Trade everyone is talking about
Not a chance NSH agrees.
1. Evangelista is one of NSH's untouchables. Asking NSH to move Evangelista is like asking TOR to move Knies.
2. No way NSH gives up this much for a RW. If I wanted a top line RW I would rather just throw the bag at Reinhart and retain those assests, but NSH doesn't really need a pure winger because they already have plenty of top RW prospects in system. Would rather go after a center or someone who can play center (e.g. Stamkos, Necas, Lindholm, etc...).

NSH declines. Not going to even speak to value, it just looks like Trotz is going to resign Saros unless someone comes out and offers him an extreme overpayment that he can't deny, and this isn't really that.

Totally fair. Maybe it is just the old Preds fan in me that is expecting more offense from the defense, but with the forward line up that is here that isn't really necessary outside of Josi and Molendyk. Also with Ufko knocking on the door that is some additional offense there as well that could step in if needed

I like this roster a lot. It has a lot of punching power and brings in a lot of the pieces NSH needs.
One thought though regarding the roster is potentially putting a deal together for Hronek instead of Zadorov? Just thinking in terms of offensive impact since and with Casey still in college, I'm just uncertain when he is thinking of moving from college to the NHL. Hronek could provide the offensive punch from the right side NSH needs till he is ready

Big trade with UTAH Salt Lickers
NSH says no, it isn't close. NSH declines for 3 reasons
1. NSH isn't waiting 2 years on the return for one of, if not their best player. The pick is 2024 1st, not 2026.
2. Minten has played well this season and had a strong postseason, but he isn't the potential gamebreaker that NSH needs in the top 6. NSH has centers that can play bottom 6, but they need someone who can step up and be a long term top 6 C. Could Minten do that? Maybe, but NSH would want more certainty with that if they were to trade Saros. If this was Cowan, then I'd be more receptive to the deal, but as it stands, TOR is adding
3. Most importantly NSH is not likely to move Saros at all. Trotz has said he is working on resigning Saros and that is his top priority for the off-season. What Trotz asks for Saros would be unrealistic for most teams (for example when LA called last year asking about Saros NSH listed the equivalent of 3-4 1st's/ blue chip prospects). NSH just isn't really interested in moving Saros. When it comes to Askarov, Trotz is basically looking to do what BOS is doing now with Ullmark and Swayman.

NSH declines on the basis that you have included Evangelista. Evangelista is on NSH's untouchables list as he is one of NSH's few great young pieces and one that is actively on the roster. Asking NSH to trade Evangelista is like asking TOR to trade Knies.
Askarov I'd be willing to move for the right piece, but I'm not of the opinion that Marner is that piece. Would be willing to move other picks or futures, but Askarov is low down on the list I'm willing to part with.

Leafs 5-17-24
NSH declines for 2 reasons.
1. NSH is not moving Evangelista for anything. He is on NSH's untouchables list and is one of the few young great pieces has. He will be a permanent fixture in NSH's top 6. Asking NSH to move Evangelista is like asking TOR to move Knies.
2. NSH is increasingly likely to sign Saros rather than deal him. If, and it is a big if, NSH is to deal Saros it isn't going to be for another RW especially when they have a good number of RW prospects who are all projecting top 6/9 (Wood, Kemell, Tomasino, & Fink) not to mention Evangelista is in this group as well. NSH would be looking for a center in return, and there are several that would be available in free agency this year that would let NSH retain Saros instead.

NSH declines. No interest in a reunion tour with Jarnkrok
SEA declines. SEA has no interest in trading for Kampf, especially when paying for a higher quality pick. Regarding the second trade, SEA has no interest in Liljeren and Tolvanen > Robertson. Doesn't make sense to trade for a D they have no need for and then downgrade both in pick and forward?

This isn't enough to get Saros away from NSH. 21OA is the most intriguing piece here as NSH has prospects that would make the lineup before Kaliyev, and NSH doesn't need more bottom 6 center prospects. The players coming back to NSH will have to increase significantly in quality for Trotz to consider moving Trotz. If this is the offer Trotz just resigns Saros instead

NSH likely isn't moving Saros. Not going to say it won't happen, but it is highly unlikely. NSH additionally has no interest in Jarnkrok.
Also, you are about 2.5M low on the Montour deal. He will likely fetch somewhere between 6.5-7M in the offseason. If he would sign for that number, I can't imagine a world where FLA doesn't just resign him immediately.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>Personally I would go a bottom 6 of
Novak- Parssinen- Tomasino
L'Heureux - sissons - smith
But I really dont like having novak at center for various reasons. He atleast needs a linemate that is competent at faceoffs if he is going to play the role of center. L'Heureux with sissons and smith could also be a very effective and annoying line to play against. Scoring potential and good around the boards.
WRT stamkos - with nyquist leaving at the end of the season there is always the possibility that if svechkov proves himself stamkos could go back to wing. Pärssinen also may not pan out at center and sissons' contract is only 2 more seasons.
I dont see fabbro sticking around long term. Two coaches in a row have diminished his role on the team. He seems to be taking a quick route out of town. Ufko may be on a quick route to the NHL if he keeps it up but I still wouldn't be surprised is Molendyk makes the team out of camp. His progression reminds me alot of Girard. At some point, it just becomes undeniable that he needs to move up.</div></div>
My only issue with that bottom 6 is I think that would a squandering of L'Heureux just in terms of ice time. He has been dominant in MKE, especially during the playoffs and has been playing on their top line. At a minimum I would want him on the 3rd line and give him looks in the top 6. Sure the line would be annoying, but I'd want L'Heurueux to be on the ice for more than 8-10 minutes a game. If we are just playing him on the 4th line I'd rather just let him develop in MKE for one more year and let Jankowski play on that line instead.
Also those are also completely fair points regarding Stamkos. If Svechkov has another season like he just had in MKE, then I can't seem him not making the team in 25-26.

Thats very true, but in that case, would the additions of Stamkos and Batherson not be enough for that? With Evangelista playing with higher quality linemates I imagine his scoring touch will start to come out. You could also put Tomasino on that line instead and move Nyquist down to play with Novak to have both Tomasino and Evangelista playing in the top 6. Its more just a thought on saving money in order to do something about the right side because after McDonagh it looks, less than ideal. I'd personally rather use that to go sign another RD, especially if we are moving on from both Carrier and Fabbro.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>Does stamkos really play center or is he more of a winger? If center, would love to add him.
Personally, would save the money on marchessault and just roll nyquist up there with forberg and ror. Evangelista would look good with stamkos and batherson or novak converted back to wing. Brunette is going to want to run a grinder 4th line.</div></div>
100% agree with that. Save the extra money and retain Fabbro and run him in the top 4. I also don't think Molendyk makes the team immediately. I could be wrong, but I think Ufko has a higher change of making the team day one compared to Molendyk.
Lines look more like
Forberg - ROR - Nyquist
Batherson - Stamkos - Evangelista
L'Herueux - Novak - Tomasino
Smith - Parssinen- SIssons
Josi - Ufko
McD - Fabbro
Statsney - Schenn/Lauzon
My only big concern is with that Stamkos contract, that is a lot of term and money to be giving someone in their mid 30's. Yeah, it is Stamkos, and he could pull a Crosby and deny the affects of age for the next 4 years, and if that happens, then great. But I'd be hesitant to give him that term especially when we have Svechkov waiting in MKE and looking pretty good for his first season in NA. Not to mention we would then have Fabbro, Evangelista, and Askarov to sign the next season. Maybe more like 6.5-7M if we are giving that much term, but I'd rather see Stamkos signed to a 2-3 year deal at 8M if we are giving him that much money.

According to David Pagnotta
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Without the extension, it's still pretty fair. Saros is a pending UFA and I would say that goalies aren't worth the same as their forward or defensive counterparts, even if it's a winger or LHD. Would NSH want to give a whole 1st (-Jarnkrok's 3rd/4th value)? Maybe not, I would expect that they would ask for Minten instead of Jarnkrok. I don't think there's much difference in value between Fabbro and Liljegren.
I agree with Just_A_Guess, I don't think NSH would want to give Saros, and it would probably be Askarov+ another piece (someone like Tomasino that could be a roster player) instead. Do the Leafs want Saros? Maybe. Treliving did say they don't want to have the 2nd best goalie in the series when asked about extending Samsonov, but considering that Woll could be that guy for them if healthy and Askarov's high potential, I think they would spend the new found cap to fix their defense.</div></div>
I think NSH would be willing to spend in order to get a superstar or game breaking kind of player, I just don't know if Marner is that player for them. I won't say he can't be that player, but it would just depend on the cost. The big thing for NSH, if they were to give up Saros, is that they wouldn't want to give up much more than that as part of this deal, and that is more due to how much they value Saros. I think you are right that goalies are likely evaluated as lower than forwards and defenseman, but that is because a goalie can't really win you the game, they can either 1. Keep you from losing it or 2. Help you "win more" (e.g. bigger score discrepancies). That said, goalies at Saros's caliber can "win" you games just by continuing to give the offense time to score, and for TOR's case, that isn't exactly difficult.
But, if TOR is not interested in Saros, what does it cost to get Marner? For him I'd be willing to spend a number of assests for him. The only 3 prospects in my mind that are currently untouchable for Marner would be L'Heuruex, Svechkov, and Molendyk. Either of the 1st's NSH has for 2025 and some of the top prospects NSH has like Tomasino, or defenseman like Ufko I'd be open to moving. I wouldn't feel good about giving up Ufko, but I would consider him eligible from NSH in a deal that brings in someone like Marner, and NSH can draft for more RD's in the upcoming draft with their picks.
If the ask is Askarov, then I can't imagine that NSH would be very receptive to it. They aren't going to not consider it, but I'd rather try free agency before moving Askarov. The big reason for that, and with the idea of acquiring Marner is that NSH needs centers more than anything now, and NSH has an over abundance of RW's in system right now, so moving the goalie of the future for a piece to win now, when the team isn't exactly built to win now is really risky and would require a lot re-prioritization on NSH's end to make that happen.

Surprise last year of misery
NSH hangs up on you and blocks your number. L'Heureux has had an insane postseason and regular season and Askarov is NSH's goalie of the future. A late 1st, an LD who always plays behind Josi and fights for 2nd line minutes, and an objectively worse goalie than the one NSH isn't sending doesn't get you NSH's best prospects by themselves, let alone a 2nd on top of it.

It's more based on the reports that Marner wants to stay a Leaf. If he wants to stay a Leaf, there isn't much TOR can do.
Additionally, NSH doesn't agree to a deal with an extension in place, and he isn't getting paid 12M a year in NSH.

I agree with you on that assessment of Novak. I see him more as a LW who can play C. What concerns me is it just doesn't leave NSH with a lot of cap room and as a result might for a lot of guys up early and they might not be ready for it. They could do it, but it feels very high risk

Double Quarter Pounder
That is really close for NSH. I would expect an extension to be in place with that deal for both Saros and Marner. I'm just not fully onboard with giving up their 1st this year. I'd rather give up a pair of 2nds (1 this year and 1 next year) as opposed to moving a 1st.
If Marner also played center, then I'd 100% be alright with giving up the 1st, but with how much of an issue center depth is in NSH right now, that is a really rich deal for NSH to be giving up to not address that issue while absorbing that much cap. It doesn't leave NSH with a lot of cap to address their center issue.
