I have no ideaComment PLEASE
PLD sucked on most of his teams during his first season, then he rebounded.
The buyout on PLD is also a lot friendlier since he's less than 25, and there are a alot less signing bonuses. This results in 1/3 of his salary being on the cap, essentially $1.1M for 14 years + ~$11M bonuses spread over the first 5 years. I could be slightly off on the numbers, but you can look them up.
Which is why I would jump all over that deal if I'm the Flames.
PS: that's without even considering that PLD is paid $2M less, is 5 years younger, and has produced the same numbers over the last 2 years combined.

I'd take that Flames trade without the extension so we can flip him with 50% retention. I think Marner making $5.4M would bring back more than 1st + 2 x 2nds.

I see the Markstrom trade as Markstrom for a 1st and a bunch of throw-ins that don't add any value.
Markstrom is worth the late 1st, with retention he's probably worth a mid 1st, or a late 1st + 2nd.

I think it's a decent return for Markstrom, especially without retention.
That said, the most Tre gave up for a goalie here was a 2nd(Kyrou) for Elliott.

That's a pretty good package. I'd probably take it. I would probably try and replace Rosen and Johnson with one of the big 3: Benson, Savoie, and Kulich, but that's wishful thinking probably.

Your ownership probably should’ve taken that first when NJD was offering it, instead of foolishly thinking they could compete if they kept Markstrom.</div></div>
He's just dumb enough to sign Chiarot to that anchor of a contract. The same applies to Vrana, Holl, Husso, and Maatta. I guess that's why you guys are trying to dump those contracts on us.
Didn't Stevie Y, the Wizard, trade for Nick Leddy? Didn't he move up so he can draft Cossa ahead of Wyatt Johnston? That Hronek kid is also doing alright on the first pairing in VAN, but at least you have 36 y.o. Petry as a replacement.
But hey I guess our ownership is stupid for not taking a hypothetical trade. In which Holtz was rumored for retaining 9M on Markstrom, not a 1st.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaquille_Oatmeal</b></div><div>Okay, which player would you rather keep as a Flames fan Matt Coronato or Markström?</div></div>
I can keep both so that's a moot point. Obviously, we're headed into a rebuild, so Coronato has a much better chance of helping the team in 3+ years. Markstrom's benefit would come in mentoring Wolf, and potentially increasing his ceiling, which I won't be able to gauge. Markstrom is also going to be the better player than Coronato in the next 2 years, so he will contribute to more wins and points in the standings(which we don't need).
As for Detroit, if you're still rebuilding, then sure keep your prospects, however if you're looking for players that will help you win this year then Markstrom is worth more to you than a 20% chance on someone better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shaquille_Oatmeal</b></div><div>Just ignoring that there is pick #15 included? I'm definitely not trading a potential Anton Silayev/Liam Greentree/Michael Brandsegg-Nygård for a 34y old goalie. Think about it from the Red Wings perspective - Husso & Holl can be bought out for cheap and Määttä holds little value still. Just need to do a little bit of Cap gymnastic and we can make it work.
When was the last time we saw an old goaltender get a Top 20 pick + a decent young player in return?
Why would a rebuilding team trade for a goaltender who isn't even here when we're truely competing?</div></div>
Not ignoring it, it's a decent pick and I think Markstrom alone is worth it.
Taken 15th from 2003-2018: Denisenko, Brannstrom, Kunin, Senyshyn, Larkin, Pulock, Ceci, Miller, Forbort, Holland, Karlsson, Plante, Helenius, O'Marra, Radulov, R. Nilsson.
There are 3/15(20%) great players - Karlsson, Miller and Larkin. And another 2/15(13%) I would be pretty happy with as draft picks/return for Markstrom - Pulock, Radulov. The other 10/15 are mostly busts and replacement level.
Until those players make an impact in the NHL they're just names on a page.
Taking Berggren for 3 cap dumps isn't something I'm too keen on.

Replace the WSH 1st and the 2nd with OTT's 24' 1st and you have a deal. Otherwise I have no appetite for taking on that Korpisalo contract, and the $16M attached to it.

I think this favors the Flames due to the buyout on PLD coming at a favorable <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/pierre-luc-dubois">1/3 ratio</a> which comes down to $1.1M for 14 years + 11.5M in signing bonuses.
Huberdeau on the other hand has mostly bonuses, so his contract is buyout proof.

Not trading a top goalie for a bunch of overpaid spare parts in: Holl, Husso, and Maatta. All these guys are dime a dozen and can be had for less in free agency.

Okay, but which direction is CGY heading with that trade? Carlo is a good #4, but if we're trading Weegar we wouldn't be competing any time soon.
Merkulov is also 23, and is far from a sure prospect. We've had plenty of guys put up his numbers in the AHL, that couldn't produce in the NHL. The 3rd gives the Flames about a 5% to draft a good player and about a 1% chance of it being someone better than Weegar.
Weegar is here to stay, and IMO a trade for Weegar should start with your team's top prospects and 1sts.

First of all, I think that PLD will rebound, he always has a first bad year. That said, even if he's back to form he would entrench the Flames in the mushy middle.
Moreover the Kings would be sending us assets with PLD.
Based on the season end interviews I fully expect Zary to play as a sheltered 3C next year. Unless the Flames sign one of Duchene, or Henrique on a short term(< 3 years) contract.

First of all I think Ehlers is awesome, but I would hate that trade for the Flames.
We're paper thin on D- we only have Weegar and Andersson as top 4D. We'll likely be adding one more D to support the likes of Miromanov and Kylington.
Pospisil also brings some piss and vinegar that the Flames are lacking, and he's fast. He really drags this team into games.
If we're trading Andersson I would prefer to see a package of futures and prospects, because we have more than enough forwards under contract, and not enough spots for the young guys.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>In your eyes Bast what does retention price look like? I am just trying to gauge what CGY fans see as the value.</div></div>
It's very hard for me to gauge because I've seen Marky play great for the entire season. That said, he was terrible in the last year under Sutter.
I see something like Markstrom (50%) + VAN 24’(29th) for NJD 24'(10th). Or simply Marky for a mid first perhaps.
Other Flames fans value him more. I also think that he had the most value in the middle of this season for 3 seasons of Marky at $3M... I would've expected a good young player + 1st for that.

I understand that, and I think he is a pretty good value at $6M. I would probably prefer going with Markstrom Wolf as a tendem for the next 2 years over getting a 2nd. Mostly because I think it would benefit Wolf's development, which would help the team more than a 10% chance of getting a top6 F/top4 D.

I like this Islanders idea
Here I thought 25 year old 30 goal scorers don't grow on trees, and would bring back at least a mid 1st + 2nd.
Especially, since Yegor is only making $3M next year, and has room to grow his game.
As for Sharky playing Center. He did okay, but Huska mentioned that he liked him better on the wing in the season end interviews.

But we have only one player that brings what Pospisil does.
Also we have plenty of depth forwards. We mostly need 1 x top 4D, 1 x top 9C, and skilled forwards that can generate offense.

I don't think that this CGY trade will go through on NHL24. A bunch of spare parts and a 2nd for a pretty good goalie, and a top pairing D.
