<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Raty being the "consensus" 1st OA pick a year ago is less relevant than getting passed over 51 times before finally being picked at 52nd OA.
Every scouting staff in the NHL, including that of the Islanders, doesn't seem to value Raty as highly as you.
Being projected to go in the first round is not the same as actually being picked in the first round.
You should know that.
For that reason, the return for Pageau is not the same as what Ottawa is getting in this post.
Nick Paul is one of the top penalty killers in the NHL and the type of player that Lou Lamoriello would want on his team.
Lamoriello is the same GM that spent a 2nd on pending UFA and aging pylon in chief Andy Greene.
There are many other things to what makes a solid player than just point production.
Having Cizikas come back every year has proven to not be enough to get past Tampa and win the Cup.
If the Islanders can't get by, then giving something close to what is seen here for Paul increasingly becomes a necessity.</div></div>
Ok so first if you want to bring andy greene into things, that was a special circumstance as pelech was out for the season and we desperately needed a defensive LHD.
As for the difference in return i said they were similar not the same but either way youre asking for a kings ransom for a 4th liner. You want for a 4th line rental a 2nd round pick plus a prospect picked in the 2nd round a week ago that has a really high ceiling. The islanders counter with cal clurltterbuck for 2 2nds (not interested in doan). Thats literally what youre telling me to pay. Youre out of your mind if you think thats fair.
As for not judging everything by points, thay was the wrong direction to go for you. Paul a top pker, well ill take jg over him on the pk, and the pp, and even strength by a long shot.
I love how you think since we havent won the cup we are gonna massively overpay for someone. Why dont you trade paul to COL for byram and newhook, bc they obviously need him bc they cant get past the 2nd round. Thats literally your logic.
Its actually funny bc i did an acgm where i signed paul (it was a 22-23) and i do like him as a player. But if you think you get anywhere close to this youre delusional.
And when you say the islanders dont value raty as highly as me you have no idea about that. In fact lamoriello said (and im paraphrasing) "i thought there was no way he'd still be there at 52". That means he felt hed go significantly earlier than 52.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>Pageau netted a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and a conditional 3rd.
In this post, Paul is netting a late 2nd and a prospect picked late in the 2nd round while the Isles are getting back a pick in a later round.
That's not a similar return for Pageau.
Lou Lamoriello will sign Paul to an extension because he'll fall in love with him instantly.
There's nothing outrageous about it.
When Nick Paul hoists the Cup in an Isles jersey, it will become a very good deal for both sides, looking back at it.
Guaranteed.</div></div>
Lmao 1 season ago raty was the consensus 1 OA pick hes not going anywhere till we see another season at least from him.
As for pageaus return it was a late 1st and a 2nd. The 3rd was only given if we won the cup. This return for paul is a 2nd and a guy who was projected to go in the 1st round. Very similar returns. Not to mention paul is a 4th liner, pageau was on pace for 32-21-53 that year. I mean really come on.
We also have no need for paul as all signs point to cizikas coming back. We are certainly not giving anything close to that for paul.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>xercuses</b></div><div>Damn bro I disagree these are trades that AZ would take and also where are the peanuts? Isles get rid of really bad contracts, Pens get a 30 goal scorer, Dvorak will cost alot more than you think and the wild get rid of rask, Edmonton get a good top 6 guy and bottom 6 guy and get rid of a bad contract
I think you need to look at trades that have been happening and figure out the value tbh your way off</div></div>
My bad on the minny trade, wasnt really looking at that but that one MIN accepts imo.
1-EDM. At this point broberg is still a top prospect. If you take out the 1st i could see that but as of now its a big overpay.
2-NYI. This value is really atrocious. If the cost to move ladd was 2 2nds, tell me how youre going to get a 1st and a 2nd here. Lets look at all the cap dumps that were moved this offseason.
Tyler Johnson - 3x5.
Cost to move - 1 2nd.
Shayne Gostisbehere - 2x4.5.
Cost to move - 1 2nd.
Andrew Ladd - 2x5.5.
Cost to move - 2 2nds.
So 1 year of 2.5 and 3 million (5.5 total) should cost... a 1st and a 2nd????? Max it costs 1 2nd to move both the contracts.
3-PIT. So for starters with rust and kapanen on the right side, getting kessel doesnt really seem to make sense. But if they were to go after him, kessel @3.4 doesnt get a 1st back let alone a 1st+. I dont think you understand how much 1st round picks are worth.
I dont disagree that the pieces getting moved out of ARI (outside of kessel to the pens) make a lot of sense to the other teams, but nobodys gonna pay an exorbitant price for it. The reason armstrongs been able to acquire so many picks is bc hes not trying to rip everyone off. Look at seattle, they made no trades and got f*cked bc of it. And the reason for that? It was bc they were charging outrageous prices.

I'd love to see Salo get a shot at LD but I've got a feeling 2 to 3 weeks in the job will be Hickeys. In the 2 to 3 games he played last year he wasn't great but he wasn't terrible either. We all know how Barry and Lou love their vets. Unless Lou has something up his sleeve I'm beginning to think this may be the plan, since all the decent d-man have been taken already. The guys making 2.5 million he should earn his pay check anyways in my opinion.

He's beating Beauvillier by a country mile in all advanced metrics.

LL set the price at ~5.5 = a 2nd when he moved ladd. Komarov is not only usefull unlike ladd, but he'll also return a mid round pick 50% retained at the deadline. Therefore a 3rd to move leo makes a lot of sense.

ike i said in the description and in another post, VT was exposed in favor of barbashev. Idk about you but that tells me that army isnt confident that tarasenko brings back more than barbashev will. Imo tarasenko w no retention potentially has negative value. Idk if anyones willing to take him @7.5. So i basically payed for retention plus theres a little extra value. I dont see any other gm willing to give up more otherwise he wouldve already been dealt imo.

Possibilities
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BobbyD</b></div><div>You are saving about 500k by buying Clutterbuck out, making a move ownership wouldn’t allow, 1 million dollars is still a lot of money just to save 500k on the cap. Bailey would be protected, unnecessary to let him go for nothing. Wahlstrom doesn’t have the skills to take over Bailey’s role on the team, a defensive playmaker. Wahlstrom is an offensive sniper. I don’t think Trotz would give Dobson 2RD over Mayfield, a trusted veteran defenseman. With the space you got, forget Kampf and sign Cizikas.</div></div>
Maybe my resign value on Clutterbuck is off. Given he's still making the buyout money, he might come back at 750k. In that scenario it's worthwhile.
Bailey is a tough one because I think keeping Palmieri is more important use of that money. I guess we will know in two days the protection lists, but I'm not yet convinced that from a long term financial situation they want to be stuck with an overpaid middle sixer. He's good, but there's better uses for the money.
D pairings can be shifted around, that doesn't matter much.
Now that I've read up on some other posts, Cizikas would make more sense. At first I thought he'd be after a 3.25x4 or something alike, but I've seen many AGMs with 2.5x6 which is more feasible for now. I'd adjust that.
