Coming from a NSH fan, this is a HUGE over-evaluation of what we could get for Saros. I do think something like this could happen if the rumors are true regarding Saros's contract extension. That said, this is a huge ask.

More realistically, something else is going back to CAR. What I have in my head is something like

To CAR
Saros + Nyquist + Tomasino + TBL 2025 1st

To NSH
Necas (extended) + Andersen + Nadeau + CAR 2024 1st

In the trade, CAR is getting the best player in the group in Saros, but in exchange, NSH is getting a true top-line RW in Necas, who can score has proven he can do it when allowed to focus on offense first as well as the better prospect in the trade. Necas is also young enough that he can fit into NSH's timeline with Askarov and Andersen provides a stop-gap to keep NSH somewhat competitive before Askarov fully takes over. NSH also sends Nyquist who is older, but immediately can slip into CAR middle 6 and be a point producer on an insanely good contract.

To equalize any value lost between the teams, NSH swaps 1st round picks with CAR so NSH gets CAR 1st this year while CAR gets TBL's 1st next year, which will also likely be higher than the 1st they have this year. NSH gets the more immediate, but likely lower pick, while CAR gets the likely higher pick, but has to wait another year for it.

Canes aren’t giving up Nadeau, they need his cheap contract to help navigate the cap crunch. Necas for Saros without the extra stuff is fair in value, even though the canes would be idiotic to do it

gawd awful trade proposal then hates on canes fans for telling that. this is new level stuff.

Its like when Nashville fans berated canes fans for telling them that RoJo had no trade value before the 23 trade deadline. It was great.

I think that this is a decent proposal when looking at it without considering the cap situation and the fact that Carolina needs Nadeau's cheap cap hit to help manage the cap without hemorrhaging talent

Canes fans might be the only fan base that overvalues their players/prospects more than the Canadian fanbases.

You're not wrong, but you're expecting too much for Saros here.

That's fair, but its not going to stop Trotz from asking.

Additionally, Saros for Necas straight across is not fair value. Saros throughout his career has put up numbers similar to Helleybuck (even counting his down year this year). The only reason he doesn't get more attention is because he is in NSH, who hasn't really had a competitive shot since before Rinne retired. Necas had a breakout year last year, but with the regression in his production this year, and his ice time still being consistent with top 6 minutes, someone who averages around 50-55 points a season is not worth Saros.

Saros would cost CAR Necas + Andersen at a minimum.

The only other player NSH would consider moving as part of a deal like this might be Evangelista, but it would take a considerable prospect in order to get Trotz to be willing to part with him. I'm not saying Trotz would pay fair value for someone like a Nadeau or a Morrow, but the team has to get better in the long term if NSH is going to part with current top pieces.

Understandable. The only other piece NSH would really be interested in would potentially be Morrow, since NSH's RD pipeline is looking really slim, but from what I understand, CAR is in a similar situation.

This is too much for a year of Saros, way too much. I know you’ll say this obviously includes an extension, but that isn’t pointed out in the deal above and it happens very frequently that guys are traded a year or less away without an extension, unless it’s literally negotiated and agreed to before trade is completed it’s irrelevant.

I also don’t think canes are signing Saros to a long term 8m deal so the extension assumption doesn’t hold much water imo if you do want to say it’s included.

then we don't trade him. I have been beating that drum all offseason, this post was based on rumors theres a Saros and Necas trade brewing.

I know goalies dont get great returns but Trotz is specifically asking for an elite prospect and 2 1sts, and my point here is that Carolina could meet the bare minimum requirements for that.

I disagree with pretty much any post here saying its too much for Saros though. Saros is a true #1 elite workhorse goalie in his prime. Necas is a bit of a project. Nadeau has a 50/50 shot (at best) of becoming a top 6 forward. Your first rounder this year has about a 20% chance of becoming a top6 or top4 player.

I know goalies almost never get hauls like this which is exactly why I don't want to trade him. But if there is true smoke to this trade rumor I'm telling you this is where Trotz starts the discussion.

Which is totally fine but if that’s the case it should be and likely is where the discussion ends.

in all of these posts, not a single person mentions the fact that Nadeau isnt getting traded anywhere unless its in a package for an elite SCORER....not a damn goalie.
