(PHI/CAR) - 2nd/3rd/4th round pick for Deangelo + 7th round pick
This makes no sense for the Flyers. Trade away THREE picks for an offensive defenseman in his prime when you should be rebuilding, AKA trying to <em>acquire</em> picks. And then you only sign him to a two-year deal??

(CHI/OTT) - DeBrincat for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stones6160</b></div><div>Ottawa should be able to easily pay the QO, if QO was a factor it actually makes sense for a team closer to the ceiling.</div></div>
It's not so much about ability to pay, but their ability to sign him to a long-term deal. DeBrincat can easily sign his QO after this season, spend next season on a 1 year $9 million deal, and then hit his first year of free agency at the early age of 26 and drive his price up on the open market. Dorion obviously wants to extend him as soon as possible to avoid that potential situation.

What is the best site for comparing players advanced stats.
I'd say the "Big Four" of public analytics sites are:
HockeyViz.com
Evolving-Hockey.com
MoneyPuck.com
NaturalStatTrick.com
HV and EH have paywalls for their more advanced work, but it's well-worth the money in my opinion.
There's also JFresh/TopDown who have some great work out there as well, but they don't have a website, just access through JFresh's Patreon. You can also see the raw data on Patrick Bacon's tableau.
AllThreeZones.com is Corey Sznajder's manual tracking project and is also really cool too, though it also requires a subscription.

What don't you get the hype for?
Superhero movies. Mainly because I'm not a big fan of action movies in general.
Although I did like the new Batman film, mostly because it's more of a detective-style movie than your standard MCU film. I also have a soft spot for the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy since I remember watching it when I was younger and it makes me nostalgic.

I'm pretty sure I remember Jim Nill saying Covid was a factor. His rights were due to expire right in the middle of the pandemic, after the season was put on pause, so I'm guessing it was a financial decision.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roysboy72</b></div><div>Looking good! The value seems to be fair on both sides, everybody gets what they want.
My biggest question: Does Copp end up re-signing in New York after this season?</div></div>
That was my first thought when seeing the return. It's quite a lot for a guy like Copp, so I'm wondering if NYR tries to re-sign him instead of Strome.

Gotcha. I was a little confused since it burned a year off of his contract, I figured it would count as a season toward free agency. Seems kinda silly that he both reached the 25 game rookie cutoff and burned a year off of his contract, but still doesn't count as an accrued season because he didn't reach the 40 game threshold.

34 regular season games and 5 playoff games isn't enough to accrue a season? That seems odd. I'm assuming it has something to do with age/where he was drafted out of?

Is Timo Meier really a RFA at the end of his current deal? The way I see it, next season is the final year of his current deal and it will be his 7th NHL season. So shouldn't he be a UFA when it expires?

Huge win for Boston.</div></div>
Fox is excellent in his own zone, and Makar isn't a sieve either. Just because they rack up points and are under 6'0" doesn't mean they're poor defensively.

People just look at the points and assume he's a tier below Fox and Makar, when in reality he's just as good. He was held off of the Bruins' PP1 unit for years by Krug so he didn't have the opportunities to rack up points, despite being an elite two-way defenseman at even strength and an excellent penalty killer.

Chicago Blackhawks signed Connor Murphy (4 Years / $4,400,000 AAV)
Murphy, McCabe, and De Haan as three of your top four defensemen is a pretty solid base to have, especially for a team that has issues in its own zone. I'm not that high at all on Jones, but even I don't think he'll have another terrible season like last year, so if he can bounce back to even a respectable level of play, Chicago's top four doesn't seem all that terrible, especially for how it's looked over the past few seasons.

Carolina Hurricanes signed Andrei Svechnikov (8 Years / $7,750,000 AAV)
This will, if it hasn't already, turn into one of the most team-friendly deals in the league. Svechnikov is already arguably the best young winger in the game, and will likely turn into one of the league's top 3-5 offensive wingers.

35+ Buyout Rules
In the Buyout FAQ section of the sight, it states the following regarding 35+ contracts:
<strong>A buyout of a 35+ contract that is two years in length or longer <em>and</em>:
1. Has a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Is front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit.</strong>
So I found two 35+ contracts that were recently signed that seem to avoid points 1 and 2, Ryan Suter and Mike Smith. Both are signed for 2+ years, but both contracts are back-loaded and neither of them have a signing bonus in years 2 or later. Therefore, it stands to reason that if either of these contracts were bought out after year 1 the teams <em>would benefit from a reduced cap hit</em> despite both contracts being 35+, is that correct?
I'm just verifying since the buyout calculator says that since they're 35+ contracts there will be no effect on the cap hit; I'm guessing the calculator doesn't look at the salary structure or the years where there are signing bonuses, which makes sense since these types of contracts are very rare.
