<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>The Stars certainly don't accept this. O'Reilly is dealing with an injury that will keep him out for the next couple of weeks and it's the kind of injury that very well could impact his overall play when he's "healthy". Also worth noting that the Stars don't need a center. That's probably the position they are deepest at currently. Of the players in their top-6 (Robertson, Hintz, Pavelski, Benn, Johnston, Dellandrea), the only one that doesn't play center is Robertson. This is before factoring in guys like Seguin, Faksa, and Glendening as well. Simply no need for O'Reilly right now. Can't see Dallas trading some high end assets for a player on an expiring deal that they don't need.

Also worth noting that an argument could be made that Kyrou is the 2nd best D prospect in the Stars system behind Bichsel. He and Harley are both very good defensive prospects for Dallas and Kyrou is in a premium position at RD. Harley is more expendable in a trade than Kyrou, but you're not getting Harley, Kyrou, and a 2nd for O'Reilly right now</div></div>

ROR is already back with goals in back to back games and has looked very strong out there. And all those players you named have capabilities to play wings as well. ROR should slide in as a great 2C and will certainly help on important faceoffs and on special teams. It's a good trade for Dallas who is having a great season and should be in a win-now mode with how open the west is and an aging group of guys (still new young core coming in).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wozniwack</b></div><div>I think one of their big guys is going to have to be traded. Kind of tough when you have Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Rielly, Brodie and Muzzin carrying over 55% of your total cap. Someone needs to go or else it'll be league minimum players in their bottom 6 forwards and bottom pair defensemen.

Nylander honestly should be a casualty of this cap situation, but not necessarily in this trade. Can trade him in the offseason to get some cheap pieces to fill in the bottom roles.

Make this trade for Barbi and ROR, possibly sign them both for semi-cheap. Still have room to sign some of their other FAs on cheap contracts if possible.
Also think trading Murray isn't out of the question if they keep Samsonov to give Woll a shot as a backup or sign a league minimum vet to fill that role.

Still think this trade makes sense for Toronto since they should be in win now mode this year with all the cap issues in the near future.</div></div>

Extra thoughts on this, trade Nylander while his value is high and at the end of his contract. They know they probably won't be able to resign him after another good year, and could trade him to get cheaper and young pieces to fill voids. Get rid of one d-man possibly as well to free up even more space. JT, AM, and MM are virtually untouchable. Reilly as well.
Anyone else with a cap over 2mil should be on the block during the offseason just to try to get out of this cap space situation

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Goggs</b></div><div>Tavares has a full no move and will not be traded. He would never waive it. Nylander could be traded, only if Dubas and Co are let go. But trading Nylander for these guys is a net loss. The leafs need to make room for a 3-4m a year raise if they want to resign bunting. Holl is due to double his salary to around 4m per year or they lose him and have to find a replacement 20min a night D man for only 2m dollar (that doesnt exist) and they need to resign Samsonov who will likely get 3-5m per which is a raise of 2m at least. Holmberg needs a raise and so does Kampf, Who the leafs cannot afford and will lose to FA. At which point they will need a new third line C for only 1.5m (also doesn't exist). Just to keep the team they currently have, They need to find about 8-9M in cap space. Assuming the Leafs make no trade, as things stand now, they would have to let Kampf and Holl walk, replace Holl with Timmins, replace Kampf with Holmberg at 3C (at about a 1m a year raise), sign a new 4th line C at league min. Let Kerfoot AND Envall walk. Replace both of them with league min players. And then they would have just enough money to resign Bunting and Samsonov.</div></div>
