I don't see why McDavid would want to leave the Oilers for a Leafs team that has no Marner or Matthews. I'm sure he would think that, he wouldn't think that he and Nylander would be able to get what he and Draisaitl couldn't. Playing with Matthew alone or Matthews and Nylander or Marner and Nylander might be intriguing for him if he likes the idea of playing in Toronto as a city but him and Nylander? Probably not. McDavid will be able to go to ANY team that he wants, so chances are he would go to a team like Chicago, especially if Bedard lives up to the hype or in your scenario, maybe he joins Matthews in his new team instead of a Matthews-less and Marner-less Leafs team.


If the Leafs traded Marner for Doughty, why would they be so desperate to pay that price for Pulock? Better off signing a UFA RD and drafting as the Leafs desperately need to refill the prospect pool especially on defense.

Two later picks from playoff teams aren’t worth much to us. A RHD who is a sure thing to play big minutes and is the type of Dman you want in a playoff series is worth a lot.

Doesn't have to be as good as Pulock, or why else trade for Doughty? Maybe Marner wouldn't allow himself to be traded to the Isles, but might as well trade Marner to the Isles for Pulock+, probably would mean taking back Pageau or maybe a 3-way trade could be orchestrated. Or do the Pulock trade, but have Marner traded elsewhere for something else, instead of an 11M Dman if he's not going to be relied upon.
