It would be hard for me to believe that a playoff team who needs a LHF would not give up a first for Olofsson as it would be later in the round.
Casey on the other hand does not score enough to be a 2nd line center and does not play a physical game to be a third line center.
Some team may take a chance on him, a second would be his ceiling.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nhldeadline2</b></div><div>I may have missed/messed up some of the math on the cap space, so let me know. Going to make '23-24 and '24-25 posts with these same deals to see if it checks out on paper</div></div> First of all, you laid out the cap projection perfectly and in an easy to understand manner.
Second, it has been three years since the Sabres traded a draft pick for a player. They may start if they think another piece to the puzzle to win the cup, but not to add a player for 20 regular season games.
Third the only player I would add from your list of trades would be Schenn, but I would not trade Jokiharju.
I do not notice him in a game to assess if he is any good, is the best comment about Henri. IMO that makes him a very steady if unspectacular defenseman.
Add a solid RHD physical defenseman, let's keep the picks to throw darts at possible RHD.
We have too many hole to fill, to be a cup contender.
Adding players who will walk at the end of the season for draft picks does not make any sense at the present time.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fjordy</b></div><div>I don't know why we need so many veterans. Add one defenseman and one forward. I am satisfied with Jost and Krebs like ours 3C/4C.</div></div> Completely agree.
<strong>Jost</strong> is this years Curtis Lazar only better.
Picking up young former first round picks either as a UFA or waiver wire is a smart move IMO.
<strong>Krebs</strong> seems to play his best hockey with Girgensons and Okposo.
They are excellent forecheckers, keeping the puck out of the defensive zone and frustrating the other team

<a href="/users/Hawksguy81" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Hawksguy81</a> you are correct.
I copied the trade which only received one comment from a Hawk ACGM.
If Buffalo could make those trade, they would have a much better chance of reaching the playoffs.
Upgrade the third line and RHD, just what the team needs.
Jost could be taken out of the Florida trade by substituting a different roster player or prospect.

Mitts I'd love to deal away for a RHD or just sit him in the press box. No interest in acquiring bottom 6 wingers, which is what Pul and Foegele are. Yes I'd like us to be more physical, but I'd want players that contribute on both ends of the ice (guys like Marcus Foligno, Miles Wood, Will Carrier etc.). I'd just wait until the offseason and try to sign or trade for a winger or two like that.</div></div> Well here are the life time stats of Foligno, Carrier and Foegele, prorated over 82 games, not necessarily in that order:
14 goals, 13 assists, 27 pts
11 goals, 10 assists, 21 pts
13 goals, 17 assists, 30 pts
Can you guess the order?
Who is Foligno, Carrier or Foegele?
Well Foligno has most assists, Foegele has most goals, Carrier last in both.
Foligno, Carrier and Foegele hits are 13.5, 12.2, 9.6 hits/60 this year respectively.
So please tell me again why you do not want Foegele?
TBH, you just talked yourself into liking this trade, as Foegele does exactly what you want score goals and hits.
<strong>EDIT</strong>
Maybe it it better to trade Olofsson now to get a first round in a strong draft, but I get your point.
With 6 picks in the first two rounds, Karmanos should be able to do some magical deals and Jeramiah Crowe draft deftly.

Let's look at the trade differently.
The Olofsson retention keeps the caps essential equal for this year and next.
Buffalo is getting a first and a second for "a multiple time 20-goal scorer" and a third line center.
Getting "a guy who hits more, a reclamation project, and a goalie" a year younger than Anderson is filling in pieces to the line up until the next wave of prospects are ready to take the ice.
The Sabres need to cut down on the goals against, this trade moves the two worse +/- forwards and replaces them with a defensive minded Puljujarvi and a hard hitting third line forward.
Maybe having a third and fourth line that can keep the puck out the net will not help the won loss record, but the two picks should help in the future.
Smith is probably "ten minutes from retiring" because the Oiler's did not want him to pass the physical. He actually played very well last year posting a 2.81 GAA 16 wins 9 losses 2 OTL and a 0.915 SV%. Better than Anderson last year.
Having two 40 yo GK only hurts when the team plays 3 games in 4 nights, then a GK only gets two days of rest, playing every other night they would get 3 days to recover.
Well that is my take, Olofsson and Mittelstadt <strong>WILL BE </strong>replaced by prospects next year or the year after.
Getting a first and a second in a deep draft would be good asset management.
While Casey's and Victor's replacements do not have the same offensive skills. they may be more helpful to the Sabres winning more games.
Regardless this is all for fun and none of this will ever happen

18 yo are supposed to be over powered by 26 yo players yet he is doing very well in Rochester.
If Rosen can bulk up a bit more and Savoie jump from Juniors to the NHL it is obvious that Casey and Victor are not needed at all.
They tie up Cozens and Dahlin for the next 8 years, sign an couple of UFA RHD it could be interesting.
BTW, I am posting the above trade from the the Sabres POV, let's see what the Oiler fans think of it.
EDIT:
The Penguins certainly showed the Sabres how to play hockey.

Yes of course the Sabres will have Kulich, Savoie, and more next year in the line up.
The trade was changed as you can see now.
I was thinking this trade would be made soon to try to salvage this season.
Smith contract expires at the end of the season, while Foegele, could take Girgensons spot in the line up next year and Puljujärvi could replace Hinostroza.

Interesting not a single comment from the Oiler ACGM's.
Nearly every Sabre ACGM's want to to add grit, defensive forwards while moving away from Mittelstadt, and Olofsson
Foegele, would be the top hitter among all Sabre forwards with 9.6 and 9.7 hits per min respectively.
In comparison Girgensons and Okposo are Buffalos top hitters at 5.0 and 4.4 hits/min.
Puljujärvi is noted as a defensive forward along with Foegele have positive 50.4 CF%.
Mike Smith failed the Oiler physical to start the year, I think he could pass the Sabre physical and join Anderson as the oldest GK pair ever in the NHL
Klefbom is not needed other than to balance the cap and rosters.
So take him and Fitzgerald out of the trade.
Buffalo moves three players who nearly every Sabre ACGM would like to move, get two more good picks while adding toughness and a possible GK.

While Dahlin is probably untouchable your suggested return is silly.

Yamomoto and Barrie Who says no and why
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilersguy</b></div><div>fine we don't need to trade for Olofsson the guy is the same as Barrie, he only ever produces on the pp. If they wanted him Holland could just trade a 4th or 5th for Pysyk <strong>From other posts, Oiler fans were trading Barrie for a second and Yamamoto and a second for Olofsson.
I combined the two thoughts and added Pysyk to Edmonton.
Sort of Barrie = Second and Yamamoto + second = Olofsson,
combine the two Barrie + Yamamoto + second = Olofsson + second.
Drop the two seconds and add Pysyk to consider the value of the two seconds.
The result is this trade.
BTW Olofsson only has 1 PPG this year yet is on pace to another good season.
I appreciate your comments.</strong></div></div>

Continuation of Wishful Thinking
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KDow88</b></div><div>It's not a bad offer, I just don't see Edmonton dealing their 1st unless they are getting a goalie, and dealing Koskinen in the process.. And I really don't think they'll do Barrie dirty like that and send him to a rebuild in Buffalo when he kind of took a discount to stay in Edmonton, nothing against Buffalo, they look significantly better than last year, but just don't see them as a playoff team this next, or the year after yet..</div></div> I am not the Buffalo Sabres GM (I am sure that is good thing), Let's make it Olofsson, Pysyk, and Hagg for Yamamoto, Barrie and 2022 2nd.
I know nearly all Buffalo ACGM are in love with Olofsson, but the Sabres have many options at LW but ONLY Tuch at RW and only Jokiharju at RHD.
As I said most Sabres fan hated the Barrie and Yamamoto trade.
Most Sabre fans would accept Olofsson being traded for a RHD, I do not know if they would want Barrie.
TBH with you, at the end of the day, if the second was not included, Buffalo would still be a better team with Yamamoto and Barrie, please do not tell any of the other Sabre ACGM's I said that.
Finally, you are correct Buffalo is moving in the right direction so Barrie could be part of that movement.

Continuation of Wishful Thinking
Yamamoto for Olofsson seems to be an interesting deal as Buffalo adds a RH RW and trades a LW where they have other options.
I think Edmonton would need to add more than a 3rd to consummate the deal as Olofsson's production (135 games, 38 goals, 93 pts) is significantly better than Yamamoto (112 games, 26 goals, 58 pts) over the past three years.
I made a trade Pysyk and Hagg for Barrie.
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/540467?post_id=2872550
Most Sabre fans hated it.
They are used as Buffalo's shut down pairing which could be an interesting option.
Olofsson, Pysyk, Hagg and 2023 2nd for Yamamoto, Barrie and 2022 1st.
Probably favors Buffalo but it would be interesting.

Trouba waives his NTC

Of course Trouba would never waive to go to Buffalo, this site is just a toned down fantasy league in which we <strong>pretend </strong>to know what we are doing.
Since the replies range from <a href="/users/delneggs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@delneggs</a> "Pure nonsense. Trouba could be the Rangers next captain." to <a href="/users/Sabresforlife" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Sabresforlife</a> "I'd be interested" to <a href="/users/OldNYIfan" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@OldNYIfan</a> "right after the Rangers agree to pay a first and second to send him away"
Sort of Goldilocks, not nearly enough for Trouba to just right to way over pay.
Since I posted this I thought it was in the middle and maybe the Sabres would add a little
Trouba is only 17 months older than Olofsson their vintages are about the same.
I thought Olofsson was worth a little more than a first, while the Rangers would add a LW and save on the cap.

What Bergevin should have done 2021-Sep-04
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ColonelX</b></div><div>You'll get use to it, people are very shortsighted here and always think everyone else is in the wrongdoing. Flashnews; Nobody knows more than one another here, we're just wankers pretending to be important.</div></div> I agree.
I try to listen to other ideas to help me to understand teams needs and value of players.
As I said, at the time, I felt Bergevin may try harder to get Eichel, instead he opted for the cheap alternative.
Today, Caufield, MTL 2022 first, CAR 2022 first, Drouin, Poehling, Tuch and Byron may not appear to be too much.
I think Buffalo would have said yes to that offer, but who knows as you corrected pointed out.
Most important, if Bergevin had over paid for Eichel, Jake would be in the NHL next month.

You are all correct that the offer from Vegas is better than this one.
Remember this post was presuming Bergevin and Buffalo were dealing in September, not 10 games into the season.
So put yourself into a time machine consider what could have been offered!
So the purpose of the post was to demonstrate that Dvorak was the wrong center to add and MTL had the assets to make the trade.
I was hoping that most responders would offer suggestions rather than just a categorical no.
I think during the offseason most Sabre fans would have wanted Caufield over Krebs as Cole had just completed and excellent playoff.
Tuch is certainly the best player as he wants to play in Buffalo.
On the other hand trading Suzuki for Jack would not have made any sense for the Canadians, who would have played center for MTL for the first two months?
So the answers I was hoping to receive were centered more on what else needed to be offered.
