Really. Your dissing a true 3C who plays in all situations, is physical, has speed, plays with pace and wears a letter under one of the toughest coaches in the league inTorts, because of pretty graphs and bar charts?

I'd take Laughton as 3C. Seems like a perfect role for him in Buffalo.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chapee44</b></div><div>Marner is 5 years younger than Jeff and I think we're gonna see the fall off in Jeff's game sooner than later. Marner and Thompson would be electric. Marner is also quite responsible defensively where Jeff isn't at all.</div></div>
Thompson had 47 goals and 94 points playing with Skinner and Tuch in 2022-23.
This season every one of those guys suffered injuries that hampered their play. I'm not saying Skinner is a Selke candidate, nor am I willing to say that his production won't drop off. However, Skinner's PDO isn't that far off of Marner's and his style of play will allow him to be in that 25-goal area for a few more seasons.
Skinner had an off year this year, as every Sabres player not named JJ Peterka had, and even so he managed 24 goals.
An extra $3M for Marner for two seasons after next as a Skinner's replacement and $12M for six more seasons for a winger just doesn't make sense to me. At least not a winger that's more of an assist-guy that can play good defense.

Jeff Skinner has scored 92 goals and has averaged 32.4 goals/82 games over the last three seasons.

I don't get this trade. I like Marner and think he's a helluva talent. But, you're paying $2-3M more to Marner over the next three seasons for what amounts to a player who will be a $12M set-up guy.
Over the past three seasons, Marner's 33.7 goals/82 games is only slightly better than Skinner's 32.4 g/82.

I think the Sabres really like Wahlberg. He's a power forward with real good size, lots of skill and goes to the dirty areas without hesitation.
Those are attributes lacking on their current roster.
And that's nothing against Zegras and his obvious skill level

We just traded away Okposo, who was our Captain
Why would we wanna bring in ANOTHER old, declining, expensive bottom6 forward ?
Rhetorical question
We wouldn’t</div></div>
I'd take Smith for a conditional third-rounder if they retain at least $2M.
Three million for a bottom-six/(possible) mid-six grizzled vet winger with 35-50 point potential is not bad at all. In fact, I'd say that he would be pretty attractive to a veteran head coach too.
Of course like you said, it wouldn't work if they go young (Kulich) in a third line role.

I really like Konecny. However, that trade looks more like a trade-deadline deal that a Cup-contender would propose.
One year 'til UFA doesn't do it for me and planning on any high-quality player re-signing in Buffalo isn't the best plan at this juncture.

Minor detail, switch the picks to a 2024 third and a 2025 second and I'm in for at least two years of Laughton as Buffalo's 3C.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AntiAnalytics</b></div><div>Krebs was also a 1st round pick who was a major piece of the Eichel trade
You know confidence plays a role in performance
And i believe it’s reasonable to think u can’t just flip the switch so easily to go from playing that defensive Center role to a completely different one at 3C
I don’t love Krebs
And I’m not arguing he SHOULD be the 3C next year
But unless we bring someone in, he’s most likely to get first shot at it
So yes, as of now, Krebs is our 3C
And if he’s moved, that’s a hole in our lineup that will need to be replaced
And making major lineup moves- or even ANY lineup moves- just doesn’t happen as easily in real life as it does with impatient fans on this site</div></div>
You are right, however, moving both of Joker and Krebs would create holes

Also, i didn’t JUST say zero chance
I explained why that trade doesn’t make sense for us
Sorry, but we aren’t looking to move those guys
And u don’t have what we’d want anyways</div></div>
I don't get where Krebs is slotted as 3C. I guess I'd they do nothing he has a chance but he showed very little the last month or so while slotted there.

I don't see that. Joker's a RHD, which is always in demand, and being a 4/5 d-man that can play up (in a pinch) and down the lineup increases his value. Krebs is a solid fourth-liner with bottom-six potential.

I know nothing of Alexandrov but compete and physicality are probably pretty high on Buffalo's list of player attributes and according to the report, he's lacking that.

I find it hard to believe he'd sign an extension in Buffalo. There's really no incentive save for a heavy overpayment.
Colton gives the same production for $4M and change and is already signed for three more years.
Plus two Cups ta boot.
Pretty easy for me.
