Maybe not at the beginning of the season but I imagine he will be in NHL by next year's playoffs. Considering the rate Pittsburgh gets injured every year and the fact that he already has some NHL experience, I bet he'll be pretty high up on the call up list.

Needing to Trade MF
I wouldn't be surprised to see Schultz get 5 mil range but 8 years is crazy. I really do like Stephen Johns but Pens would need to get a goalie in return in order to protect Murray. Expansion draft is shaping up to be a pretty bad "lose-lose" situation for the Pens since they didn't trade Fleury at the deadline.

Pens Playoff Combos
I like the forwards. Wilson-Rowney-Archibald has actually been solid but if Hagelin is healthy enough this makes the most sense. I'd switch the D pairings a bit though. Keep Schultz & Cole together, Dumo with maybe Daley, and Maatta & Hainsey. I agree with the 6 you chose, just different pairings.

Every single one of those returns are too low but the Murray to Flames is definitely the worst

You do realize that you are not actually trading Schultz for a high 1st? You are trading the rights to sign Schultz before the July 1 UFA period begins

That NMC is costly right now. You are better off to buy him out and take the cap hit from that.</div></div>
What goalie brings in fans better than Fleury in the short term? For Fleury, it's an opportunity to continue to be a fan favorite (albeit in a new city), while also being a #1 goalie in the NHL. It's abundantly obvious he doesn't love the situation in Pittsburgh and his play has suffered as a direct result. For Vegas, he fills the seats and provides a veteran presence to what will be a young team. He can be their #1, locked up just long enough for their prospects to develop. Not to mention that Vegas will need to take on salary in some way to meet their base requirement.
Rutherford just has to give Fleury the ultimatum: get bought out and make the process ugly, or choose to go to a city that needs his services and be a star on a new team.</div></div>
I think the issue isn't whether Fleury would be willing to waive as much as why Vegas would take him when they could likely take a young unprotected forward like Wilson or Rust or a d-man like Maatta (if they resign and protect Schultz) instead

GMJR for GM of the Year 2018
Marleau would be cool if he came cheaper than 4.75M. Pass on Jumbo. Nothing but respect for him as a player but big and slow doesn't work in Pittsburgh's system. That bottom D-pairing just isn't feasible. Maybe Ruhwedel. He's over performed expectations during his time in PIT. Bengtsson definitely won't be NHL ready next season. Hopefully he will be AHL ready, due to his ongoing health concerns. Hence, trading Maatta without signing any other d-men just doesn't work.

Sprong Show
Top 6 middle 6 bottom 6 it really doesn't matter when you are talking about Pittsburgh. On any given stretch of games (or even on a nightly basis) Sully will give ice time to the players most deserving of it. If Sprong earns NHL minutes right off the bat, then great, but if he has to spend half the season developing in WB thats fine too. One of if not the best player development systems in the NHL

If they don't repeat this year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Orionus</b></div><div>Why would Arizona make that trade?
Malkin doesn't make them cup contenders, and that's a thunderous amount of assets - particularly considering they could probably get Duchene+ with those same assets.</div></div>
Arizona would make that trade because it would be an insanely good value to get one of the most prolific scorers in the game (plus a nice depth player in Wilson). When 71 is dialed in (like he has been for the past few weeks) he is as good as anyone in the NHL, Sid included. I mean, the guy has a legit shot at the Art Ross this year even though he missed a decent sized chunk of games. Over point per game every single season in his entire career except for the year he tore his MCL & ACL. I'm seriously curious what the logic is behind "Duchene is more valuable than Malkin"

My Take on a Rebuild
As a Pens fan, I'd rather buy out Fleury at the end of the season than give up a 1st for an expensive goalie they don't need, a vet that failed miserably in his first stint with the team, and 2 4ths.

You're probably right about Calgary. I'm just wishfully going with those rumors that they were interested. As for the other trade, I can't imagine Pouliot really has any value aside from being a flashy idea for a reclamation project for some team that didn't do their homework on him. Ruhwedel is a legitimately decent player, but if Steve Oleksy is getting the call up first then it's pretty clear how highly Pittsburgh thinks of Pouliot. He will probably never see another NHL game again in Pittsburgh and they might not even give him a qualifying offer at the end of the season. That being said, I guess if anyone could pull off swapping him straight up for a decent rental, it'd be Rutherford.</div></div>
What! He is 22yo!
For all the posts talking about how great Manson is in Anaheim not many discussing that he is finally an NHL Defenseman at 25 years old. Dumoulin was awful in his NHL time until he finally settled in at 24.
Pitt is going to qualify DP. He's not worth the 8th overall status, but he is still a good prospect. Penguins management made it clear this week that they want him to play and develop in the AHL uninterrupted. Being jerked back and forth is partly what put him where he is today.
Kids a two time allstar in the AHL and has, until this recent stretch played well in a third pairing role. He had some excellent games last spring before being scratched for two months straight after Schultz was acquired.
I'm not saying he is going to be something, but I'm sick of people acting like he is Tyler Biggs or Tim Erixon....</div></div>
Believe me, I'm rooting for him. But Pittsburgh is in the thick of a really tough playoff position battle and they have a gaping hole in their blue line that they chose to fill with Steve Oleksy instead of Pouliot. The Pens organization since JR and Sullivan have taken over has had a single consistent message. It doesn't matter how old/young or far along you are in your development you are, if you can help the team right now then you will play. The fact that a scrub like Oleksy is playing over Pouliot is pretty telling of where their heads are at regarding his status in the organization. (Don't get me wrong. I wish they'd give him one more shot at NHL minutes while they have such a need)

Whilst that's true, that only means then that the pens won't be going balls deep in the playoffs. You need a backup to compete in the playoffs and Fleury can do just that. By buying out Fleury, they get no backup and by giving away Sprong it means they can keep both. Now granted you can probably settle for someone not as good as Sprong.</div></div>
How does buying Fleury out after the season have anything to do with the playoffs?

The WPG, DAL and especially STL trades are not even close to value. Calgary would be getting a bit closer but still no because it's not Bennett its just his rights. The only one that isn't awful is CAR and still I wouldn't do that if I was Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is trying to win a cup this year and while Nedeljkovic and Haydn may develop into good players they are not there yet

Trust me. I definitely agree with you about Sestito but here's a fun fact. 10 points in his last 10 games in the A. He's been a fight away from the Gordie Howe HT twice in that span and he also got one Gordie Howe HT because, well, he's Tom Sestito so he does fight sometimes.

I dig it. Engelland is kind of a useless piece (I'd much prefer Ruhwedel or Gaunce) but he's a UFA this year anyway so it doesn't really matter
