.</div></div>
yeah and Fowler is worth more and would be smarter to invest money in him than it would be JVR - especially since they probably demand the same price. ANA could also trade him for a lot more than what JVR is worth.
Tanev is not a premier shutdown defender. If you call shot differentials breaking even and being negative relative to his teammates then ok yes.</div></div>
You're right on your points.

He doesn't make too many mistakes. Orpik played on the best team in the NHL. For him to have a low +/- would be sad. Gardiner played on a team that wasn't defensively sound, he can't play against top end players, but 2nd, 3rd and 4th liners he dominates.
As I said, GO LEARN SOME HOCKEY KNOWLEDGE.</div></div>
I know a lot about hockey just so you know.
So Dennis Seidenberg is better than Hampus Lindholm, right? Because he has a better plus-minus on a bad team. Am i right?</div></div>
No, it isn't just about plus/minus. Since Babcock took over his Corsi metrics have gone up significantly and the fact that the team wasn't the best defensively but he still managed to come out +22. That on its own is a little bit of a miracle because the rest of the team was under +10

Except JVR has 1 year left and will want a raise. Go look at the Ducks and see how he fits in going forward. He doesn't. They would have to pay JVR $6M most likely, and they will have Montour, Theodor and Manson as RFAs and will already be up to $54M in cap space with only 10 players on board. It would mean they would have less than $2M per player. What if Montour, Theodor and Manson get $2.5M each. That would leave them $12M for 9 players. Again, still doesn't work.
People make trades and don't look at the cap implications for the OTHER team.

I don't know about you but I would prefer our defenseman reduce the amount of goals against</div></div>
Islanders were a total tire fire this year, as well you look at things, but you don't look beyond the numbers. His Corsi went down because he went from having 50% of his starts in the D-zone to 56%. His Corsi has been close to 50% his entire career. But on the islanders I wouldn't want to give that much as a negative to the player more to the team being the team stinks.
Other thing you need to look at is that you won't get Fowler or Trouba and he is probably one of the few other options available to be traded for. Alzer will cost you too much in free agency $$ wise.

Tanev isn't that good and I don't need him to win, plus he's a d-man and doesn't show up in your lineup so why did you get him.
You don't get Fowler with that package, so keep on dreaming.
You don't get Drouin for that, and you sure don't pay him $5M on one season.
You overpay Brown for 1 year.

I don't get why people over pay backups, just for the sake of over paying. If he was good enough he would be a 1B starter, not a full time backup. You can get Curtis for $750K less and get the same production level. Remember his numbers are because of him playing with the Devils.
Don't put them on LTIR because you skew your numbers, that's all. Makes it seem like you have tons of cap space.
You trade a total of ELEVEN PLAYERS. That's a lot no matter what. No team trades a total of 11 players/prospects plus 3 picks in one off season. That would be a record.
I doubt Daley is going to take a 1 year deal.</div></div>
Really? You think a backup who can play 20 games isn't important? That's 1/4 of the regular season? GM Treliving said on TSN radio this morning that Johnson basically saved their season.
And technically I do have that cap space available if we need it
Phaneuf trade was a 9 player trade so can't see why 11 is such a big deal, Marchenko is taken in draft, Marincin move is to clear roster spot but he could stay on the team if your buthurt about it, Leafs have unprecedented amount of NHL ready forwards so expect them to have to move a lot to get the value out
Daley is 33 who only played 56 games this year, definitely not getting a long term deal if that's what your referring to.</div></div>
I'm not arguing that you have the cap space, just saying it is an unnecessary use of it.
Tell me how many 9 player trades have been done since the installation of the cap. I think that ist he most.
I think Daley will get 2 for sure without a problem. Maybe an option. He has history. It all depends on the amounts. I think Polak and Hunwick bring more to the table than Daley and both will come at significant reductions in cost.
Remember, once Marner, Matthews and Nylander get their extensions you will have to get used to finding players on cheap contracts. May as well start it now instead of later.

I agree, there is risk. Dermott only fits in with the team if you move on from Gardiner. Otherwise you would stunt his growth on the bottom pair.</div></div>
But that doesn't have to play out this second. I'd love to see Dermott make the team this upcoming season, but another year in the AHL certainly would not hurt him. So technically we could be looking at bottom pairing duties for him starting in 18/19, and if he's ready to move into the Top 4 at that point then Gardiner can be moved.
Lots of things can change before Dermott claims a spot in the Top 4.
Majority of 21 year old Dmen start on the bottom pairing, does not mean he's destined to play his entire career there.</div></div>
I think he will need another year in the AHL before he even breaks into the lineup. You need guys now, not later. It is how the team is going, but at the same time they won't fully rob themselves.
You still have Neilson and many other guys in the system. If not Dermott you can try to find a forward to replace him with.

No team is going to make SIX trades in the off season.</div></div>
Here's why I have a problem with your comment: You gave me 1 star based on the following merits:
- I paid a REALLY GOOD BACKUP 1.75million, for comparison Chad Johnson made 1.7 - this is a dumb complaint on your end
-You gave me crap for having 2 players on LTIR even when it doesn't affect my AGM AT ALL, literally add their 10+ million caps and I'm still below - DUMB complaint
-You make it seem like I traded away the whole team, 1 trade is a simple moving up in the draft, one is moving a player for a potential 7th round pick, which leaves me with 4 other trades and seeing as this offseason features an expansion draft I don't think FOUR TRADES in an offseason is out of this world</div></div>

I'd use kids over Fehr. I want Dermott but you have to give something to get something and if you think that a top 4 of Reilly, Hamonic, Gardiner, and Zaitsev can get you to a cup in 2 years, then you don't need Dermott. As well Dermott is a guy like Reilly, small and fast, you can't have your entire defense like that.</div></div>
Not if Hamonic plays the way he did this season. Him and Leddy were by far the worst top pairing in the league this year, Leddy played way better away from Hamoinc with Boychuk and even Pelech.
If Hamonic plays as poorly and Dermott continues his path to being a solid Top 4, then this trade looks awful.
Also Hamonic has had several injuries now, and plays a rugged style, how durable is he going to be?</div></div>
