I like it all but I think this needs a vet goalie…Hildeby can be the 3rd and can go up and down without waivers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Weird how all these other teams with similar prospect and pick pools added a bunch of good players and not bottom roster guys who wouldn't even make those rosters like treliving did.
But i guess good gms dont need excuses like treliving does</div></div>
GMs make their biggest mistakes at the trade deadline and July 1st Sometimes the best moves you make are the ones you don't
Dubas was busy everyyear for the Leaf's and what did that get him? The Leaf's went out and got everyone in the 90's and what they they end up with? This team is not Vegas, Florida, Boston or Colorado so I think it was smart not to get rid of the little assets you have if its not going to bring in a real difference maker

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Dubas did what every single GM of a good team does at the deadline, try and get better and fill weaknesses. Treliving threw away 6 picks for guys he didnt need that didnt make the team better so if he knew they werent going to compete then why waste picks like that? Why bring in old middling players that were at the bottom parts of bad rosters?
Dubas made some mistakes sure, but Treliving has been a bag of used diapers and the team has only gotten worse and worse the longer he's been here and the more moves he's made</div></div>
He did not move any assets of value and did improve the teams PK by adding Dewar and Edmundson. This team is good enough that if they get hot can win some rounds however not good enough to be considered a top contender for the cup.
Nothing Brad has done would be considered a huge mistake that has set the team back. Not sure how this team is weaker than last year. If you are comparing it to the team that went into the playoffs then yes but Brad did not have the same assets to trade then Dubas did

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>Edmundson and Dewar dont improve the PK though, the Wild have a significantly worse PK than the Leafs and Edmundson was the 2nd least trusted defender on the Caps for tough situations. These were utterly wasted assets for no gain. Edmundson just flat out stinks (so does Lybushkin) and Dewar is fine as a 4c, but the leafs already had a 4C that brad just signed to a massive extension so now they have two 4c's.
If you throw 4 bucks down the sewer you arnt suddenly poor but you wasted the 4 bucks.</div></div>
Its like buying a lottery ticket. Chances are you are not going to win the cup because of it. If it dose not work out you won't look back and think man I really wish they had that 5th round pick. but if you win a round or 2 because you had some depth or options then it was worth it

Because Dubas built this team on the fantasy that you can win with skill alone He left the cupboard bare
And now he's in Pitts and in a tough spot as they should rebuilt but can't because they have Sid so he will keep going forward like getting Karlsson etc

I really like this deal actually, Webber is a towering 6'6 LD whose skating and defensive abilities are the center points of his game. Locks it down very effectively in his own end, and I doubt we would've gotten someone better in the 6th round in 2 years time. Im going to assume Webber informed Carolina he wasn't going to sign there, thus the trade. This is a fantastic gamble for the Leafs

I know it's unpopular, but I really like Edmundson. Was very jealous when Montreal picked him up. He's dirt cheap and the exact kind of defenseman we need. Don't like the price, but I really like the fit

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad_Treliving</b></div><div>We used analytics for 5 years under Dubas, where did it take us?</div></div>
I completely agree. The small players with raw talent didn't work, a different strategy is worth it

Weren't you one of Dubas greatest critics on here when he was the Leafs GM for not making it past the first round?
If that's the case, it seems almost self-contradictory that the bar for success is now 5 playoff appearances.

Funny how when its the Leafs, its always a bad trade according to the comments...
Agree with or not, Treliving has a vision of how he wants the defence to look/play.
Seems puzzling, but then it becomes clear in the playoffs. Dude plays a playoff style. Simple as that.

Cowan could play for the Leafs but only after the London Knights are eliminated from the playoffs. I good assumption would be the Knights are going to have a longer playoff run than the Leafs.

Hanifan
Wow, why are these Flames Dmen such difference makers??? I really wonder what the market is for Hanifin. Florida has about the best defence in the league. Tampa probably isn't advancing much this season so why waste assets. Only true contender in the East that might want Hanifin are the Bruins. Leafs have a ton of LHD, and trading Brodie just subtracts a guy who often plays the right side.

I mean why not, there’s already some chemistry since Boosh played here before, it’s not a crazy price, and he comes in 75% retained. The 75% retention also screams another move.
So yah, fair deal

Listen , gudder isn't a savior AT ALL, but he's been great to have on the team in Columbus. Yes he's absolutely NOT worth his contract! But on a contenders team he would make for a solid 3rd pairing guy, PK minute eater and when the tough gets going he's Gunna run right at it. That type of guy helps the other players beable to concentrate on the what they do best.
But I highly doubt Columbus moves him until his last year.

I doubt JD is empowered to move players with term. Hes going to be gone in the offseason and it will be up to the new GM to determine who stays and who goes. At the TDL we will be just moving the expiring guys like Roslovic.
