Description
Trade 1 - expansion
A 3rd and mdc cover hickeys contract. Aho and golyshev are to make sure they take hickey over bellows.

Trade 2 - STL
Its about time blues fans realized that tarasenko doesnt have a lot of value. Armstrong decided to protect barbashev over VT. That doesnt sound very encouraging. This may very well be the best offer youre gonna get. I also doubt francis will pick his contract over the dman thats gonna be exposed (out of parayko, dunn, krug, and faulk).

Trade 3 - BUF
This trade can go to anyone willing to take a cap dump. I will report any commemt that says "BUFs not taking cap dumps". It doesnt make a difference which team it goes to.

Mccabe - 4 years x 3 million
Mccabe was arguably BUFs best dman until he got hurt. He has good defensive numbers and is a solid LD2. He can be a good partner for mayfield this year and also for dobson next year.

Cizikas - 5 years x 2.5 million
Cizikas completes the identity line, and gets a deal similar to what arthur staple projected. Id rather not give the 6th year but if thats what it takes id probably do that.

Edler - 1 year x 1.25 million
Edlers not gonna get more than 1.5-2 mil for 1-2 years max. Hes a very solid defensive dman who played very good last year playing 2nd pair minutes. He was in the 98th percentile in quality of competition and was still in the 73rd percentile in even strength defense, and offense. He will be a very good partner and mentor for dobson.
The reason he takes this deal is bc mark stowe (edlers agent) said contract negotiations werent the reason edler was moving on. Per stowe it was bc "hes getting older". Sounds to me like hes looking for a cup and jumping onto this islanders team will probably be his best chance to win a cup. May have to come with a guarantee that hes gonna be an everyday starter (over greene), but either way thats what i want.

Lee-barzal-eberle
An elite line when theyre together. Looking at the playoff bubble and the beginning of this past season, i really want them back together for another year.

Beauvillier-nelson-tarasenko
Tarasenkos obviously a big question mark here and if he doesnt work out here just move bailey back to RW2 (panik will play LW3). But the possibility that tarasenko can rebound is worth a swing. This line thats been great for us can become even better. The reason i broke up this line as opposed to the 1st line is bc 18-29 are a lot more versatile than 27-13. If VT is playing well and trotz wants to try him with lee and barzy im good with that. But if he doesnt work out we didnt throw away anoher year of that top line. Beau will be beau and nelson will do his thing, but this has the potential to easily be the best 2nd line in the league.

Bailey-pageau-wahlstrom
Speaking of best lines in the league, this line also has the potential to be the best 3rd line in the league. Wahlstrom was on pace for ~23 goals last year with a rotating sub-par group of LWs. Getting to play with a top 6 forward whos a good passer will really help him, not to mention him possibly taking the next step. Bailey seems like a perfect fit both with wally and with jg. This is gonna be that line that can run rampant against opponents 3rd pairs after they exhausted themselves trying to stop our top 2 lines.

Martin-cizikas-clutterbuck
The identity line will really pester opponents. Theyll be physical and wear them down while also being very stout defensively. Their style of play will really take a toll on the opponent both physically and mentally. Later in games and especially in series, you see opponents getting away from their games bc they dont want to get hit.

Pelech-pulock
A top shutdown pair in the league. Hopefully pulock can find his offensive touch again and take this pair to a whole new level.

Mccabe-mayfield
A really tough solid physical 2nd pair, teams will have a hard time scoring on them. This pair should also be able to create some offense by simply shutting down other teams. Would be really excited to have this as my 2nd pair.

Edler-dobson
This is also a really exciting 3rd pair. Dobson will run PP1 and will really push the offense. This can be a decent 2nd pair so having them on the 3rd means a lot. It helps take the pressure of the top 4 by letting them play more and higher pressure minutes than a regular bottom pair. Edler was very solid both defensively and offensively while playing 2nd pair minutes against top competition. Out of all the lines/pairs, this might be the one id be happiest about.

Varlamov
Top 5 goalie, weve all seen what he can do and theres no reason to think he'll slow down. Even if he does we have...

Sorokin
The "goalie of the future" takes on a heavier role than last year, but still has varlamov here in case of the 2nd year regression. This year and next he will slowly take more and more responsibility and hopefully provide us with elite goaltending for the next ~10 years. This is the best goalie tandem in the league.

All that said this team is a powerhouse, and the cap works for the next few years. We'll have stability and will hopefully go on to win 20+ consecutive playoff series.

VT is going to cost more than that with 50% retained. I think we make good trade partners with STL though and Lou does like chasing big fish. Will be interesting after expansion

ike i said in the description and in another post, VT was exposed in favor of barbashev. Idk about you but that tells me that army isnt confident that tarasenko brings back more than barbashev will. Imo tarasenko w no retention potentially has negative value. Idk if anyones willing to take him @7.5. So i basically payed for retention plus theres a little extra value. I dont see any other gm willing to give up more otherwise he wouldve already been dealt imo.

To this deal? Absolutely! 3.75x2 for a Top 6 forward, even with question marks, would be amazing for the Isles.

And if St Louis can't do better than this, then I'm sure they'd take this deal.

I guess you haven’t read up on how Ron Francis is handling the expansion draft. It doesn’t matter what player, if you want him to select a specific player it’s going to cost a 1st + 3rd.

Not enough value going out they had 4 teams interested at full salary we’d have to give up more prolly Wilde+pick for 50% no question

I didnt see that. All i know is that word is that barbashev was protected instead of him.

Id be interested in tarasenko but even with the cap hijinx Lou pulled they still need to move a salary to make it work and if st Louis is just exposing him i think you see what their motives are, they probably wouldn’t retain like that

So i paid them for retention based on the market ~5.5 = a 2nd.
Its 7.5 so they get a little more value than just retention, but if the return for tarasenko @50% retained was significantly more than the value of the retention plus the value of barbashev, they wouldve protected him, potentially lost barbashev and gotten back significantly more value than potentially losing him for free. If they wouldve got more than barbashev and the retention they couldve moved some of the return to a 3rd team (ie: detroit, buffalo, jersey) and had them retain instead of STL. The fact that they didnt leads me to believe that the potential return for tarasenko wasnt enough to cover barbashevs value, even if they wouldve moved him @50%. So i think i payed for retention and barbashev here, maybe add a 3rd but nothing major.

They cant keep him anymore. And its not a lot bc tarasenko has no value. I paid for barbashev and 3.75x2 for retention. I feel like a 2nd and bellows would be good enough for that.
