Thats a bit greedy, don't you think? They are getting cap space and it's not like Detroit isn't getting anything out of the trade. Trouba vastly improve Detroit's D.

Plus Trouba at $5.5M is about the same we'd have to give up to sign a UFA dman like Roy.

Nah, they can buyout holl for cheap if they want. We are taking a guy the Rangers wants off their team at any cost and made it publicly known. Trouba will probably only waive for det, just like cat, rags in a pickle and gonna have to take back extra crap. If they say no, they can keep the 8M cap hit and we move on to zadorov for 4.5

That’s the point. Why pay anything for Trouba if Roy, who is a better player, can be had for the same AAV? Picks need to be coming back to Detroit to take Trouba at 5.5 or Holl needs to be going back.

Personally I'd take Trouba over Roy. But will LA resign him now that they have more cap space.

That would change the equation for Detroit. But, as of now, I see no reason to look at Trouba as anything but a cap dump. There are better options (to me at least) that don’t require anything other than a signed contract.

But a few UFA RHDs have resigned and if Roy stays in LA getting an RHD might be tougher than you think. But with NYR being a serious contender they are more likely to get one of the available RHDs. Giving them much needed cap space and Detroit upgrades it's D.
