NJD is not giving up the 2 most valuable pieces in the trade for quantity we don't need.

Now if you want to offer Montembault and Guhle, that's a different discussion

the caps still can make the playoffs if they make the right moves, but this wouldn't be it. This trade would probably better directed at a team who is already in a rebuild that would take on the contract

I feel like the caps chances are done tbh and even if they make it they will be out in the first round so getting picks would be a good move for them plus if they do plan on trying to make the playoffs they could take a chance on anderson he has been so bad in montreal only because he doesnt fit the system at all but he might work better in the caps system

Yeah no to that. Not that it’s bad value wise I just wouldn’t do it as the Habs. But I can why NJ wouldn’t do the posted trade above

Understandable.

Guhle and Montembault are studs that MTL should keep imo.

Which is why they'd be worth pieces like Holtz and 10th overall.

Yeah obviously as Montreal id do that trade. But if I’m NJ I don’t even entertain it. Matheson is a good player but like you said, just doesn’t really fit a need for NJ, so why would they give up Holtz AND the 10th for a player they don’t need

Thats not a "to begin with " conversation , thats basically the deal itself.
Guhle went 9 spots before Holtz and made the NHL as a Regular who's top 3 in minutes in the top 4 since his rookie season 2 years ago
Holtz went ahead of him and is a Winger who develops usually first of all drafted positions and has 4 less games and 6 less points then Guhle
Its a PRETTY BIG GAP between Holtz and Guhle as D like Guhle arent just given away by anyone

Granted the 10th OA is worth more then Mesar, 2nd and a 3rd but more then the gap between Holtz and Guhle
But really i'd say by about as much as MTL's 26th OA pick is from NJD 10th OA

If it was me

Holtz
10th OA in 2024

for
Guhle
26th OA in 2024
57th OA in 2024
78th OA pick in 2024

NJD gets the better player
MTL gets the better pick by giving up 3 for 1 to balance things.
Top pair D are Always worth more then Wingers even when they produce more offensively then a Defensman you're trading for.
The gap between players and picks is about proportionate.

MTL sells a player that the GM said he wont is my only concern.
But hypothetically if this trade for Holtz with a 10th OA for Guhle were to happen
Thats the best i could see us offering as we could put Guhle on RW and still get better production then Holtz will in NJD
No offense to Holtz either its just we put Guhle on 1st 2nd or 3rd Pair LD or RD and he doesnt change his play unlike all our other D.
I have no doubt he could play Wing if he wanted to at the same level or higher then Holtz has shown

That is a 100% reasonable trade.

Is Mesar more valuable than the 1st in your eyes? because I would much rather have pick 26 than Mesar

Would you swap out 26th, 57th,75th for Montembault instead.

Swap Nemec and Reinbacher in the deal and i'd give up Guhle and Montembault
Having Lane Hutson-Simon Nemec hook up with Caufield , Suzuki and Slafkovsky on PP? I'm Sold.
We'd have 2 top 10 draft picks this year to get some more quality depth

We'd just have to go hard as Markstrom, Ullmark, Demko or someone like that.
I want Markstom ever since i seen this video of him for like a decade ago playing with goalie action figures
"No Marty , you're the better Goalie " in one voice supposed to be Price "No Carey your the best" in another Voice supposed to be Brodeur
"No Jacob you're the better Goalie , You're the better Goalie , You're the better Goalie " in his own voice kinda chant/singing it hahahaha

So clearly you can see why im ok with trading Monty , i am biased for Markstrom without apology hahaahaha

Nemec for Reinbacher is a very big no from NJD.
