Ugh I hope Buffalo wouldn't make that trade. You'd have to pay me to take Laughton.

Buffalo would never... Team controlled assets with room to grow in Quinn and Benson wouldn't be moved for a pending UFA due a raise from his current 10M$+ AAV...

Make it Smith and Eller and I think Buffalo would say yes. Skinner is still the question mark though.

I don't see how you can roster build to deploy him in the Top4. Byram has played some of his worst hockey on the right side and Power-Dahlin can't be broken up with how they played down the stretch. Need someone to play the right side with Byram and that moves Samuelsson to 3LD or off the roster.

You need a good work truck, not a sportscar. Of course you can never have too many centers, but first of all he gets more than that, and second of all, Buffalo has bigger problems than filling 3C. Better to spend 6.5 million on an actually viable veteran 2RD, for example.</div></div>
I did that too...

Samuelsson
Even if Samuelsson was a dump, buying him out costs like 750K$ a year for 12 years since he's under 26. There's no reason to pay to get rid of him... That said he has legitimate value anyways so it's a moot point.

Turning this ship around
Bernard-Docker is like an appendix in Buffalo. With Dahlin, Power, and Byram there's no need for an Offense only D. I like Batherson but not at the cost of Kulich. For that reason, I'm out.

My issue with this plan of attack is there's serviceable 4th liners out there for 800K. I'd rather the 6.5 and 2.5 be put together to go get someone much higher on the food chain for the top lines.

Wahlberg is a second round pick who has done nothing but live up to expectations so far. If you take out the 1st it could be fair. That's the main issue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boos</b></div><div>Thompson had 47 goals and 94 points playing with Skinner and Tuch in 2022-23.
This season every one of those guys suffered injuries that hampered their play. I'm not saying Skinner is a Selke candidate, nor am I willing to say that his production won't drop off. However, Skinner's PDO isn't that far off of Marner's and his style of play will allow him to be in that 25-goal area for a few more seasons.
Skinner had an off year this year, as every Sabres player not named JJ Peterka had, and even so he managed 24 goals.
An extra $3M for Marner for two seasons after next as a Skinner's replacement and $12M for six more seasons for a winger just doesn't make sense to me. At least not a winger that's more of an assist-guy that can play good defense.</div></div>
That's fair.

This trade would save them 3M$ next season and then 5M$ the subsequent two seasons to spend on rounding out their defense and goaltending. Not to mention the 1sts that are valuable player acquisition assets

Over the past three seasons, Marner's 33.7 goals/82 games is only slightly better than Skinner's 32.4 g/82.</div></div>
Marner is 5 years younger than Jeff and I think we're gonna see the fall off in Jeff's game sooner than later. Marner and Thompson would be electric. Marner is also quite responsible defensively where Jeff isn't at all.

31.6M in space:
Marner 12M x 8
Peterka 7M x 8
Quinn 4.5M x 2
Rousek, Levi, Johnson get a couple more years around 1M
Greenway, Girgensons, Foegele replaced with ELCs.
Leaves 2M in space.
Samuelsson/Byram/Clifton is where you make room. Can't carry 6 D making 3M plus. But that's a problem for after next season. Maybe can just sell 2 and have Strbak/Novikov/Komarov/11th overall be ready. Or add cheap UFAs.
Being good first is the priority though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ujeje</b></div><div>Ofc Torts (or Shaw) is big part of the improved PK and the addition of Poehling did help for sure. But as said, he's been big part of their PK and could eat minutes in there to let Tuch, Cozens or someone else to focus more on 5v5/PP.
And just wondering why Oilers, Rangers, Leafs, Avs or even Sabres were interested of him, if he'd be as bad as Sabres fans say. At least the GMs of the contenders (and Sabres) can see something in him.
If he would be going to be traded to Sabres, I think Krebs would be part of the deal and could help both teams. Sabres would get more physical 3C and Flyers younger reclamation project.</div></div>
I don't see how a guy can be part of the worst PK year over year for 3+ years and then when everything else changes and it gets better he's seen as a positive piece of it? Everything else is what caused the improvement.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ujeje</b></div><div>Naa, even if you do have some personal vendetta against Laughton, and he had a bit of a down year, he'd be making your bottom-6 and PK stronger + brings leadership and work ethic into your young team. Flyers had 4th best PK, Laughton played 2nd most in PP of Flyers forwards, only Poehling had 5sec/game more. And just because for some people points are what matters, Laughton had 8 SH points, while Sabres as a team scored 7 goals SH.
And about that trade, even if the value is kinda close for what Flyers probably would want, I think they'd still decline that. They really don't need more small LHD or RW. Flyers FO and Tortorella really values him, and they had many teams interested on him, but they're not trading him for just the sake of trading.
" "Fair value" wasn't going to cut it, Brière said, because for everything Laughton has brought to the Flyers, especially in the past two years as the organization set out on its rebuild, he means a whole lot more than that. "</div></div>
He's an absolute liability 5v5 and the Sabres PK was already plenty good.
Not to mention the Flyers had one of the worst PKs in the league the 3 years prior to this year where he was still the most common forward on the ice.
So it's far less likely that he was the cause of success, and far more likely that it was Torts' system mixed with the rise of York, Seeler, and Poehling.
Can't discount the removal of Staal and Risto from the PK either.
No need to spend quality assets on that.
