If a player is signed to a one year contract after the start of the NHL season, that contract is subject to a unique cap hit calculation.

A notable aspect of the calculation is that the cap hit value is increased.

The cap hit is calculated as follows:
Cap hit = Signing bonus × total season days / season days remaining + base salary

Example:
Brogan Rafferty of the Vancouver Canucks signed a one year ELC on April 2, 2019. The contract has a base salary of $832,500, a signing bonus of $92,500, and there were 4 days remaining in the 186 day season:
Cap hit = $92,500 × 186 / 4 + $832,500

Greer slashes the hands. Not significantly perhaps, but enough for Hoffman to take exception and respond in kind, with his own slash to Greer's hands. You slash someone you should expect to get slashed back.
Greer's response to that was a full on crosscheck to the face. There's no arguing that he didn't intend to do exactly what he did. No way to pass that off as a mistake.
Sucker punches have received 1-2 games suspensions. This was a 2-handed sucker punch with a weapon. Just incomprehensible.</div></div>

And as I’ve pointed out, K’Andre Miller got 3 games for spitting like a month ago, how is a cross-check to the face with a stick not at least equal if not worse than spitting suspension length wise
