Probably not. The Caps are focusing on getting younger for their post-ovi era. The only way the do something here is if the first isn't involved. An example would be TvR, Dowd and a second next year or something along that line.

Chychrun is getting a 1st round draft pick apart of his deal, unless it’s a hockey trade. Steve Staios said that himself. Also I agree that capitals should be trying to get younger but why have they declare interest in Chychrun?

He is just entering his prime so I can understand the draw. But the only way I see this happening at all with our first is if there are no targets we want at 17

Staios just said a 1st and a 2nd or 1st and elite prospect, to paraphrase. Don't believe he said anything about it needing to be a 1st this year. On top of this Ottawa is likely going to need to forfeit a 1st next year or in '26.

All that to say, maybe you guys keep 17 and send a 1st for next year instead?

The only issue i have there is we are not sure how next season will go for us. Could be slightly better or it could be far worse. With the uncertainties I think it would be foolish for the Caps to potentially burn their future with Ovi getting toward retirement.
