If John Tavares signs with Buffalo

Créé par: kshizlay

Description
This is what I think the Sabres roster would look like if they were successful in signing Tavares. Now as you can see Kane and Lehner had to be let go since there wouldn't be enough cap space to re-sign them and also Moulson and Bogosian had to be bought out to free up cap space.

That's for being realistic about the buyouts. But as you see you have a roster of 20 and no cap space. And no money for future signings. Forget Tavares.

You can only sign Tavares for 7 years. But, I agree money will be super tight with Eichel and Tavares getting $10 mill. I hope Bogosian has a solid year so we can move him as not a negative asset but who knows with that. You would have to move Oreilly or Reinhart to help with the cap imo. Baptiste and Bailey wouldn't require that much either. Still, fun to think about

I made this when I was half asleep so I forgot you can only sign UFAs for 7 years at the most, and I signed Baptiste and Bailey for that much because I think they're gonna have good years and demand money close to what Girgs/Larsson are making. It would be really nice if Bogosian has a solid year like you said so we're not stuck with his buyout cap hit and we'll have a little more cap space.

Yeah I tried to have a bigger roster but obviously I couldn't, I suppose Baily/Baptiste could sign for less and maybe Johnson could take a pay cut or just sign a way cheaper backup. But Pomville's contract comes off the books in 18-19 and there would be around $17M in cap space so Tavares could possibly work out but I wouldn't bet on it.

kshizlay: Folks think future cap is a panacea which allow front loaded deals. But even with 17m off the books in the future, a good team has to fill those positions with good players. And good RFAs might get big raises.
27.5m ove, one third of the cap is for three players....Eichel, JT, and ROR, is getting to be too steep for the Sabres or any team.
