This is a bad idea. Are you really going to get more than the top-40 pick you're giving up for Tanev at the TDL? Is it worth the risk of giving away a top-40 pick and then the guy gets injured and is untradeable?
I see spending a 4th to get someone in hopes of flipping them for a 2nd or 3rd. Taking a cap dump (who is decent player, just overpaid) for nothing, then retaining half, and flipping them for something at the TDL makes more sense. You're not out anything if things go sideways.

Too big of a risk in spending actual assets trying to play flipper.
It has to be a buy low player.

Spurgeon Out for Season and TDL implications
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>Fingers crossed Guerin doesn't take this as an opportunity to add a big piece thinking he wants to salvage the season</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MNCountryClub</b></div><div>For sure - I was thinking if he's free/near-free at his full cap hit, you could use him on the right-side with Faber and Bogo (maybe ship him out eventually too). Give Barrie PP time and maybe deal again with 50% retained at TDL.
Merrill and Goose can eat popcorn the rest of the year, and give Hunt/ROR a steady flow of games.</div></div>
I think the solution is to have Merrill and Goligoski both playing more minutes to help secure that draft pick. Use Spurgeon's LTIR cap hit to pick up an extra pick or two and let Faber continue to make his case for the Calder while he's out.

Kuzmenko is a guy who’s clearly fallen out of favor and has very little value. Raty and podkolzin have been solid AHL players that haven’t made the jump. brzustewicz Is the only really quality asset going back based off current production in the OHL. This is a a lot of quantity not enough quality for a guy they don’t have to move other teams would offer more quality

Idk if you can plan on Spurgeon being LTIR'd all year, so his $$ is gonna throw a wrench into your plan.
I think Teravainen will want more term anyway - entering his 30 YO season, probably his last chance to get a nice payday.

Yeah just so completely unnecessary to do that before the season unfolds. Just such poor decision making to not even wait a bit.

Minnesota aren’t interested in trading Eriksson Ek.

Next year
If Mittelstadt has priced himself out of Buffalo, he's probably also priced himself out of a team with $14m in dead cap. Especially if they're giving up a starting goaltender and top 4 dman on affordable deals.

They have high potential, but until they show it, the Wild will keep that pick and draft their own prospect with it.
