Most Sabre fans were insisting that either Caufield or Suzuki be part of the deal.
It is not much different than the Vegas trade.
Do you think Buffalo says no so they do not have to play against MTL? Or do you think the Canadians would have needed to add more?
<a href="/users/vr1995" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@vr1995</a> in September, Buffalo fans wanted Caufield, most MTL fans thought Drouin was a bust.

I think it a good deal for both teams.
Jack will be back in 8 tp12 weeks, the Sharks keep their offensive corpse and Miller can play RHD filling in for Burns.
Buffalo gets 2 firsts, a good RHD to play with Dahlin and a good RHD prospect.
While Buffalo does not have great offensive weapons, they have 12 goals in 3 games and scored 5 goals twice this year one more than they did in the teams last 13 games in 2020-2021.

I do not know why I looked back at this, but this is beyond a doubt one of the best most civil conversations I ever had on Cap Friendly.
Thank you for a great conversation.
I think in retrospect, Buffalo will end up with a small return.
You are correct this is a small return, and Buffalo will most likely get even less than this.
Let me close, I think Boston GK just may match up really well against Tampa's.
Swayman rocked the 10 games he was with Boston last year and over his career Ullmark has been really good at stopping the longer shots.
The Boston defense will clear the rebounds and give him a clear look at the longer shots.
Buffalo buggered by letting Ullmark walk.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shibbal18</b></div><div>I believe Tampa traded for Seabrook for a reason</div></div> It should be obvious.
They moved Johnson's salary for only a 2nd and could put Seabrook on LTIR.
They made $5,000,000 of cap space and only had to give up a second.
While Johnson is over paid, he is a valuable part to Chicago making the playoffs one more time.
This is only one of the really good moves Bowman this off season to improve the team.
Seth Jones, Caleb Jones, Fleury, McCabe all should reduce the GA and Johnson helps the offence.
He was a magician IMO.

First, Olofsson is not the only part of the trade, Buffalo is also taking over $6,000,000 of cap.
I know one will say that he will be put on LTIR, but that means the Bolts will not have any space to pick up a spare part at the TDL.
Second, Olofsson had nearly 10% of all of Buffalo's goals, that is higher percentage than any current Bolt scored last year.
Third, I know this is hard to believe but Victor also had more assists than ANY other Sabre, playing on a team that had nearly on goal less per game than the Bolts.
Fourth, that precious first round pick could easily be the 32nd again, not much to pay for a forward who has 35 goals in his first 116 NHL goals.
Finally, While many responded Olofsson is not needed, most Bolt AVGM thought it was too much while all the Sabres thought taking on Seabrook alone was worth a first round pick.
I think after listening to the comments from both sides, Buffalo is losing this trade badly, giving up goals while taking on salary. Tampa wins easily dumping salary while picking up goals for only a late first.

Sweeny says I want Jack Eichel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>That top 9 would be as good as any in the league.
As far as TB goes, the problem is they have the best goalie in the league and probably the best d corp in the league in front of him. Still much better team.
You keep talking about 2 years from now and windows . You have no idea what 2 years from now will bring. 2 years ago did you think Hall would be a Bruin and DK, Krug, and Rask would not? What if Barkov does not extend and tests FA and Boston signs him without giving up an asset to do it? Or they land a pair of quality free agents? What if Studnicka, Beecher, Lauko, Harrison exceed expectations? You act like everyone that could potentially leave won’t be replaced and there will just be a giant hole in the roster. Players come and go all the time.
Funny thing about windows…they close. Can’t keep them open forever. Sometimes the harder you try the more damage you do.
Bottom line. Buffalo does not take this. Lysell a late 1st a bunch of mediocre pieces and a cap dump is not that interesting to them. And under the current set of circumstances Boston should not do it. 🤷🏻♂️</div></div> I see your point.
No one can predict the future, but IMO it pretty obvious that Krug would leave, Rask IMO started to lose it when the Blues won 3 games in Boston (in Boston!), and DK is the same vintage as Bergeron.
But you make a very good point that Boston is not giving up as much as other teams, but it is a decent offer.
In reality, Buffalo would be crazy to accept this offer.
<strong>But we can look at the bright side.
</strong>Go to https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_report.php?pos=Goalies&team=ALL&rookie=All&mingp=020&period=2020-2021%3AR&startdate=&enddate=&report=Avg+Shot+Dist&reportdata_length=30
Boston defense knows how to prevent the dangerous shots, see how TR has the highest average shot distance.
Next go to: 2021 https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_report.php?pos=Goalies&team=ALL&rookie=All&mingp=020&period=2020-2021%3AR&startdate=&enddate=&report=Shots+31%2Bft&reportdata_length=30 Ullmark had a top ten SV% on shots over 31 feet.
Even better go to https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_report.php?pos=Goalies&team=ALL&rookie=All&mingp=020&period=2019-2020%3AR&startdate=&enddate=&report=Shots+31%2Bft&reportdata_length=30 in 2019-'20 Ullmark had the second best SV% on shots beyond 30 feet.
Add together how Boston prevents dangerous shots, and how well Ullmark can stop them, we may be looking at the best GK in Boston next year.
Adding Eichel would really frost the Buffalo fans to lose Eichel and Ullmark to the 2022 Stanley Cup Champions.
It could happen especially with Eichel playing for his home town team.

<strong>Fine LW3 if you wish. that does not change what I said, he is added to make up for the salary dumps of Wagner and Moore. Can you not agree to anything? I said he had value! Is it against your nature to agree with anything? </strong>
The rest of that statement is mostly garbage.
<strong>No it is not garbage, seven assets that have low value is a fact that you have to argue against.
The recommended treatment of a herniated neck disc is rehabilitation and pain medication, that is a fact not garbage.
I guess it must also be garbage that I agreed with you that Jack would most likely go to Montreal?</strong>
Also…Eichel is good…not God. Yes point a game centers do not grow on trees. But he’s below average defensively and at the faceoff circle, has a bit of selfishness, questions about his character. Clearly does not work well with Hall who would be paired with again.
<strong>Well he should not be with Hall and that was stupidity on Krueger. They are both playmakers, then to add Reinhart to that line was insane.
Maybe Boston makes a third line like Pittsburg with Kessel.
Put Eichel on the line with Ritchie and Smith. As well as they played last year, Eichel will make them better.
Hall can carry his own line with Coyle at center.
I think his defense had improved dramatically, you may be correct on the selfishness (this whole herniated disc is an example), certainly correct about faceoffs.</strong>
Let’s stop acting like he’s a top 5 center and top 10 player in the league. He isn’t. There are 4 guys on the B’s alone that i’d rather have as a GM and that is just 1 team.
<strong><strong>In two years two of them are gone. The window is closing. Boston is not giving up pure gold here to get a pt/gm center who makes his wingers look better.</strong></strong>
There are other options that come with far less risk, less cost.</div></div>
Marchand Bergeron Pasternak
Haula Eichel Smith
Hall Coyle Foligno

Beyond that…it’s 7 assets for a guy who may never play again. 🤷🏻♂️ If he does he may never be the same. And a 10m cap hit with Bergy, Mac, Rask to sign for next year and Pasta after that.
<strong>Seven assets, Buffalo offers Kyle Okposo, Jeff Skinner (40 goal season on his resume), Colin Miller, Arttu Ruotsalainen (more goals and pts than Studnicka), Ryan Johnson (first round pick), Erik Portillo (awarded the USHL’s Goaltender of the Year award after posting a .915 save percentage in his rookie year.) and 2022 2nd round pick for Pasternak.
You cannot be serious to say Moore and Wagner are assets. Buffalo may be willing retain but I think Boston would need to add.</strong>
Not saying it’s an overpay….it isn’t. It’s just a bad idea until after he’s had the surgery and see where he’s at.
<strong>Here is the deal, please read was is the recommend treatment for a herniated neck disc. Rehabilitation and pain medication.
It is Jack's surgeon who thinks surgery should be performed.</strong>
I think he ends up in Montreal at this point. They let KK walk, dump Drouin, and trade for Eichel.
<strong>You could be correct, from what I have seen on this site, the offers are better than this.

Here is how I see the trade:
Moore and Wagner are cap casualties and DeBrusk is added for cap reduction as well but as payment for taking Moore and Wagner.
Lysell, is the most valuable asset going to Buffalo. He could be in the NHL in two years.
Studnicka, was drafted four years ago and has 22 games and 4 NHL points under his belt.
Contrast that with Mittelstadt who was drafted the same year who has 155 games and 61 points and Kotkaniemi who was drafted a year later than Studnicka and he has 171 NHL games and 62 points.
Are we suppose to believe that he will be as good as either of them?
Vaakanainen, has yet to break into the Bruin line up was also drafted in 2017.
Miller, Carlo, Kampfer , Clifton, Reilly, Lauzon, Zboril all play ahead of him, how many of them are marginal NHL defensemen?
2022 1st round pick (BOS) hopefully will be the last pick of the first round.
The way I view this trade, Boston is giving up three cap dumps (maybe DeBrusk will turn it around but on the depth chart he is Boston's 4th LW)-
One decent not great prospect, two 22 yo prospects (who may never be regular NHL players) and a very late first round pick.
How much longer will 33 yo Marchand and 36 yo Bergeron be in the NHL?
The window is getting smaller, get Jack now and the Bruins will have 6 good top forwards, the three mentioned with Hall, Ritchie, and Pasternak.

Hall and Eichel
<strong>Monahan</strong>, good top line center certainly not in the Eichel category
Bennett, his production has really dropped off the last two years, IMO does not add any value to the trade as Buffalo has many bottom 6 forwards.
<strong>Kylington</strong>, LHD Buffalo could use him for depth purposes.
<strong>Zary</strong>, IMO a solid piece of this transaction. He could be in the NHL in two years
Parsons, decent GK prospect. Buffalo has a couple of good ones so this does not add much to the trade.
<strong>Giordano</strong>, Solid veteran LHD still producing with only 2 years remaining on his contract.
<strong>2021 1st round pick (CGY)
2023 1st round pick (CGY)
</strong>
I put in bold the key pieces.
While Monahan will never make any one forget about Jack he is solid.
Giordano may be just the defenseman who could help our young blueliners develop.
Three good pieces for the future Zary, 2021 1st round pick (CGY) and 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
While I am not inclined to trade an all star center, the Sabres are spinning their wheels the last five years. I would bite the bullet and make this trade.
What about: Eichel and Miller for Monahan, Hanifin, 2021 and 2022 first round picks?

But no, the trade itself isnt bad valuewise by any means for the Sabres, they just might not like it, which is its own story</div></div>
I completely agree with every single comment you made above as well.
While a signed Krug and Pasternak is close to fair, adding Krejci while taking on Okposo tilts the scales totally toward the Sabres.
IDK what Sabre fans are missing, I really think when they see an Eichel trade they automatically say no.
Regardless, I am happy at least one person saw that the value exchange greatly favored Buffalo.
Just had a thought, Buffalo gives Boston first round picks from 2020 and 2021 instead of all of the picks from 2020, then at the TDL Boston wants to get Krejci back and gives them the 2021 pick. LOL of course it would never happen, it would reek of collusion but what a delicious idea of keeping Boston under that cap.

I am not surprised at how many Sabre fans thought this deal was trash, But they get most of their opinions from the local news and rarely watch a game.
Boston makes this trade to get a top five NHL center. IMO it is a HUGE over payment.
Buffalo makes this deal to get to the playoffs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DiehardRedWingsFan58</b></div><div>If Krug were willing to sign with Buffalo for 7 years $49 million he'd just stay with Boston. All reports are Krug wants 6 years at around $49 million or so or around $8.1 million per. Krug isn't leaving Boston for buffalo he'll come home to Detroit before he even thinks about Buffalo.</div></div>
I meant Boston signed then traded him.
TBH, when I see some of these comments they mean nothing other than they do not like the trade.
From what vantage point do they not like the trade?

What if Krug was signed for 7 at $7,000,000
I sort of viewed the picks and Okposo for Kreji, then he could be flipped at the TDL for a first?
Then Eichel for Pasta and Krug.
Tell me more if you can.

RHD for Hanifin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurnEmUp</b></div><div>I can't believe Miller and Hanifin are being compared like they are really close in value, but let's say they are and that Pilut opts out of the KHL and this becomes a huge "win" for the Flames because of it, now what do they do in the expansion draft? I assume Pilut is not exempt correct? If he and Miller are as good as people are saying then the Flames would certainly lose one in the expansion draft unless they left their captain unprotected, in which case they lose him and in the end the whole debacle is a loss for the Flames really.</div></div>
OK, let's say they do not make the trade.
Who do they protect?
Giordano, Hanifin, Andersson or Brodie?
If Pilut can demonstrate his offensive skills in the NHL, then the Flames would have either one of them.

RHD for Hanifin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KakkoForMauriceRichardAward</b></div><div>BUF says thx a lot and runs away with the steal</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DiehardRedWingsFan58</b></div><div>Pretty sure that Pilut has signed a 2 year deal to play in the KHL.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>I'd say it's Hanifin's contract length that makes this stealish. In terms of short-term on-ice value. Hanifin and Miller aren't very far apart. Hanifin brings more offense, Miller brings more defense. I think the bigger issue is that the Sabres prospect pool is so trash that there's really no one they can send in this deal (because of the massive gap between Cozens and the next guy) that would make this work. So they'd have to send like a 2nd.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>I think that Buffalontakes that trade but it is by no means a steal. Hanafin is a very similar player to Miller. He tends to get overrated because of where he was drafted. He had a very good year in 18-19, but the rest of his career he has been a below average 2nd pair defenseman without alot of physical abilities but not very good underlying numbers</div></div>

I think Miller and Hanifin are close, but Hanifin gets the nod.
Buffalo and Calgary makes the trade to balance LHD and RHD.
If Pilut opt out of the KHL contract, this is actually a huge win for Calgary.
While Pilut was not given the chance to display his offensive talents in Buffalo, he won the Salming award and was an AHL All Star.
But good discussion thanks for your input, maybe both teams would say no.
Buffalo may want to trade Miller for a center.

Lots of interesting feed back.
It appears no one thinks the Knights would say no.
Vegas makes this trade to get younger, shed Stastny’s cap and give them a top line RW.
Buffalo makes this trade to get an interim #2 center to allow Cozens to develop.
I would imagine if Tuch or Glass and second replaced Hague and a first, Adams would make that trade.
Thanks for your input.
