I like Ehlers as a target but this strips Vancouver of a lot of their depth making them worse even if they look flashier.

Nothing there of interest from a Jets perspective of giving up both Ehlers AND Samberg

Hoglander: top 10 in the league in 5v5 goals last season, signed extremely cheap this season (only 1 less total goal than Ehlers)
Podkolzin: former top 10 pick reclamation project
Soucy: better LHD than Samberg
Pettersson: LHD prospect who has looked very good since he was drafted, looks like he could be a #4 dman in the NHL
1st and 2nd: good draft picks

This trade is heavily lopsided in Winnipegs favour. I wouldn’t give a 1st + Hoglander for Ehlers and wouldn’t give Soucy for Samberg. Then you add Podz, D Petey, and a 2nd on top as well. Chevaldayoff would deserve to be fired if he turned this down

Hoglander: Way way worse than Ehlers it is not close.
Podkolzin: Would be great on the Manitoba Moose
Soucy: you're tripping Samberg is young, improving and already better.
Pettersson: gonna be stuck in the Moose for a long time behind Morrissey, Samberg and Heinola.
1st and 2nd not very important for a team trying to win now.

Conclusion:
The Jets got significantly worse after this trade. The Jets do not consider this trade or any of this framework, this is a whole lotta nothing and low quality assets.

There is reason to doubt Chevy if he takes this. This is a bad trade for Winnipeg.

Hoglander: young middle 6 winger showing top 6 upside and already scoring as many goals as Ehlers
Podkolzin: could be a decent bottom 6 option
Soucy: easily better than Samberg you’re tripping
Pettersson: becomes one of the Jets best defensive prospects. Passes Heinola easily and will be in the NHL in 1-2 years

Conclusion: this is a massive overpay for a pending UFA winger who disappears in the playoffs. If you think Ehlers returns this much or more than this I hope you’re prepared to be disappointed

Bro Heinola is in the NHL now where is Petterson gonna go? I spoke my peace on the other stuff but Soucy is not nearly as valuable as Samberg. Hoglander is not a player driver, Ehlers is the play driver. He scores more points, plays better defense and does it all in less minutes.

Heinola played a grand total of 0 NHL games this season. He’s not gonna be more than a bottom pair guy. He’s a reclamation project at this point, the same as Podkolzin. Pettersson isn’t NHL ready right now but will be in a year or two

Hoglander’s xGA/60 was quite a bit better than Ehlers this season. In the last 4 seasons Hoglander’s has been better twice and Ehlers has been better twice. They’re similar defensively, with Hoglander arguably better

Soucy had a better xGA/60 than Samberg while playing more minutes and against tougher competition, while also being a lot more physical. Neither are that good offensively. Soucy is the better player right now

Heinola made the team out of training camp and got injured. Podkolzin has been healthy for 2 seasons and didn't make the team. They are very different situations.

Lmao we must not be talking about the same Nils Hoglander. Point breakdown: Ehlers - Hoglander
2021-2022: PTS 55 - 18, GP 62 - 60
2022 - 2023: PTS 38 - 9, GP 45 - 25
2023 - 2024: PTS 61 - 32, GP 82 - 80

Your evaluation of Ehlers vs Hoglander isn't remotely close.

This past season, Samberg doubled Soucy in games played, and tripled him in points, despite averaging 100 less seconds per game. Soucy was slightly better defensively and gets credit for playing more minutes and harder matchups. I give the edge to Soucy, but it's close. Where Samberg is more valuable is that he is 25 while Soucy is 29. Samberg still has room to grow and 4 more years to age than Soucy.

Tbh you completely missed the mark on every player comparison.

Samberg isn't available and the Jets aren't moving Ehlers for a quantity package of lesser pieces.
