I don't hate the MTL trade, but I'd do Barron instead of Kovacevic.

It would seem to be more on par for a one to one trade. Barron is a bit less than half in NHL games, and has half his points total. They both are in development phases and their potential is good but Barron is 2 yrs younger and Defensemen tend to take an extra year or two to fully mature in terms of play. Both late 1st round picks and both RFAs.

Kovacevic is more advanced in his role inside a team, he goes well in MTL on the second or third pairing, so if he goes for Veleno I think Detroit would need to add a 3rd round pick. I don't hate Veleno, but two full years and he barely cracked 28 pts last year and is consistently in the minuses and at 24yr old is still having lots of issues in his play.

I don't hate the trade, just more bias in terms of who should be dealt to Detroit for him.

That Trouba trade is unrealistic, he has a NMC until 7/1 so the 2024 1st isn't getting traded, and Drury also doesn't like trade picks too far in advance, especially now when he's already traded away so many future picks. Rangers can retain 2m or take back Holl/Petry/Maatta if that works.

Not only this, it's already been reported they aren't looking to attach assets to get rid of him. I believe slight retention is the best Drury will do, and if he cannot unload him he seems to be fine keeping him.

Well it’s not attaching an asset really. Still keeping a pick just dropping 17 spots

If you guys are that desperate to get rid of him I’d send holl your way rather than switch draft spots ... if it was that easy it be done by now I’m sure. I’m sure saving 8 million off the cap is more valuable than adding a holl

Personally would be interested in kovacevic more as we need to get better defensively on the back end and he’d be a ufa after a year anyways and veleno wouldn’t. Wouldn’t attach a 3rd and would just test free agency for a cheap 3rd pairing dman

Like I said, Trouba has a NMC until 7/1, until then it's not possible to trade him. You know what a NMC is right?

Then in my opinion, the trade wouldn't happen. You mention a cheap 3rd pairing defenseman. Kovacevic isn't that, he's better than it seems because he was on a difficult team to play on. Defensively he's better than most of our guys at this stage. To get him, you'd have to attach more like that 3rd pick.

Veleno isn't a one to one for him since he has not shown enough growth in his play. Barron is more likely since he'll be a project for under a million for 2 to 3 years. If they can get his defense up in Detroit, he's going to be a top 4. If not, he'll stay a bottom 2 but play on the powerplays.

Yes lol misread that it kicked in July 1st . I’m sure he’d waive it to go back to his hometown but what do I know ... anyways can’t imagine too many teams capable of taking on his 8 mill hit

I think this comes down to the Rangers not knowing if they can pull off a trade with him yet. He's their captain, if they burn that bridge with him and end up not being able to trade him, that could end badly. What if they ask him, he says no, and then puts Detroit on his 15 team no trade list (he has a M-NTC instead of a NMC after 7/1), to kill the possibility of a trade? There's no reason not to play it safe here.

Cheap as in $ . He’s making less than 800k. Ya I got zero interest in Barron. With pelikka in the pipeline he’ll never be a top 4 guy or get ppl time .. ya wouldn’t work out between us then

I’m sure they’ve had talks with gm’s already and know take him on or not and I’m sure Trouba already knows he’s being shopped. Can’t keep anything a secret anymore and judging by everything I seen online and how some fans are desperate to get rid of him and rumours of Kane wanting to go back to ny I I think the writing is on the wall and his days are numbered

Rumors are just rumors at the end of the day. Yes he's had talks but at the same time there's a big question of feasibility to trade him, and with only 2 years left on his contract it's still a very real possibility he finishes his contract still wearing blue. We can all speculate how a trade with him would look like but it's very hard to know what the market for him actually is. We've already seen Goodrow be taken for free meanwhile Walman who's an actually good hockey player unlike Goodrow had to have a 2nd attached to him to be dumped. I honestly don't know what to expect when it comes to Trouba.
