Seems like a pretty steep price for Necas. Coghlan is useless in the NHL and I would imagine the Canes would have to add better/more picks especially for retention

Nothing fills a need for the Jets and they aren't retaining and throwing in McGroarty for that little.

Necas is a Ehlers replacement and Coghlan and a third is the price for a guy who's refusing to sign... might be a little light on our side considering retention

I'm guessing it goes something like
Necas for Ehlers
Coghlan+3rd for McGroarty

Coghlan is a 7/8 D. Winnipeg doesn't need more bottom pairing or lower defenseman.

Necas will be a more expensive lateral move for Winnipeg. He's an RFA, looking for a large raise and he has arb rights. He's not what Winnipeg would look for. Let somone else overpay him.

Roughly but Necas to me should have more value than Ehlers due to contract status, age, and future career trajectory. With McGroarty, the Jets are in a tough spot as it's now come out publicly that there's some displeasure on the player's end, he could theoretically just walk for nothing in two years and when comparing to the Gauthier trade situation, he was a 5th overall pick who's displeasure was kept quiet around the league during the process, preserving some of his trade value. In return Philly got a young but injury prone Dman who's ceiling is a #3/4 and a 2nd. Maybe you could bump the 3rd in my proposal up to the Canes 2nd in '24 but value is there especially if Necas carries more weight than 1 year of Ehlers.
