Offseason
I like Giovanni Smith in a reserve role and Sturm as a 4C, but I think SJS would need to up that pick to a second. Greenway is a bottom-six/4th line forward while Krebs is a 4C who still has bottom six potential.

And we already have to pay Byram, Quinn & Peterka after next year- we aren’t gonna bring in ANOTHER guy who needs a big contract, we just don’t have the room</div></div>
That's why I'm baffled as to the reports that Kyv is looking for a top-six forward.

Good post, although this would be the type of trade a contender would make at the deadline, even with Krebs in and Novikov out.

Am of the opinion that STL and BUF are not good trading partners at this time. That said, Buch at $2.9M is very tempting. Could put him on the right side with Tuch and Quinn for a bangin' set of six wingers in the top-nine.

Honest question, Cainiacs.
If the Canes go down in, say 5 or 6, is Rod the Bod toast in Carolina?

So you can either use that 10 mil cap space on Tavares or Terrys boat fund.

Got it.
I was actually talking cap-hit. One thing to take into consideration is the $2.5M in potential (probable?) bonuses that would put the Sabres over the cap with a penalty (I believe) coming the following season.

Where does Marner Go
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>I genuinely believe if Sabres ownership wasn’t bleeding financially they’d be all over making a huge splash for marner.
Aside from his full no trade, that’s the major obstacle imo. I’m not sure how they give him the contract he wants.
The other concern is even if they could/would meet contract demands, how does the locker room react to him making so much more than guys like Tage? There’s a reason the devils held firm on not paying Meier and Bratt so much more than Hughes. Sabres did this once before and it burned them.
In a different world this is a spicy idea and good for all things rivalry related. Alas, in this one it’s unlikely to come to pass.</div></div>
Not sure they'd be interested in paying $10-11M for a winger who is more of a set-up guy than scorer, albeit a pretty good scorer. Look at how much unwarranted grief Skinner is getting for his $9M contract, one he signed at the same age as Marner with more goal scoring credentials (second to Stammer in goals/60 [min. 550 games] and 5th in EVG behind Ovie, JT, P. Kane, Stammer [min 550 games.] Those nine seasons feature one 40-goal season and three 30-goals seasons including a Calder Trophy-winning campaign with 31 goals and 32 assists.
Sabreland is hating on Skinner who post soccer idiot is second in goals (92,) first in EVG (71) and is only 0.02 goals/60 behind Tage.

From The Hockey News:
"The fans have turned on a player who missed a check on David Pastrnak's OT winner, who doesn't change his game for the playoffs, who whines and complains when things aren't going his way. "
That type of player is the last thing that Buffalo needs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesReport18</b></div><div>It says in the description that in any Buch trade he would have to sign an extension. Obviously this trade wouldn't happen if he was just a rental.</div></div>
Point taken, however I usually don't read such long descriptions. Secondly, I really don't think the Sabres' main focus is on a top-six/top-line winger (although the favorable deal might be tempting) and like Woj said, the Sabres are pretty high on Komarov, a good-sized, RHD whose two-way game is developing nicely. And he was just named QMJHL defensive player of the year.

I don't think the Sabres and Blues are good trade partners at this point. Nothing against Buchnevich but I don't think a rental is in their thought process.
And much to the dismay of some in Sabreland, I find it hard to believe their focus will be on a top-six forward as their real weakness was at 3C and fourth line.
