Ol Fashioned Hockey Trade
Interesting but the job probably isn’t done there, morrissey, chyrunn left side held down, with possibly samberg/heinola as the four left dman, probably leads to Stanley possibly not qualified/dealt or whatever is done, Dillon walks not surprising, and still the large hole on the right side, demelo possibly fills 2nd pairing rhd or underwhelming top pair. Schmidt/pionk don’t have a ton of value, especially for there cap hits, and the best option is 19. So adding chyrun is nice, especially if he sticks around, but possibly bigger fish to fry before they get to 2ld. Just about rather a pageau/pulock, or cap for cap til fill a vet rhd hole. Possibly a laine/severson. But ya speculation fun of the offseason:

JETSSS MAKING MOVES
I think I let the old warrior Dillon walk, and make it an attempt to fill from within, heinola is playing in the nhl next year somewhere, Stanley possibly down in Winnipeg, but time to see what samberg has, and waivers and moose. See if the job can get down cheaper. Ehlers with a new coach or possibly from within, I think I gamble til at least the deadline, possibly shine him up a bit for a return or extension.

What does that have to do with the blueline? And Hayton just about played himself out of town, if marner wants 12 plus million what keeps the rest of that top 6 from asking for big numbers, brings a bigger mess than he’s worth, especially with that bargain Keller contract.

This kind of reminds me of Florida sticking Vegas with Reilly smith and marchassault, why stop there, can’t convince them to take merzlinkins too, nobody paying full freight for these guys. Probably best to shine them up and sell them off as a discount later in the season.

Fire Bowner
Believe it’s a mutual option, so possibly walk him into retirement, I think he’s done some good things for the jets, but possibly time to pass the baton on to Arniel, Bowness wouldn’t be a bad consultant/president type gig going forward. Moved the line on defensive responsibility, and a respectable showing up until Colorado. But with some moves and possibly a similar voice with a little different stamp on the squad, could make for a better playoff run.

Philly isn’t retaining that long, if that’s the deal, might as well sell savoie, with that much term ahead of him.

laines back
Kind of defeats the purpose by shipping ehlers for him, there would be a variety of guys that I would send to peak the interest outside of ehlers. Bones system seem to stifle the offensive creativity or wears the squad out by playoff time, maybe a natural scorer the answer to keep the squad rolling against a tough central.

Utah Stormin Mormons 20242025 outlook
Why are you buying byfield for 1lw, I’m sure there’s a lw on the ufa market that comes without the ill will and less assets given up. I’m all for the byfield purchase for 2c and move on from Hayton, with geekie coming fast for 3c and vets to ensure a soft landing. This is a playoff team with a few of the right moves this offseason, possibly a purchase or 2 via July 1, A hockey trade using picks and prospects to fill 2c, and number 1 ld and or rd, possibly a move on from vejimelka to continue the trend of finding diamonds In the rough in net and earning opportunities to succeed in goal. Savoie possibly out of Buffalo maybe also a interesting get if they can send the right package, possibly a little young and not the right experience for a 2c going forward, but lots of interesting options with the picks and cap in hand.

Logical offseason
Utah would attach themselves to there guy Cooley? Wouldn’t it be better to just create from within, former blues executive building a team doesn’t include that many soft players, marner/zegras would not have a home on a rough and tough team first team. Just an opinion, homerun swing could possibly come through free agency and add a guentzel/Reinhart not quite the 1c of a zegras, but just cost cap and term and not assets.

With helly and scheifele starting something similar, possibly a spot to gamble, new gm In Columbus looking to make his mark, change out some term and cap for his own adds. Still think there’s a ehlers to Columbus to attempt to get laine some value back, jets could definitely use severson and possibly sweetened with a sillinger, and jets add also. Or just me still trying to sillinger.

You get banners for a division win, conference win, presidents trophy, Stanley cup. In a decade you should be able to at least win your division. In 10 years, there’s a possible 2 5-year plans, at the end of one, there should be some shine of success lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>What NHL org. is hanging banners every decade? None in the cap era so if that is your expectation it is, again, pure delusion. Bruins won a SC in 2011, and made the SCF in 2015 and 2019, but have only won a single SC in the modern era. And that is the most competitive org. overall. In the cap era teams ascend and then decline. All the "dynasties" have done this: Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Tampa, ect. It's the intention and nature of the cap era.</div></div>
Plenty of organizations are hanging banners every decade, not always the one that everyone strives for, just can’t stand mid, and it seems what this organization strives for. Stay mid keep asses in the seats, much rather risk feast or famine, and give the city a proper chance at a cup. Mid and milestone nights, and career players just aren’t for me. Even once in a generation trip to the finals, would be suffice in some levels, like 04 flames or 06 oilers or 07 sens. 18 trip to conference finals doesn’t quite cut it, still recite some of that lineup and hold a special place. But damn is that all there is?

Macelli and Guenther are in your top 6 and get schmaultz out of the middle. Byfield age abilities exactly what is needed, will be interesting who they target with the capital and assets they have.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Very few ownership groups approve aggressive rebuilds until the team has been floundering for years. The reason being is that rebuilds, even for large markets, is a major opportunity cost of financial loss. And it is even worse for most small markets. Plenty of teams should be rebuilding like Calgary, Pittsburgh, Washington, New York Isles, etc. They don't because ownership groups won't approve it until it is inevitable. San Jose was also a prime example of that.</div></div>
I understand your sentiment, but having the smallest city, and the smallest building, the jets need to do somethings differently than the rest of the league, especially with the dollar predicted to be heading in the wrong direction. Still believe they should run the team like an extended junior team, 1st rounders possibly have til 29/30 years old. Everybody else traded before they can walk for nothing. Trade back into a 3/4 year window to build a nucleus and take them on a run til you do it again. No aging out assets, or walking for nothing, not a great chance anyone retires there or has milestone nights. But with any luck they can win the last possible game of the year, and or hang a few banners every decade.

Just a few too many of the players heading to the wrong side of 30 and the replacement 25 and under have been mediocre or unimpressive, so growing old with a franchise that can’t bring in a list free agents, needs a robbery trade or home runs in the draft to complement the group, or run into a ugly rebuild, move over sharks.

Going to be a fun offseason for utahs first, basically exactly what they need, at 2c and possibly use some of those seconds to lighten the cost and term and go a different way on the blueline. Veji/hayton/ and probably soderstrom probably time to move on and move on and upgrade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>Isn't Winnipeg having some questionable financials already? Probably like Calgary, they can't afford to rebuild even if they wanted to and they were a good team this year, just overmatched against a superior team. Happens every postseason. Doesn't mean they are a weak team at all.</div></div>
Jets owners have resources for days, they bought up the downtown, made deals on a mall now, they are invested, just trying to wrattle the cages of corporate Winnipeg to pick up the slack of lagging original season ticket holder groups, that were wearing down with the chaos of the time, and some of the decisions of the team. Jets ownership has a theory of competitive keeps the status quo, where the fanbase wants a shot at winning the last possible game of the year. If they don’t choose rebuild, it is going to be forced on them ugly. Hopefully the scouts and development team is on fire to bring resources needed to put the team over the top.

Answer me this, where would the jets sit if they let helly and scheifele go to free agency, possibly some token draft picks for jumping the line to talk contracts before July 1, then using the 17 million in savings combined with assets on nearing contract completion or a year or two out to free agency, moving them for bad contracts and picks and prospects til the cows come home. Take a page from the coyotes basically, but tear it down thoroughly and ugly, then with any luck there’s 4/5 extra firsts in next 3 drafts, and some of the ugly turns into something with opportunity and be back in the saddle by 2029, when hopefully and Dallas/colorado ready to give up the division.
