<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRafiki</b></div><div>Those reports are BS for one simple reason: why would Tkachuk give away that kind of leverage when it comes to negotiating his contract? That makes even less sense than screwing over Calgary. Think about it, if the Blues know that the only place Tkachuk wants to be is St. Louis, they have him by the short hairs. Over the course of an 8-year contract, giving up that kind of leverage can cost a guy $20M. I assure you that his agent is doing the rounds and will ensure Tkachuk gets a bunch of offers. Perhaps St. Louis is one of them. But the Blues have a pretty good thing going already, so why would they torque their roster for a diva?</div></div>
Do you think Tkachuk cares about the return for Calgary? Do you think he cares about getting the most money possible? We just watched Johnny G leave millions on the table to sign with the team he wants to be with. If all Tkachuk cared about was money he'd just resign with Calgary. This is where he's gonna spend the next 8 years of his career. I don't think money is the most important thing for him.

An unprotected 2023 1st in one of the best drafts in recent memory is a big no. That could backfire so badly.

That's what your hoping will happen. There likely won't be a bidding war because he likely only wants to sign with one team.
> I am not comparing their contract status at all when I said that.
That's literally one of the most important parts of a player's trade value. That's why there was a bidding war for Eichel. He didn't need to sign an extension with any team. They could've traded him to a team he didn't want to go to. There still wasn't some massive bidding war though because it's hard to move a 10M player.
> Though I do think Tkachuk can definitely return a package similar to what Eichel got
If Tkachuk was signed long term he would get a great return. He's not so I'm expecting less than Eichel got.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Stone was traded at the TDL as a pending UFA, thats not 1 year thats 1-2 months.
Fiala is a fraction of the player Tkachuk is. While a somewhat similar situation they aren't nearly the same value. That's like saying Reinhart is just as good as Tkachuk when he refused to sign long term with the Sabres
You are aware Eichel was traded at 10 cents to the dollar right? That injury greatly effected his trade value.</div></div>
Why do you keep nitpicking with these examples so hard? No example is going to be absolutely perfect. Their names aren't Matthew either. They have some huge similarities though. Tkachuk will be a pending UFA if he makes it to arbitration.
> That's like saying Reinhart is just as good as Tkachuk when he refused to sign long term with the Sabres
Nobody is comparing their skill levels. Stone was one of the best two way wingers in the game at the time though.
> You are aware Eichel was traded at 10 cents to the dollar right? That injury greatly effected his trade value.
Yes just like needing a huge extension and likely only wanting to sign with one team will hurt someone's trade value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRafiki</b></div><div>Sure they do. There are 20 teams staring at their whiteboards and wondering how they can find the space and create a package to get Tkachuk. They have all the leverage they need.</div></div>
"There are 20 teams staring at their whiteboards and wondering how they can find the space and create a package to get Tkachuk"
That doesn't matter though. What matters is what team Tkachuk wants to go to. A team is not going to trade for Tkachuk if he's not willing to sign long term. Buffalo likely isn't even a team he wants to sign long term with.
Based on Strickland's reporting (very close to the Tkachuks) he only wants to go to St. Louis. That's a terrible spot for Calgary to be in. A guy that can walk in a year that only wants to sign long term with one team. They lose a lot of leverage.

Calgary will certainly give permission to talk negotiations so you can guarantee whoever gets him will get the full 7 year extension</div></div>
Of course they are comparable. All 3 had one year to free agency. All 3 didn't want to resign with their team. All 3 are wingers. All 3 needed an extension with their new team.
You were drawing comparables to Eichel who isn't even remotely similar.
People in this situation usually only have two or three teams they are willing to sign long term with. Might even be only St. Louis based on Strickland's reporting.

Including Quinn is way too much. Calgary doesn't have much leverage to get a return like that.

Eichel was signed long term very different. Sabres could've traded him to any team. That's not the case with Tkachuk. A team will not trade for him if he's not willing to sign long term. This is more like Mark Stone when he got traded. Fiala is another one. Where an extension would be part of the trade / the player was a UFA in the summer.

I do realize now Buffalo is not the right fit, for some reason I thought Dahlin was RD not LD. However, you could definitely get a first for him. Look at what he was origanally acquired for, he's not to far removed from that and is still an excellent player. Additionally, look at what guys like Ristolainen and Chiarot have got in return. Muzzin is better than both of them by a mile. (Chiarot was deadline, which definitely drives up the price, so Muzzin being worth a first outside of the deadline would make sense, maybe without the third though.)</div></div>
Risto was 26. Chiarot played 23+ minutes on a team that just went to the Stanley Cup.
Muzzin is 33, has a bad contract, and has declined. He also has a NTC and will decide where he gets to go.
Nate Schmidt with a similar contract & NTC got a 3rd.

Fitz is a 7th d man. Sabres can find guys on the street to bring the exact same thing.
Myers is a guy who can play 22+ minutes every night. Will be a big boost to have a guy like that next to Power. I think Myers would work well with Granato too.
Sabres don't need to worry about cap space the next 2 years. They will have almost 20+ million in space even with Myers.

He's not a cap dump. Solid defensive d man. Teams would easily trade a 2nd for him if Jets decide to move him. Contract isn't big either.
Myers is way better than Fitz. Sabres don't need to worry about cap in next 2 years. Would rather have Power play with a vet that can play big minutes than a AHL call up guy.
