no idea what it would take to get Mcnabb, just thinking about cheaper LD that could play with Morrow for a year or two and Vegas has like 6 LD

I don’t hate the idea of McNabb, like the Stephenson signing, if we couldn’t get him could also get Karlsson from Vegas. Jarvis probably needs slightly more on a long term deal, the term for Martinook and Brossoit is way too long though.

It's funny how the trolls take it as saying every player is "untouchable" if you ask for something that fills a need as opposed to pieces they want to get rid of that do nothing for the Jets.

Don’t get the point of the ehlers Necas swap. If canes end up letting Guentzel walk than it’s very unlikely they keep Ehlers beyond next year.

jets have like 6 players signed through 2025. they might lose toffoli, monahan and ehlers... they could lock in a star power 25 year old for 7 years at like 7 mil, and a solid backup goalie in case Helly goes down... is that enough incentive? what else could you want

The point is that necas wants out of our system and ehlers could thrive in our system. Guentzel is gone, he wants that 8.5-9mil and canes aren't paying that when we could trade necas for ehlers or Buch at 3 mil less next year. Canes get a ton of cap space in 2025, and we could pay ehlers just fine when that comes around.

They'd probably look for a player that fills a need first, like a top 4 RHD or 2C with term or team control. Making a lateral move for a player with arb rights that is looking for a large raise, isn't something that Jets management usually targets.

Not to mention that Winnipeg would also need some pretty hefty compensation for taking Andersen as a cap dump in the above scenario, which isn't offered.

Let someone else overpay Necas.

I could be wrong but it looks like the Jets need a star power forward to replace the ones they might lose this year, and could use a backup goalie... which is the trade I suggested... If you need defensemen, fine, we'll throw in signing rights for Pesce or Skjei, there ya go

Ok ok, if you think andersen is a cap dump, and youd rather have a RHD then necas, then I'm not talking to a real human. Good luck lol

Lol. Obviously Andersen is a cap dump to Winnipeg.
Huge salary for a bad, constantly injured backup. Nice deflection when you have no counterpoints to rational issues.

Jets need a top 4 RHD or 2C and Lambert is coming up to fill a hole and Mcgroarty could be on the team by the spring, it's not the worst case scenario if there's not a better deal to be made, but id rather even buffalos first or another top 10 pick before Necas, and they're certainly not taking Anderson back

Andersen had a .940 save percentage in like 15 games, he is far from a cap dump. In this scenario I imagine there being another team who pays assets for Andersen, that is what's in it for WPG.

However, The Jets have so many top 6 star/borderline star forwards they'll need to pay very soon and Necas takes away that future cap space, and he's a downgrade on the 2nd line for next season and gives the Jets less cap space than keeping Ehlers.

I can't say what a return for Ehlers would be because my head is dug in the sand. I need them to keep Ehlers, let him play under Scott Arniel and hope he's convinced to stay, because that is the best team the Jets can have this upcoming season where they'll have many great players for cheap.

You didn’t answer the main question. If the canes aren’t willing to pay Guentzel 8x9 or whatever it takes, they’re not going to pay Ehlers 8x8 next year. Same age, not as good of a player. If canes aren’t paying Guentzel on a max deal they won’t do the same for Ehlers.

They can make it work with Guentzel this year just like they could with Ehlers next year from a cap perspective. Doesn’t mean they will based on how they operate. If you’re looking for a Necas trade it shouldn’t be centered around a 30 year old player with a year left who will likely extend elsewhere.

Nope. Andersen is definitely a cap dump to Winnipeg. His save % doesn't matter at all. There's is no chance that Winnipeg considers a $3 4 mil, constantly injured backup a positive asset. He's simply a waste of cap space, so the Jets aren't taking him for free.

My man I really don't know what to tell you if this doesn't make sense. We are cap limited this year because we can't just trade away all our bad contracts. Orlov, kuzy, burns are eating up like 18mil in cap space. Morrow and nikishin will be free money in 2026. Signing guentzel to 9mil would be tossing this year. That 3mil makes a huge difference in depth. I imagine the trade would only happen with the agreement of an extension.

Let me put it another way since you’re having trouble understanding.

The canes can fit in guentzel at 8x8.5-9.25 this year. It’s not an if, it’s they can if they choose to go away from their strategy of handing out max term deals to 30 years olds. If Guentzel doesn’t extend here it’s not bc they can’t afford the extension due to cap constraints this year, it’s bc they aren’t willing to pay that much to a 30 year old on a max term deal.

Ehlers is a worse player than Guentzel. He’s a good player, but he’s not on Guentzel level. He’ll also be 30+ when his extension kicks in next summer. If the canes aren’t willing to break their rule for Guentzel, they certainly won’t for a lesser player. Which means Ehlers is going to want to go to UFA bc another team is going to give him a max term deal that the canes wouldn’t.

Your main point is that the canes can’t find the extra 2.5-3m for this year to keep Guentzel versus Ehlers while
Remaining competitive which just seems silly. A KK buyout alone literally solves that. There’s a myriad of creative solutions to make guentzel at his cap hit work over somebody like Ehlers without really impacting the depth of the team, and that’s not even taking into account Guentzel making the top end of the team better than Ehlers.

There is no "rule". I don't even know where you are getting that. We probably already sent Guentzel an offer for 8x8 and he said wanted to test the market. He is GONE and it has nothing to do with a "rule". There's just an upper limit of how much you can lean on one guy and he probably wants to live somewhere nice. I'm not saying its impossible, it just makes a big difference. you can run this roster without having to buyout anyone, and you still have the flexibility of buying out KK if you want and go grab another good player for 5-6mil. Or trade kuzy or Orlov with retention and do the same thing. Keep in mind this roster has no tuevo, skjei, pesce, noesen, a cheap LD, and some savings from the goalie change... It's hard to find another 3 mil on top of all that unless you want to rip up the whole thing and start over.

What “rule” are you talking about? I just pointed out how this FO has operated since Dundon bought the team. It’s not a rule but it is a trend. My point was it’s unlikely they sign a lesser player who is the same age to a long term contract, not that difficult of a concept.

In terms of roster flexibility - buy out or trade KK and bridge Jarvis. That alone saves you 6-7m. That’s a super straight forward solution and I’m sure a creative FO that CAR has shown to be over the years has plenty of other options if they wanted to explore it.
