I’m going to suggest you do not understand the rebuild path Davidson has the organization on. All of those free agent signings are a bad idea. There are plenty of prospects in the pipeline & blocking their paths with all of the guys you signed is counterproductive to the long run the team wants to be on.

And trading for Mikheyev accomplishes this in real life

well the thinking is you leet them season in the AHL and then once TDL rolls around and a couple of players are traded for picks then the prospects can get 20ish games of NHL experience to set them up for next season where they would be playing full time.

Also as of now I don't see anyone that is ready for full time NHL duties besides the guys I already have in the lineup, Maybe some guys you'd want as a call up but no full time guys imo.

I would much rather see an open competition through training cap & preseason with Philips, Roos & Del Mastro on the Left side, Crevier, Kaiser & Allan ( yes both off their regular side) on the right side than brining in any of the free agent D-Men listed above . At forward at the minimum Dach should get a look assuming he can stay healthy long enough.

So, the value of Reilly Smith and picks is future considerations, but then Buffalo pays 2 picks to get him from Chicago?

I’m not sure if you were using that as a statement or a question. Regardless, in good conscience I could not say it does. However, using one trade to justify more would not be accurate, it would just compound the issue.

If Chicago is taking Tavares, they aren't sending anything back. $11m in cap space is what Toronto gets out of the deal.

Tavares isn't waiving for Chicago anyway.

Mikheyev and Lafferty are two guys. Even after that trade, and assuming that Lafferty signs and each of Nazar, Slaggert, and Reichel start the season in the NHL (and I think they should), the Hawks only have 12 forwards. That’s a reasonable number. They’ll add maybe one more to a big contract and likely another who can spend time scratched or in Rockford. They won’t sign three free agent forwards, and definitely won’t sign three defenseman.

I don’t really think any of Roos, Phillips, or Crevier have shown anything to indicate they should be in the Hawks’ long term plans. I’d be surprised if the Hawks resigned all three of them— 1-2 as 7th defenders or Rockford players is my guess.

The Hawks resigned Rachel for 2 years, $1.2 million per year. He really struggled last year, but it doesn’t make much sense to start him out in Rockford this year. The Hawks also signed Landon Slaggert after his season at Notre Dame ended last year. He only projects as a bottom six guy, but he looked like a legitimate NHL player in his small sample size last year— not sure why he wouldn’t be starting in Chicago too.

Roos is likely gone. Phillips I could see as Rockford depth/trade throw in. Crevier looked alright when he was called up but he definitely needs more time in Rockford. He's an option as a 6/7 if he develops more.

But you're right, its likely none of them are in the Hawks long term plans.

Oh look a, your players have no value, but when they come to CHI they instantly have value and we flip them trade!

    I love blatant homerism
