Tavares is getting PAID way MORE. Staal ain’t getting traded

-8m isn’t nearly enough
-NYR doesn’t have the future assets to sustain their current playoff streak.
-NYI is currently doing better in the standings. One would think that if Tavares was that insistent on staying in New York he’d go with the superior New York team.

I don’t have a problem with people making posts about Tavares’ impending free agency. I did the same thing with Stamkos and it’s all part of the culture if this site. But this is just bad reasoning. If Tavares is going to take this big of a discount for another team, it’s going to be for a team that he is certain will get him a Cup. Right now, that is not NYR.

Lmfao "the superior New York team" it's been 6 games this season... the Rangers have been the better team every year for a while but you're gonna judge who is the superior team over 6 games? Ill agree that theres no way Tavares would take that discount, but chill with that superior team trash lol. Given the choice I think Tavares might choose a team that actually knows where its gonna be playing in the future. If it was a foregone conclusion he was gonna resign with the Islanders he would have signed already

IMO, the Rangers are a contender for Tavares in the offseason, though the Isles are still my # 1 pick. But the Staal trade sorta takes all credibility from the post. Be smarter in trying to achieve cap space. Obviously with roster of 20 and not much cap room someone good would have to be traded.
