Sure Vegas has 11 Dmen, but they aren't all NHLers. And you just took one that is. "Giving" them Brouwer is no favour to Vegas.

You might both be right but JH has his down side - his weak play (has skill but weak) in the strongest + largest division in the NHL (lead the team in giveaways by more than double last season). JH also doesn't fit as well in the dressing room as Hall would - just not as good character. His up-side (other than his skill set on the ice) is his jersey / merchandise sales and his "star power" to draw fans into the seats. For Calgary these 2 items are less important as the dome is sold out (other than single seat tickets) and our merch sales are already really high (as a Canadian team) - This trade would not just benefit NJD but NHL Hockey in the US.



The primary issue with D-men for Vegas is not just that they have 11 but that only 1 is waivers exempt - so prior to the start of the season they will have to send 3-4 down the the minors and risk losing 3 for nothing! As for Brouwer - at 4.5 mil he is a tough pill to swallow but at 3.5 mil he is a very serviceable 3rd line RW vet that can step up if needed and adds strength and size to the line up - plus leadership.

So why doesn't Calgary keep him - where RW was a weakness we now have a bottle neck of prospects fighting for 2 remaining RW roster spots as Ferland and Frolik have the other 2 spots.

Like what you have done here... would have given 5 stars but (as with my teams where I trade JH) I don't think that management is smart enough to pull this trigger yet. A trade with Vegas is possible - not sure if that is it but possible - but the DET trade is reaching a bit...
