need to sign two more players with no cap space.

I think you're underestimating how scared teams will be of that norris contract.

I can't see SEA taking that deal. Norris is too big of a risk to spend that much on acquiring him, even with Chyrchrun involved.

Not saying Norris couldn't work out really well for SEA, but GMRF isn't known for his risk-taking. With Norris' injury history and his cap hit in addition to the logjam that would create a center (Berniers, Norris, Gourde, Wright, and McCann can be thrown in too) someone would either need to be traded or have to move to the wing in order just to have all of them play in the top 9.

It is a deal that if it works out for SEA it pays off big, but it could also blow up in their face in spectacular fashion

I mean Burakovsky isn’t a great contract either for what he provided last year

since always. teams carry 23 players for the most part. cmon, you've been around long enough to know they aren't rolling around with one healthy scratch. at the very least its an extra forward and defensemen.

he's produced more than norris has over the last two seasons....and his contract is 3x5.5 not 6x7.95

I don't disagree with you on that, injuries slowed him down this season, and was never able to string together anything until late in the season. That said, he showed more of his capability with Sweden at the world cup (11 points in 10 games). It makes more optimistic to see what he can do during camp and how he is at the beginning of the season.

Worst case scenario is Burakovsky's contract is up in 3 years as opposed to 6 and is still 2.5M cheaper per year than Norris.

If I was GMRF, I probably take the chance on Norris considering I'm getting Chychrun back to replace Oleksiak and I know I'm likely drafting an RD like Parekh or Dickinson in the draft. With SEA's depth at wing and center it affords SEA the opportunity to try Norris both on the wing and at center and see where he works because it's obvious he has the talent to be a top 6 forward. SEA could have a really dangerous future top 6 in 2 years that looks like:

McCann - Berniers - Firkus
Tolvanen - Norris - Wright

All while having Dunn, Chychrun, and Parekh/Dickinson on the D-core. It would be the team I would personally want to build. Just with general risk-averse GMRF, I just don't see it happening, despite the fact that I would personally take that risk.

To be fair toward the Norris comparison, you can't really count 22-23, because he only played in 8 games. That has its own issues, but the sample size is bad for comparison. Over the last 2 seasons where they each played 49 games each, Norris does beat Burakovsky, and it isn't really close Burakovsky - 55 points, Norris - 85, granted Norris also played in 18 more games over that span.

yaaaa the injuries are kind of concerned when you're buying a player who has six years left on a monster deal, can't seem to stay healthy, and has a career high of 55 points...which is 20 points higher than his next best season. the contract is a risk that no one is taking on.

That is a completely valid point, and I won't disagree with you on Norris being overpaid, because he is. Everything surrounding Norris is just a big if leaving his value really up in the air. Someone might take a chance on him for cheap because the potential is there. But that's all it is. I think he could be successful, but he would have to be sheltered.

ehhhh i don't think so. i think the best case scenario is he's worth his contract, and that's a very optimistic standpoint. if that's the ceiling, no one is paying for him. senators will have to retain.

Norris still was on pace for 50pts while not being his regular self. I think unless his shoulder is literally about to fall off he’s still good for 50-60pts easy . It was all in his head this year and his 200ft game fell off , he was one of the best 2 years ago

Its for this reason that I would take the risk on him. Even if he only plays 55-60 games a years, being around that .6-.7ppg pace is still really strong. Ideally, you want that all season, but even if you get it for 3/4's of the season and then get it back during playoffs, to me that is worth it.
