I’m not sure Boston would prefer Chychrun to draft picks. Ultimately, my guess is they will want to bring in a hired gun forward instead of a D. Maybe a veteran tied to a cheaper contract

I think they take Chychrun cause they need a LD baddely they dont play Lohrei 20min a night with Stallion he need to grow and with Chychrun their top 4 is one of the best in the league and Chychrun could drive the PP1 cause no one cant in their D corp

The Chychrun timeline doesn't workout with Lohrei in the organization. Sure it might not be next year or two years from now, but Lohrei will be a 1LD on this team in the future. I don't really see a need for Chych in the long term, would rather use Ullmark's trade value for a 1st rnd pick.

Im curious about the same thing, I'm not a fan of lohrei on the bottom pair. I understand the appeal of getting chychrun but the timeline doesnt make sense with lohrei turning 24 next january. It almost feels like if Boston gets chychrun they'd being quietly telling lohrei hes on the way out. He'd get wasted being on the third pair and they'd likely use chychrun over him on one of the powerplays. I have been struggling to find a reason why Boston would need chychrun and it's laid out pretty well by the other people here but I still dont fully understand how the timeline would work. Also wheres poitras on the centre depth.

I think for how young Poitras is, him being the 3C during his ELC is probably best for his development. I'm fine if BOS gets E. Lindholm as the 1C for example, Coyle is then the 2C and Zacha moves to LW.

In the longterm, Poitras eventually passes Coyle on the depth chart given Coyle's age, so it works out.

If somehow Draisaitl makes it to free agency next year, have to move Coyle.

I’m very open to a Jacob Chychrun for Ullmark deal. It does probably force a Lysell or Merkulov into a top 9 role, but it makes your defense incredible. It’s not how I would build the roster, but the mix of offense and defense is very appealing.
