Description
First the trades:

Dallas receives: Ian Cole, 2018 3rd round pick (PIT)

Pitsburgh receives: Radek Faksa

Dallas gets another shut down d-man that'll allow Julius Honka to transition nicely into the NHL. He will be able to play his offensive game while learning the defensive fundamentals from 2 time cup champ Ian Cole. The 3rd could be removed as the trade is assessing needs for both teams. Pitsburgh gets their 3C who is young and on a decent contract. Playing with Hagelin and Kessel potentially, that could be a filthy 3rd line.

Dallas receives: Nate Schmidt, James Neal ($2.5 million retained), and Oscar Lindberg.

Vegas receives: Jamie Oleksiak, Esa Lindell, Antoine Roussel, 2018 1st round pick (DAL), and a 2019 2nd round pick (DAL).

Dallas gets another solid defenseman and he's on a good contract for 2 years. He showed what he could do when playing top 4 minutes in the playoffs for Washington last year. They also get a 30 goal scorer in James Neal with 2.5 million retained, who'll play great no matter where in the lineup he is. Oscar Lindberg, the final piece of this trade, is a great 3rd/4th line player who can play the penalty kill and put up decent numbers. Vegas gets a 1st in a deep draft, a 2nd, a young replacement for Schmidt in Lindell, Oleksiak, and a gritty guy in Roussel. He's more of a cap dump for Dallas.

Dallas receives: Al Montoya

Montreal receives: Kari Lehtonen ($2 million retained)

Dallas gets a cheaper option at backup, and he shouldn't have to play much if Bishop stays healthy. Montreal gets a little better in backup to Price (incase of injury) and his contract is up this year so it's not a big deal, especially with cap retained.

Okay, even without these trades, Dallas is still a filthy team. You have to remember that this team won the western conference and scored the most goals in the league just 3 seasons ago. This was without defensive stability in Marc Methot, and Ian Cole (provided this trade ever happens). Also, Dallas finally has a true #1 goalie in Ben Bishop, and he'll be great for them (provided he plays a full season.) Then you add the defensive coach in Hitch, and this team looks solid all throughout the lineup. Sure, you are gonna sacrifice some of the offense from three years ago, but with the additions of Hanzal, Radulov, and Schmidt this team looks good on both sides of the puck. Oh, did I mention this team was leading in scoring BEFORE THEY GOT RADULOV!?!?! Then you add the Methot affect, which allows Klingberg to play a more offensive game, without worrying about no one backing him up in any case he gets caught out of position. With all these new additions, Dallas is probably the scariest team in the league in every aspect.

I think the Pittsburgh trade is fair and would benefit both teams. Not sure about the others.

After looking the Vegas trade over again, I can clearly see that the trade is heavily favored in Dallas's favor.

Vegas trade a better prospect in place of Oleksiak or a first instead of a second maybe? Overall I like it.

I think the trade with Pitt is fair. The trade with Vegas you'd have to add more especially with Neal having salary retained. And I'd probably keep lehtonen over Montoya. But not bad overall

The Montreal trade makes no sense, Habs have Lindgren could even take Montoya's spot, why would they go get an average goaltender at 5.9M

The goalie is only that much for 1 more year, for 3.9 because of retained salary. Then you have the fact that Price is injured often and sure, Lindgren can take his spot, but it'd be a lot better if they had a guy who has been a starter before. Just like LA moving Budaj for Bishop.

I think the Pens would do a trade like that, but I doubt Dallas would. Don't get me wrong Cole is a solid blue-liner and the Pens would miss him, but they'd give up 1 year of him + a 3rd for 4 years of Faksa

I don't really see the benefit for Montreal, maybe if Dallas threw in a mid-round pick they'd do it, but otherwise I don't get it.

Don't think the Vegas trade is particularly close. Roussel is a throw in like you said and he'd have no value to Vegas since he's on an expiring deal. Maybe they could hope to flip him for a 4th or a 5th, but that's about it so it doesn't add much to the deal. Oleksiak is young with some control and is a former 1st rounder, but he's yet to show he can even be a 7th defenseman and he'd have a tough time making their roster. Lindell had a nice first year and he's got some potential with 4 years of team control, but I don't think he and a 1st and a 2nd are landing you three guys like Neal, Schmidt and Lindberg. Neal alone is bringing back a 1st round pick and more. Schmidt probably has first round value as well. Lindberg would be a little less, but probably could bring back a 2nd and a lower pick.

You have grabbed Vegas's three best players. Vegas is still trying to ice an NHL team so traded for never futures (and those futures aren't that great) is not in Vegas's interest. Although is a common theme on this site.
