Nurse and Campbell

Description
The idea here is to leverage the Sharks ample cap space while they rebuild, eating most of the Campbell contract buyout and taking on Nurse to bolster a d corps badly in need of a make over.

This trade provides Edmonton with $51M in cap relief over the next 6 seasons, at roughly $11M in added flexibility for the next three seasons and about $6M over the following three. This trade would result in an average of $3.2M in dead cap on Edmonton’s cap sheet for 6 seasons, and lock up two of their retention slots during that span. A mildly painful price for mulligans on two difficult contracts.

Flame away!

First off good god no!
No point in retention right now more focus is on the return and both those guys would cost Edmonton 2 of their best prospects 2 1sts and 2 3rds for Future Considerations.
Anything less and it’s just not worth the sacrifice for the sharks, and not sure it’s worth it to the Oilers to give up that much.

I think you’re being extremely uncharitable to Nurse. With the retention down to $6.5M his contract is much closer to what he brings. It would be during his peak years, and would add a solid #2/3 D to the defensive unit and help solidify a group that needs an overhaul. There is still work to be done on the right side, but this is a positive move.

Also there’s no way Edmonton could even pay the cost of what it would take to move on from both players without some retention.

Personally, I view this as a win for both franchises. Edmonton gets a great deal more cap flexibility and the Sharks add a long term piece to the blue line and two high quality draft assets.

The problem is we are now burdened with players your team feels can’t help them win instead of more desirable pieces we can get in FA or through trades.
Retention makes them more palatable I agree but at the expense of the true value we could get taking them on.
I don’t hate Nurse but there are better options for that price and the return with retention just isn’t desirable.

Bro. I’m a Sharks fan. Love him, or hate him, Nurse is what a mildly optimistic projection of what Mukhamadullin might be. A #2/3 D who is one piece of a contenders top 4. If Mukh hits this would give us two of those pieces while we look for help on the right side and hunt for a true #1D

Yeah, if Muk becomes what nurse was, I’m stoked but I don’t like the player. Nurse has been the last two years and I don’t want to be burdened with him for another six years. Think there’s better options out there for the price that we’re giving up here.
