Sujet: Stars 18-19
- Sign Smith, Dickinson, Shore, and Heatherington
- No to Hutton. Good goalie, too much money for a backup. Go after someone like Khudobin or even Lehtonen for $1.5M
- Get Spezza off of the 2nd line. Kovalchuk-Faksa/Janmark-Radulov should be the 2nd line with this lineup
- Gurianov won't start the year in the NHL. He's been a healthy scratch for the last 4 games in the Calder Cup Playoffs
- Assuming the Stars sign all of the RFA's listed above (which they will) it's going to be tough to fit Hintz into the lineup unless they move a couple of pieces (*cough cough* Ritchie)
- You're paying Elie way too much. He played 72 games last year, but he's not a $2M a year kind of guy. He's a grinding depth guy that should see $1.25M MAX
- Nichushkin is making too much as well. He'll get a $2M bridge deal and then they'll reevaluate after the deal is over
- Not gonna buy out Hanzal. That's a 4-year commitment for a guy isn't too difficult to trade, if the Stars insist on getting rid of him.

I think your mind is in the right spot, but a lot of these moves just don't make a ton of sense from a logistical standpoint.

Dallas actually could be in the market for a defenseman. Let me preface this by saying that their starting-6 is likely set for next season. The lineup will likely look similar to this:

Lindell-Klingberg
Heiskanen-Honka
Methot-Johns

Benn would be a good pickup as a 7th defenseman. The Stars have two other defenseman, not in their top-6, that are probably NHL ready now (Bayreuther &amp; Heatherington). Dallas would be much better off either signing a veteran defenseman to a team friendly deal or trading for a clear 7th defenseman with 1 year left on his deal, especially given the fact that Heatherington would require waivers to be sent up or down next season. Benn fits the latter description. I'd much rather see Dallas stick an elder defenseman in the press box every night than a young guy that could be getting solid playing time in the AHL. All this being said, there are a couple of veteran defenseman on the free agent market that wouldn't require Dallas to give up a draft pick, but giving up a late pick for a guy that is familiar with Dallas wouldn't be the end of the world or anything.

Sujet: Dallas Stars 2018 Offseason
1) Don't need Hickey. Stars don't need a starting defenseman. The only defensemen they may be looking for are veteran, 7th defensemen that come cheap and on a 1-year deal. No need to pay for a guy like Hickey.

2) You are missing Johns, Dickinson, and Smith. Re-sign all of them. They will all be a part of the Stars organization next season.

3) I love how you just randomly signed one of Detroit's RFA's. That is not how the NHL free agency system works. Dallas can't just sign Larkin. They have to trade for his rights first.

4) Why sign Roussel? Why sign Roussel for 4 years? Dude has been nothing but a guaranteed 2+ PIM's per night. The Stars have the physical play he brings in guys like Elie, Smith, and Pitlick. Roussel is a fan favorite, but his time in Dallas is over.

5) No chance Dallas signs Nichushkin for 4 years at $5.5M AAV. I like Nuke more than most. I still think he has a ton of potential, but he's getting a 2-year bridge deal MAXING OUT at $2.25M per season. Realistically, he'll see $1.5M-1.75M AAV on his contract.

This is most definitely not the Stars 2018 offseason....
