My dream scenario is Boston gets top 10 Detroit gives up late 20s-32 and then Boston is even worse and Detroit gets another lottery pick as a playoff team.

Yeah we definitely won that trade, Plus getting Cat at 4 years $7,875,000 is another major win in itself.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CJ1909</b></div><div>Yeah that is confusing, but taken out of context. I said A package of 1st + Kubs + 2nd or 3rd is better than what the Sens gave up.... The 9OV, Kubs and a 3rd would be more more than what was given up.
'23 7th OV < '23 9thOV
2nd (39th OA) < Kubs (you can use him for the season and still trade him for a 2nd)
'24 3rd (was 2 draft years out) = '25 3rd
A fair and reasonable offer is 17th OV, Kubs and a '23 4th or '24 3rd which is slightly less than what the Sens paid. Wings have more leverage as the Sens have been told he wants to be in DET and really cannot afford him anyway when other, bigger holes, have to be plugged. If he goes to DET and more is given up, I would be very shocked.</div></div>
Well, yeah I'm a bit confused because I quoted you saying "<em>the players at 7-9 is not rated as high/higher than the range of 14-18 in this years draft</em>"
But all good, totally agree on this :

Not only Detroit apparently. I just read that "<em>the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Detroit Red Wings are on his preferred list of teams where he’d sign a long-term extension</em>"

But man, that's not much more than I'd pay for DeBrincat, who KC is much better than imo.

Was that really selling high though? He had 7 points in 45 games with us and was nowhere near the player he was in 2021-22 with Eriksson Ek and Foligno. He really wasn't the same since he hurt his shoulder in Ottawa. I think this was much more a case of taking advantage of a coach's love for a former player. Realistically, Don Granato (his USNTDP coach) in Buffalo and David Quinn (his BU coach) in San Jose would see the most value in adding Greenway despite all the flaws we were seeing. I'd be shocked if another team outside of those 2 would have paid that much for the Greenway we saw last season.

What I mean is that it’s a potentially catastrophic piece of asset management. Rossi for 17 would probably be a wash at best in terms of how good a player you get but you’d have to wait 4-5 years to see it rather than 1-2.
As for the Addison deal, I have a few posts above talking about what players like him go for in terms of trade value. Suggesting a mid-late 2nd a year away is unbearably poor asset management IMO.
I don’t mind decisive action but you need to leverage the assets you have rather than giving them away, which I think this return would be akin to.

Wings make a push with outs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CJ1909</b></div><div>I'd be fine with moving Bergy up to line 2 and Copp be 3C with Granlund as LW3. Copp was just a bad signing, he didn't show he was capable of handling 2C really ever in his career.
Thomson is more insurance in the RHD pipeline as Ruuta is on 2 years and could be rotated out. Myers only has 1 year left on his deal and I would take him as well, but his cap wouldn't work in this AGM cuz it's $6M.</div></div>
Personally I would like to sign Schenn to partner with Edvinsson.
Copp wasn't a bad signing, he had core muscle surgery and that's always tough to come back from. Also he missed all of training camp and preseason so he was just thrown right into it. But he is not a 2C in this league, 3C or 2LW would be best bet.

Wings make a push with outs
I wouldn't mind the Pittsburgh trade, just seems like alot. The only way I see Carter waiving is if they threaten to buy him out in which case they don't save cap space but open up a roster spot and actually face $1M in salary. For Carter, instead of getting $3M this year he will get $1M this year and $1M next year. So he might have incentive to waive host for the financial aspect of the situation, if they decide to go that route. It would be kind of a sleezy move but never know with the new management. I'm on the side of being okay adding Granlund at a discounted rate. Play him for the season and hope he plays better than he did with Pittsburgh, retain a bit more and likely get a second at the deadline. Rutta I'm really meh on, would rather someone better than him. I would like that pick that's for sure.
For the Nashville trade, take out the picks. Trust me I'm an expert on that trade. I know you want to send a bit of extra value but it's not worth it.
I would do the Toronto trade in a heart beati line Murray but can't be healthy. Would likely need to find a goalie that can clear waivers.
Honestly not that much of a fan of Addison and if you are adding Thomson he doesn't seem like he's needed as much. Foligno for a third is fine, be he would be a great add.
Honestly I wouldn't do this Debrincat trade. You just acquired a bunch of junk to move to the draft, make that pick. That player is likely a high end pick. If Debrincat really wants to be here than he will sign as a free agent or maybe trade the Boston first next year. Might have to add a bit more value though.
I wouldn't have Granlund as a centre, I would move Copp there and have one of those guys move up a line.
I agree with starting the kids in the AHL but getting them done time after the deadline or with injuries.

I'm aware of that, but I would say the penguins have one more legit year at trying to make a run.
Malkin and Letang will be 38 to start the 24-25 season and Sid will be 37. Imo next year is the year, so give me the extra $666K.
But like i said, Carts isn't waiving for Detroit anyways, and honestly think he retires this summer.

Wings make a push with outs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CJ1909</b></div><div>I hear you, but Carter and Granlund can be flipped at the deadline for playoff hungry teams. They both can play C and provide depth offense. I could live with it next year as it gives us assets to do other things instead of give up our current assets for those things and having nothing left. That extra 2nd and 4th basically get us Addison and Foligno so in theory it is totally worth it for a year to plug a huge hole at 3C, depth on the 4th line and much needed RD while we can take on cap.</div></div>
I understand adding assets but Yzerman is big on character and I think Carter hurts that. Granlund takes a roster spot from a kid who likely deserves it. I know we'd have to take these 2 players for the Pens to make these deals.
I like your creativity but there has to be a balance between stacking assets and competing for a playoff spot. Plus we need cap space down the road to at least give bridge deals to Seider and Raymond.

Gain Assets Build Depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CJ1909</b></div><div>I really like all the move here except signing Killorn (3 years) when we have Copp (4 years) that would be best to slide to 2LW and let Bergy be 3LW and have Perron move to 2RW and Zadina/Foligno to 3RW. Hoping that we can develop Sods, Kasper, Mazur and whomever we draft in 1st this year on the front end will be key in the next 2/3 years. Now would I rather have Killorn than Copp, yes, but that is not an option.
Need to remember that Raz, Ray and Mo next deals will have probably close to $14-16M in additional cap in 24-25.</div></div>
I added Killorn to replace the offence Kubalik brought, plus more. In all reality the lines could be any mix mash depending on chemistry. I just like the idea of Perron and Copp playing with Kasper. Not only is that a tough line to play against, they can really help shelter and mentor him. Berggren I want to get top six time to try and release some more offence from him.
When it comes to Soderblom and Mazur, plus whoever else we draft, I would be calling to those two first when injuries happen and if trades happen at the deadline then they would need to be brought up. 20-30 games in the NHL to see if they can hang would be ideal for me.
I put the extensions in the description. 33M in cap space and all those extensions I have add up to 28M. More than enough to find a back up goalie again and fill the rest with ELCs.

Use of Cap and Assets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CJ1909</b></div><div>I do believe that a Chiarot/Petry would actually work esp in the playoffs. Their styles match well together and they wouldn't try to skate too much thus getting them out of position as they would play more zone based coverage. We need a good RHD for 1/2 years to get us through the last 2/3 years of the rebuild that can bring solid vet presence and some more leadership for the plethora of prospects we are trying to develop, especially on the D side. Maata would need to be shipped out instead as the left side is now a wasted log jam with multiple years tied up and Simon needs to be playing.</div></div>
Maata is fine. Petry and Chiarot would be a disaster. Detroit needs a mobile RD. Maata was good for Hronek because both players relied on outlet passes, and both knew how to cover for the other. Seider and Walman can do that too, but they also love moving the puck themselves because they are awesome skaters. This is what separates good defensemen from great ones. Maata is great at the outlet pass, but he needs another outlet pass D. Maata is better than Chiarot at everything but shooting and toughness, which Detroit lacks. If Maata could figure out fusion with Chiarot, DragonBall Z style, we'd be left with a great defenseman.

100% agree. Kind of the same with Petry in Detroit. Thr trade proposed here really doesn't make a lot of sense for either team.
