I'd much rather have the cheaper Strome, who can play C in a pinch, than the more expensive Mangiapane. But maybe it's better to have that slot opening up next summer . . .

Think I disagree here. Strome isn't worth 5M now and that contract is only getting uglier. He's a major issue defensively and there doesn't appear to be an obvious spot in the top-six for him next year. Mangiapane has basically matched Strome's offensive production the last two seasons and he's much better by possession/expected goal stats. Not to mention AM's contract is up at the end of the year, so you can either flip him or just take the cap space for when you have McTavish, Vatrano and Dostal due extensions. Contracts being equal, maybe go Strome but I'd go for the future flexibility here.
