Wings Acquire Defensive Leader
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>reelkena</b></div><div>easy no from Car</div></div>
Solid Rebuttal.
An argument could've been made for an extra 2nd Rd pick to be included in the package plus Viro who had a decent showing at the World Juniors & was a 2nd Rd pick.
Cholowski has offensive potential & can man the point on the 2nd PP unit since the Canes struggled to score. Svechnikov needs a change of scenery & is pretty much given away in the package. DeKeyser is a veteran with retained salary on a 2 yr deal & cheaper than Hamilton going into UFA. Hamilton is also coming off 2 injuries last year & has underwhelmed in the playoffs never topping more than 7 points in a playoff run despite playing in all situations & heavy minutes. For a contender that's not great but for a rebuilding team on the rise he's right in line - hence the possible extra 2nd Rd pick could be included in an updated package.
Thinking teams are going to give away high 1st Rd picks & Top 5 prospects is unrealistic. Had Hamilton stayed healthy & maintained Norris status then yes that's a possibility but then he wouldn't be mentioned in any trade talks & would've already been extended.

Red Wings Goalie of the Present amp Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>reelkena</b></div><div>Nsh has no interest in any of your pieces offered. It really does not matter what the expectations of Saros are if you think you can get a starting goaltender for a 3rd and some lesser pieces, you missed something somewhere.</div></div>
The Preds have Ingram & Askarov on the verge of joining the NHL plus they have Rinne for 1 more year before his contract expires. With the expansion draft coming up, the Preds could risk losing Saros for Nothing or they can get a package that is in the range of the market.
Matt Murray (2 Time Cup Winner, 26 yrs old) was traded from the Pens (also facing a glut of young goalies & chose Jarry) rather than lose him for nothing in the expansion draft - Pens received a 2nd Rd pick (52nd overall) & prospect Jonathan Gruden (who wasn't ranked in Sens Top 10 prospect list & is only #7 on the Pens prospect list now).
Saros has no Stanley Cups to his name but showed promise in the playoffs (his first extensive starting experience in the playoffs wasn't pleasant but he can improve). I can see the Wings offering a 2nd Rd pick instead of a 3rd & 5th Rd. Cholowski had garnered interest from the Preds in 2019 but only for depth but given that they have 3 Defensemen Questionable to start the season & its only 56 games they could use the depth.
Bernier offers a cheap backup to Rinne with the Wings picking up salary which allows the Preds to still pursue a top end player at the trade deadline. If you think teams are going to just give away 1st Rd picks to a team facing a goalie squeeze (see Columbus Blue Jackets) then you're misreading the market. Pens saw the writing on the wall & were still able to get a 2nd Rd Pick & depth prospect rather than lose Murray for nothing.
Kraken will need 2 goalies - Ingram will be a target & Preds have to decide between Ingram, Askarov & Saros. Other teams can see the situation & will use the Murray deal as framework. I could see the final deal being Bernier (30% salary retention), Cholowski (or Rasmussen), 2021 2nd Rd pick for Saros & 2022 4th or 5th Rd pick. When all the Preds defensemen are healthy they could expose Cholowski to the draft while protecting all of their own. This trade helps both teams - Wings can find out if Saros is a goalie of the future over the next 2 years, if not they move on - Preds get something for Saros rather than lose him for nothing.

I'm a Red Wings fan and this trade would be great for us but CBJ would not do it - not only because they are trading within the division, but if the CBJ GM accepted that trade, he would be fired. I do agree that the public stuff about Dubois did not help CBJ but he did signed a 2yr - $10 Million deal. Sure, it could be setting up for a trade but by getting Dubois under contract, it bought CBJ more time & a little more leverage (think back to when Sergei Federov held ou in 1998, signed an offer sheet, but then came back to the Wings, people thought he was going to get traded but he stayed, won 2 more Cups & played out the entire deal before leaving via FA).
For the players you got back, especially Korpisalo who has starter potential, we would be looking at multiple draft picks & possibly our 2022 1st Rd pick - keeping in mind because we're in the same division. CBJ has no shortage of Goalie prospects so Bernier is just for this year. Gagner & Ryan are on expiring deals. Hirose could not make the lineup of last year's Red Wings team that had 17 Wins. Cholowski would be value in this package but not enough. DeKeyser would have to show that he is recovered from Back surgery after being off the ice for more than 1 year, CBJ would have him for a 2nd year at $5 Million, so retaining some salary was a good move but he's also 30 yrs old. Trades within the division can happen for sure, but they are complicated because both sides want to get fair value & this current deal would be great for Detroit but very unlikely CBJ would accept it.

Wings-Jets-Laine-Blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AnyoneButTheBruins</b></div><div>Destroy our rebuild sure why not! :tearsofjoy</div></div>
How would this deal destroy the Wings rebuild? Helm is a UFA after this year. Svechnikov is no longer waiver exempt on a 1 yr deal & is about 1.5-2 yrs older than Laine. Rasmussen is a solid value prospect that would have to be included in a deal like this for a player of Laine's caliber. Offering Rasmussen is not as difficult as it was a couple of months ago after watching Elmer Soderblom develop in the SHL & in the 2021 World Juniors. He offers the size, hands & skating of Rasmussen if not more & he was a 6th Rd selection by Yzerman. As for the draft picks - the 2nd Rd pick (Edmonton) would be in the 52-56 range given that Edmonton is considered a playoff team and even if they are not then that pick is in the range of 46-50. As for the 2022 1st Rd pick (Detroit), we should hope that by making moves for players like Laine, that pick will be a Non-lottery pick (17-32).
The Wings have established forwards in Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Zadina, Fabbri & Namestnikov for the next 2 yrs - plus incoming forwards in Veleno, Raymond, Berggren, Soderblom, Niederbach, Grewe, Smith, Stange, Brome plus anyone else they draft with their 2021 1st Rd Pick (if not Owen Power) or their other two 2nd Rd picks, plus 3rd Rd Picks....keeping in mind we can only field 12 forwards, plus a 13th for Scratch/Backup during the regular season. Adding Laine to that mix would give the Wings an elite set of Wingers to go with Mantha, Bertuzzi, Zadina, Raymond, Berggren & Soderblom.
So....yeah, not sure how that destroys the Red Wings rebuild while also giving fair value to the Jets for a player of Laine's caliber, plus we'd be getting draft picks back in the lower rounds. After 2 years the Salary cap will finally increase from $81.5 Million which will mean Laine's extension will not be difficult to fit under the cap given that 8 out of our 12 forwards would be under rookie/RFA deals - also 4 out of 6 Defensemen would also be on rookie/RFA deals (Seider, Hronek, Wallinder, Tuomisto, Johansson, Lindstrom, Berglund, McIsaac, maybe Power).
Did you think the Red Wings gave up too much for Brendan Shanahan when they traded Keith Primeau, Paul Coffey & a 1st Rd pick? 3 Stanley Cups would say otherwise.

The points made about the Tampa deal are fair as well - when Kucherov comes back off the Injury List they will have to make room for his $9.5 Million. The Coburn & Paquette trade cleared space & allowed TB to put Gaborik & Nilsson on LTIR - but after resigning Cirelli, Sergachev & Cernak they were between $11-12 Million over the cap. The draft pick could be pushed to 2022 but the Wings would still want a 1st because given the TB's Contender status for at least the next 3 years, that 1st Rd pick will most likely be between #28-32 which I think is a fair price to pay to keep the contender status strong. TB has Volkov & Barre-Boulet ready to step into the lineup to take Killorn's place on the 3rd line. Killorn's value to the Wings is leadership, clubhouse culture & stabilizing the 3rd line compared to Filpulla or Nielsen. Killorn becomes an candidate for Alternate Cap on this Wings team plus will help incoming prospects like Veleno, Berggren, Raymond, Soderblom & Niederbach. The draft compensation going back to TB would still be a 2021 4th Rd pick but a prospect could be included like forwards Otto Kivenmaki Or Mathias Brome, high potential slotted for bottom 6.

I see your points regarding Winnipeg as far as draft compensation - the updated draft pick package would now be a 2022 1st Rd pick plus the 2021 2nd Rd pick. Svechnikov is a former 1st Rd pick who would be included to see if a change of scenery would help him & he can develop with the Jets. Rasmussen is also a former 1st Rd pick who has a pretty decent net front presence & C/W versatility with middle 6 potential. The Wings would be getting Laine for 2 years at $6.7 Million & the opportunity to extend him or flip him by the 2022 trade deadline. A case could be made to include a 2022 3rd Rd pick as well. Helm offers Jets PK help & speed on their bottom 6 with salary retained by the Wings. Jets could use that cap space to acquire another player at the trade deadline (any high end player will have about half of their season salary already paid, so Jets would have space to acquire a $7-8 Million/year player if they only need to fit $3.5-4 Million under the cap for the 2021 season). The prospect package could be updated as well to include defenseman Dennis Cholowski (former 1st Rd pick) Or Antti Tuomisto (2nd Rd pick).

I just read that about Alnefelt, he is not a deal breaker in a trade. My understanding of the cap space for TB is that they will still have a cap problem once Kucherov is reactivated in time for the Playoffs this year. For now his $9.5 Million will not count until his Injury status changes. 1st & 2nd would be steep price to get Johnson off the books, Seattle would consider it. Wings could take all of Killorn's contract & it would cost either a 2021 or 2022 1st Rd (both of would be in the low 20s range) given Lightning's contender status.

Wings-Knights-Salary Cap-Trade
The X-Factor would be GM Steve Yzerman talking to Fleury promising to move him to a contender in need of a goalie by the trade deadline. The team acquiring Fleury would only be responsible for $3.5 Million of his salary at that point, with the Red Wings offering to retain a percentage to facilitate the trade to a contender with lower cap space. Clearing that space for Vegas means Pacioretty and Marchessault do not have to be traded and the Knights keep their potent lineup intact for another Cup run. The 2021 2nd Rd will be in the low 50's & the 2022 1st will most likely be a Non-Lottery Pick (mid to low 20s) . Bernier on expiring deal becomes solid backup for Lehner. Biege, a veteran, can go on the Knights Taxi Squad to be used in the bottom pairing in case of injury/covid. Red Wings get to field a more competitive team while still bound for lottery. Plus the cap space created for the Knights allows for a FA signing or a trade deadline acquisition for the playoffs.
