Defensive signings are too stabilize the young guys and help them focus on their individual growth while providing a back bone for them to lean on
Anyone thinking that the hawks are going to go out and sign a star forward or defenseman to improve on where they were from last year is kidding themselves. Any star that were to sign here would be on a 1 year deal that gets traded at the deadline. This is a solid team around the bottom 8-10 range which is where the hawks are looking to be. The pieces signed are there to ensure the depth is decent enough so if they have a disaster class of injuries again they aren't an AHL team</div></div>
Zub is like... a top 5 defensive D in the league. There simply is not a better way to spend 4.6 mil on the blueline. He's their number 2 after Sanderson.

OFFSEASON
Murphy is much older, much more prone to injury, and was WAY less effective defensively. What is so good about a 6th that makes Ottawa consider moving their 1RD?

Big trade
I saw a Sens fan suggest this on Twitter. I think both teams should do it. Obviously the deal hinges on both players agreeing to an extension (or at both organizations would need to feel confident they would extend), but I think it makes sense. Maybe there's some nominal swapping of minor parts in there, but the bones of it work.
An Ehlers-Stützle-Giroux line would go unbelievably hard

Vet 3C who is very solid definitely this season and most of his career. Also adds some size to the lineup. He'd be a very welcome addition imo. Good for 40+ pts before this year too. I'd love him tbh.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Understandable there, but its something he can develop. He can always work on break outs. Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. There are some wicked defensive prospects, some of whom definitely grade out higher than Yakemchuk, but the package he brings to the table is undeniable. Can't see him falling further than like...12? At the worst. RHD are treated like unicorns in the NHL, teams just aren't passing up on an RHD with his big frame, who knows how to use that size, and with the obvious talent he has over details. The things that make him special are the things that just can't be taught, any development staff worth their salt can teach him to pick his spots on breakouts or defensive positioning or whatever warts he might have. I'd be very happy with him at 8 for Ottawa, though admittedly part of that is just because I want to hear PxP guys struggling with calling Tkachuk, Ostapchuk and Yakemchuk on the same team

Mock Draft with Trades
I mean credit for putting in a lot of effort, but this is just horrendous for Ottawa.
Trading all that to move up, just to select Parekh is beyond stupid. To start with, in my opinion, there's a really high chance that Parekh would fall to Ottawa at 8 anyway, so there’s no reason to move up to get him. There's a clear top 3 in this draft, but even when the field opens up at 4, I can't see Parekh going ahead of guys like Catton, Buium, Dickinson, Silayev, Lindstrom. At least 3 of those guys will go ahead of Parekh, so Ottawa's essentially a lock to have the chance to draft one of those two RHD studs in Parekh or Yakemchuk. Parekh has a wicked skillset, but I don't think he puts himself head and shoulders above the rest of the crop of guys potentially on the board at 8 enough to warrant a trade up, especially at such a high cost. Now if the top 3 somehow miraculously ran out Celebrini/Demidov/Catton and it was Levshunov on the board at 4, I think it's a <strong>very</strong> different conversation, but that's just not happening.
The Pinto deal is also brutal. The Sens have put a lot onto developing Pinto, and that effort is starting to bear fruit as he's developing into that top 6 200ft C they desperately need. Staios has spoken many times about how they view him as part of the core, and how they intend on getting him done long term. He spoke end of season about how much he loves being a Sen, his love of this group and how he was hoping he'd have his long term extension in place before the World Championship starts (though this is seeming less than likely). The fans love him, the players love him, even local media loves dealing with the guy. There is simply no appetite in this market for a Pinto trade, at any level. There's a reason all those talking points exclusively come from external markets. It just isn't on the table.

Skinner has had one season where he was debatably worth his contract, and he promptly crashed back to earth this year. Forget the 1st, Ottawa wouldn't even give you Boucher, and Boucher is bad AND always injured.

What will the Sens do in the off season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Duggysdanglers</b></div><div>Why do Sens fans want to get rid of Norris?</div></div>
He's a great player when he's healthy, but he just makes too much when he consistently misses so much time. Pinto played great in his half season, and is due for a new contract and an expanded role next season. From a team perspective, Pinto is ready to be a full time 2C (or potentially the "1C" depending on his linemates), and Ottawa has too many needs to address this summer to really warrant keeping him on. His money could be better spent on, for example, a more veteran C who makes more sense in a 3rd line (Sens are way too inexperienced down the middle, Greig is likely a better fit as a winger), and a top 4 RHD (they have nobody besides Zub).
For a team willing to roll the dice, Norris could be an incredible bet if he's able to fond some better health luck. He's still got an incredible shot. Easily could have had like, 25 goals in the 50 games he played, but the Sens powerplay has been horrible at finding one timers on the half wall for like, 3 years at this point.

Anaheim doesn't have the pieces, at least none that they'd move. Don't say Zegras, because you don't trade hard skill for soft skill, especially at a huge downgrade on talent.

Yeah, that's fair. Which is why I think giving the Boston 1st to get Ingram + dump one of their goalies would definitely be worth it. A .907 sv% goalie isn't elite by any means, but he's well above average this year, and he's got term below 2mil AAV. If you can get Ingram and Stolarz for below 5.5mil combined, that's probably the best case scenario for Ottawa. I'd love to get a bonafide stud, but I just don't think that's gonna be available to them. It's either betting on a relatively inexpensive tandem with above average results or taking another gamble on a big name starter of dubious quality like Jarry or Kuemper.

Idk if it's a hot take or not, but Anthony Stolarz should be Ottawa's number 1 target. Probably their best bet at finding a goalie that can make saves.
Definitely need to get one of those top 4 RD too.
