The Slafkovsky extension conversation
I don't like thinking that way but nowadays you can almost and I say almost here, see who's a team player and who's not by their contract. If a player take a "team friendly" 8 years to be there and win, I see him as a team player. On the other side, when a player takes a bridge deal to maximise his earnings, I don't think it's in the best interest of the team. I'm not saying ALL players that take bridge deals are selfish (maybe it's because of injuries of stuff like this), but if in this case you see your captain and your little dwarf friend signing for 8 years each at an AAV less than 8M, I don't see why you don't follow the lead and continu the way it is right now. Slaf looks like he'll be one heck of a player and for the 2nd half as you said, was point per game. I sure hope he takes the 8 years 7.85 AAV and develop in the big all-star powerforward that we want

That's completly true! It's not that I don't want him on defence nor to suceed there, it's only because there's so much nhl ready dman on this team that I don't see how he can start the year in the nhl if there's no changes or trades

Hutson game have never been physical. He is a cerebral player, just like Makar, Hugues, Fox. Why would we denature that. Hutson will start the season in Mtl for sure.</div></div>
I just think it will be hard to earn a spot when you have Matheson, Savard, Guhle, Xhekaj, Struble, Harris and Kovi already in the big league. With Mailloux, Reinbacher and Barron pushing for a spot too.... Some big choices will be made this summer for this D's futur. But I would really be happy for him and the team if he makes it and earn a d spot day 1!

I'm not saying he didn't but he's almost sure to start in the Ahl if 1 or 2 Dman are traded. We see all kinds of funny trades here to go get Zegras, Johnson, Sillinger, Perfetti etc.... why not try one of our best offensive weapon in another spot so he can help the offense. It worked for Burns and Byfuglien the other way around, maybe it could work for Hutson

This point is moot, LA seems to not be firing Blake and Blake's future is tied to how he deals with PLD. Any major losses (like a buyout) would be enough to push for a change, which if that was the case he'd already be fired.</div></div>
I'm not trying to make a point, it's not real and I don't see LA doing this. I was just trying to spark a conversation about the man that so many people were whilling to sacrifice everything a year ago to acquire him

What are Anaheim top 3 guys you want to draft ? Just out of curiosity, cauz I know you have a ton of prospects but which position could use another top 10 pick. Thanks!

Massive trade at the Draft
Anaheim will say no to that IMO but it's funny how time as changed. In the 1999 Draft when Vancouver wanted to draft both Sedins, they only had to pay 2 3rd round pick to move from 4th to 1st. Nowadays, you could offer 2 1st round pick and teams would still keep their pick

I completly understand and has I said, Pittsburgh will never acept that but drafts pick even 7th rounders can become something nowadays if they have a good development. Pittsburgh can choose quantity over quality because they know when the golden days are gone they might end up being the SJS of this year and play anyone anywhere to let them play and get some experience.

I agree with you on the player side, montreal doesnt even give up a good prospect. But saying that the draft picks aren't good pieces is taking it a little bit too far. No they might not be a top 10 pick or 4 1st but they can end up being somthing for the team if they draft the right player. Even if mtl gives up Mailloux and Roy, they can end up being AHLers in a couple of years if they dont progress or translate their game in the NHL. That said, I'm sure Pittsburgh refuse that trade any day!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Headhack</b></div><div>Not sold on Lundell for the asking price I've seen on this website. "
Panthers are in win mode, why would we trade him"
We got Newhook from a win mode now team for 2 x 30th picks. I would think he would fetch little higher than that.
(A) Prospect + NHL player + high pick :
Farrel/Mesar + Harris/Barron/Struble + MTL 2nd 2025
Something along those lines, however people will ask for :
Farrel + Mailloux + MTL 2025 1st</div></div>
If FLO wants to keep Montour, I doubt they take the deal just because the player NHL ready we sent them is a D-man. But if they want keep Reinhart, I think they would think about doing it just to solidify their D

Next year
Hi MTL fan here!
I can see that you're talking about Korchinski, what do you think of his rookie year ? Do you still see him as a 1st pair D-man + 1st PP or more of a 2nd pair + 1st or 2nd PP ? He was a real offensive D-man in the juniors but do you think he'll be able to produce at the NHL level ? Thanks have a good day!

IMO Montreal wont give up a first for 1 year of Dvorak, they dont need the cap space that much. CGY needed it to sign Kadri when they traded Monahan but I dont see MTL going for a top 5 free agent and giving up a 1st to do it

New Third Pairing Next Year
Mtl declines IMO I just dont see a justification to take a guy that makes 4M per year. Yes he's an upgrade in term of pts production but he would be a 3C or 2C if someone is injured but he never reached 40 pts in his career. Even if value wise it's fair, I just don't see the point of doing that for MTL.

Habs Fans And Your Fantasies About 87
Crosby is a generational player yes but on his old days. He's 36 and even if he comes with an extension he might not be as much valuable as a Guentzel who was a rental for Carolina this year. Guentzel was traded for way less than what you propose. If you want equal value to what Guentzel got you, MTL might propose something like Anderson, Kidney, Farell a conditionnal 2nd that can become a first and a 2nd

What If
I can happen! In 2 years time, Montreal will likely make the playoff and have a good core of mid 20 years old trying to compete for a playoff spot and Crosby would be the biggest piece/mentor that montreal could sign. If he wants to come, we will gladly sign him to whatever he wants, but if wants to stay a pens for life, thats okay.
The only thing I can add to your team prediction is that I dont think montreal will sign big UFA before the end of the 2025 season. I would let the young guys have all the ice time to get better and after that sign one or 2 big piece like Crosby, Draisaitl per exemple, that only become UFA once in a lifetime. I know that it's dreaming big of signing these guys but mtl will be in a position to make a good offer to very good players who understand that they could be the missing piece to a cup winning team

What would MTL need to add ? I know he was selected 5th ovr but he's one of not many to almost never play in the nhl because he never took a step forward. MTL traded for dach and newhook from this draft for a first and something in both cases but they were nhl guys that already made a small mark in the big league, Turcotte doesn't have a point in 12 games in the nhl
